Waterwells Academy: Consultation

Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 by Clive

waterwells academyWATERWELLS PRIMARY ACADEMY CONSULTS ON ADDITIONAL PROVISION FOR 3-YEAR-OLDS.

Kingsway’s local community are being asked to share their views on Waterwells Primary Academy’s proposals to open a 3-11 primary school this September. The school is consulting again following Ministerial approval of the addition of a 52 place pre-school for three-year-olds in response to the increasing need for pre-school provision in the local area.
This follows the initial consultation which started in December last year when the school’s sponsor – The Robinswood Academy Trust – shared their original plans with local people for a 4-11 primary school.
Martin Latham, Head of Robinswood Primary School and Executive Head of Waterwells Primary Academy, said: “This formal consultation builds on the links that we have established with the local community. I very much hope that everyone will take the time to get involved and share their views with us.”
Cllr Jackie Hall, county councillor for Quedgeley and Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “The new primary school will open next September and will be vital to help meet increasing demand for school places in this growing estate. I would encourage local people to feedback their views in the consultation.”
Prospective parents and other stakeholders in the local community can have their say by completing an online questionnaire on the school’s website here emailing the school at info@waterwellsprimaryacademy.org.uk or leaving a message on the message line at 0845 548 0411. The consultation will end on Tuesday 7th May 2013.
Waterwells Primary Academy is a new primary school which will open in Naas Lane on the Kingsway development in Quedgeley in September 2013. The school is being built to serve this growing community, and will open with 15 pupils predicted in each year group from Reception to Year 6. The intake will increase as the admission numbers grow each year, and the school will reach its capacity of 420 pupils, with two classes of 30 pupils per year group, by 2016. In addition, a 52 place pre-school for three-year-olds is planned, along with a nursery providing 16 places for two-year-olds.
The school will offer a broad and balanced curriculum with a specific focus on literacy and numeracy, and will aim for all pupils to achieve confidence through high quality educational experiences rich in core learning including ICT. Every pupil at the school will be encouraged to achieve their maximum potential within a happy, nurturing environment. Community engagement will be at the core of the school’s ethos, which will benefit the pupils of the new school and the residents of the Kingsway area.
The consultation is running alongside other key activities including an open day which will take place between 9.30-11.00am on Friday 19th April at Robinswood Primary School, Underhill Road, Gloucester GL4 6HE. Families of all prospective pupils are welcome to attend the event to find out more about the school and apply for a place before the 26th April closing date. New Kingsway School – Waterwells Primary Academy

Monday, January 14th, 2013 by Hank

Hello All,

Was anyone else aware of the progress that has been made on the second Kingsway School?

I stumbled across a website that shows quite a bit has happened on this recently including a new name, Waterwells Primary Academy, and also some drop-in sessions that have already taken place.

I’d heard nothing about this but apparently they have had leaflet drops and advertised locally. They are currently in a consultation period and are welcoming peoples comments until the end of this month. As a parent to two under 3′s I am very interested to know what is happening with this school.

Thanks,
Paul

Schools in Kingsway

Friday, November 16th, 2012 by Paula Needham

Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for the lovely words posted about Kingsway Primary School! As the Headteacher of the school I am delighted that many of you speak so warmly about us and would like to offer some help for those of you new to this area and a bit confused by what we offer:
Kingsway Primary School works together with your local cluster schools (Beech Green, Meadowside, Hardwicke, Longney, Haresfield, Field Court Infants, Field Court Juniors and Severn Vale) under a working partnership called Quedgeley Learning Community (QLC). The second Kingsway Primary School has been invited to join this partnership also. Together we have pledged to ensure ALL schools in the area are the best they can be and that ALL pupils get the opportunities they deserve. We have pledged to not compete against each other to the detriment of any school and that by offering a complementary range of activities across the network, we offer strength in numbers. Indeed we share opportunities so if I put on an event, I invite other pupils from across the cluster to attend and so do the rest of the schools. For example this term we have a Gifted and Talented Art Workshop run by Severn Vale’s Art department, an Arts Festival during the summer and previously undertook a large scale Olympics for over 400 pupils from all the schools.
There are no schools in your local cluster who Ofsted does not rate and none of us are in Special Measures or Requires Improvement – quite a feat if you look around elsewhere. Indeed, the majority of us our rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’.
Under the new Ofsted framework we get only 12 hours notice of inspection. So when we were Ofsteded on 10th and 11th October 2012, we were rang at 12.15pm for an inspection that started at 8am the next day. Gone are the days of being able to ‘perform’ on one day and be less than perfect the rest of the time! In our inspection, evidence of achievement was traced back to 2010 and was extremely rigorous. We achieved ‘good with outstanding features’ in ALL areas and are so proud of achieving this in only FOUR years.
I count myself fortunate to be the Headteacher of such a vibrant successful school and I would urge any prospective parent to make a tour to any school to have a look – you won’t be disappointed in any of us. We are all different but we are all something I hope residents will continue to be proud of for many years to come.
Good schools usually increase house prices, attract residents seeking a successful community and therefore stabilise the area enormously. I think we should be a very proud community because our success is your success too.

With every best wish,

Mrs Needham
