Kingsway Food Co-op

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 by Barry Kirby

Hi All,

My wife, Amanda, has set up a Food Co-op for Kingsway families. The idea is that we can put in bulk orders with (mostly) local food producers, who then deliver to our place and then we distribute to you (or you come and pick it up).

We currently source from Over Farm (Veg’ etc), Cullimore Organics (Meat) and Essentials (Dry/Tinned Food etc).

There are already a few families involved and anyone is welcome to join in.

If you are interested in placing an order, or just knowing more about it, feel free to get in touch with Amanda by email – schoolsoutfornow@gmail.com or search on Facebook for “Kingsway Food Co-op”

Cheers,
Barry

Scouting is Coming to Kingsway

Tuesday, June 4th, 2013 by Julie Preston

My name is Julie Preston and I am trying to get Beavers, Cubs and Scout groups running in Kingsway. We have secured the hire of the school hall at Kingsway Primary School and have some funding to start running meetings.

If your son/daughter is interested in coming to a ‘Meet and Greet’ session, please contact me on 01452 724241 or you can e-mail me on chocpeanuts@googlemail.com and I can provide you with the necessary information.

The ages for each group are as follows:

Beavers:  6 to 8     years
Cubs:      8 to 101/2  years
Scouts:   101/2 to 14 years

At the meeting we will be providing information about what Scouting is all about and what sort of activities we will try and organise.

Meetings are held during term time and we will also have access to District Events which can sometimes involve Fun Days, Chess Competitions, Science Workshops and Weekend Camps.

To make the group successful we obviously need children to join the organisation.
Having been involved in helping run Beavers, Cubs and Scouts at Quedgeley, I feel that it would be an enjoyable experience for any child.

Kingsway – The Big Lunch (2013)

Sunday, June 2nd, 2013 by JoeL

Hi,

And thank you to all of you who joined us for this afternoon’s ‘The Big Lunch’.
We hope you agree that it was a great day and unlike previous years the weather was very kind to us.

A special thank you to Dave Talbot for his organisation of the day and along with Steve Brooks they managed to secure substantial sponsorship from local firms and businesses without which Kingsway Residents’ Association wouldn’t have been able to stage the event. These sponsors included Quedgeley Urban Village Ltd, Quedgeley Parish Council, Oxbode Housing Association, Severnvale Housing, Bromford Living, Guinness Hermitage, Quedgeley Community Trust, The Capital Venue, Tesco, The Bumblebee and Stagecoach.

Thank you too to the other people (you know who you are), who helped to run the event and make it a great success.
Please let us have your thoughts on the event and whether you would like us to stage a similar one next year.
We are also keen to hear from you if you could help to run this or any other event for the KRA.

Thank you for helping make today the success that it undoubtedly was.

Kingsway Community Litter Pick: 2pm Saturday 20th April

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 by JoeL

Hi,

A Community Litter Pick will take place on Saturday 20th April starting at 2PM outside Kingsway Primary School. All equipment will be provided and anyone under 18 will need to be supervised by a Parent or Guardian.

As a Community we have commented on the litter situation in some areas and this is our chance to do something to brighten up the village.

Kingsway Residents’ Association will be joined by the local Pumas and Gloucester Probation Trust along with our local MP, Richard Graham. We are expecting newspaper and radio coverage of the event and this is your chance to be part of a Kingsway ‘good news story’, so why not join us to help make Kingsway a better place to live?

We hope to see you there,

Regards,
Joe

Kingsway Residents Association Meeting 20/3/13

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013 by Clive

This was a lively and well-attended meeting. The official minutes will be added ASAP, meanwhile here’s some of the things I noted:

Kingsway Cubs/Scouts/Beavers:

Julie Preston outlined her plans to start local Cubs / Scouts / Beavers groups within 1 month.
She has provisionally booked Thursdays for the meetings (at Kingsway School): Beavers for 1 hour, then Cubs & Scouts – (will be combined initially) and would very much like to hear from anybody interested in attending/enrolling.
Julie can be reached on (Gloucs) 724241.

Daniels Brook:

Charles Chandler from the Environment Agency explained the reasons for the culling of the trees around Daniels Brook (removed to allow improvement in flood defenses). Charles said that replanting is already taking place.

The Reachout Project:

Andy Jarrett and Jess Price talked about the “Reachout Project”, a project aimed at reaching out to local youths aged 13-18. Jess is asking for details of any local youths who might benefit from their contact.
They are also looking for volunteers to work with them for 6-9 months.
More details (including contact information) available here.

QUVL:

Andy Smith from QUVL talked about Newhaven Road (the name of the Naas Lane Link Road).

He said that the second Kingsway school is on target for September.

Football Pitch #1 should be ready and adopted by the end of April.

The Community Centre, Sports Pavilion and BMX Track should all arrive together – 12 months from now. He said that there will be a “Trim Trail” (a running track with “informal outdoor gym equipment”) running around the outside of the sports pitches, and he also mentioned that QUVL will be looking to engage with interested parties who wish to use/manage (“take ownership of”) these facilities over the next few months.

Joe Logan

Just a personal note of congratulations to Joe from me on your first public meeting… :)
