Barry Thurnell RIP

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 by JoeL

Dear Kingsway Villagers,

It is with regret that I inform you that Barry Thurnell sadly passed away last Tuesday while on holiday.

Some of you will know of Barry and his work for the Kingsway community and although many of you do not know him, unbeknown to you, the majority of you will have been affected by his work on your behalf.

Barry joined the committee of the Kingsway Residents’ Association (KRA) in November 2012 and was given the role of Vice Chairman and more recently he joined Quedgeley Parish Council specifically to represent the views of Kingsway residents. He has been a strong supporter of KRA and despite a health scare earlier this year he was fit enough to join us at this year’s ‘The Big Lunch’.

Our thoughts are with his wife Trudy and the rest his family at this most difficult of times.

Kingsway – The Big Lunch (2013)

Sunday, June 2nd, 2013 by JoeL

Hi,

And thank you to all of you who joined us for this afternoon’s ‘The Big Lunch’.
We hope you agree that it was a great day and unlike previous years the weather was very kind to us.

A special thank you to Dave Talbot for his organisation of the day and along with Steve Brooks they managed to secure substantial sponsorship from local firms and businesses without which Kingsway Residents’ Association wouldn’t have been able to stage the event. These sponsors included Quedgeley Urban Village Ltd, Quedgeley Parish Council, Oxbode Housing Association, Severnvale Housing, Bromford Living, Guinness Hermitage, Quedgeley Community Trust, The Capital Venue, Tesco, The Bumblebee and Stagecoach.

Thank you too to the other people (you know who you are), who helped to run the event and make it a great success.
Please let us have your thoughts on the event and whether you would like us to stage a similar one next year.
We are also keen to hear from you if you could help to run this or any other event for the KRA.

Thank you for helping make today the success that it undoubtedly was.

Kingsway Community Litter Pick: 2pm Saturday 20th April

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013 by JoeL

Hi,

A Community Litter Pick will take place on Saturday 20th April starting at 2PM outside Kingsway Primary School. All equipment will be provided and anyone under 18 will need to be supervised by a Parent or Guardian.

As a Community we have commented on the litter situation in some areas and this is our chance to do something to brighten up the village.

Kingsway Residents’ Association will be joined by the local Pumas and Gloucester Probation Trust along with our local MP, Richard Graham. We are expecting newspaper and radio coverage of the event and this is your chance to be part of a Kingsway ‘good news story’, so why not join us to help make Kingsway a better place to live?

We hope to see you there,

Regards,
Joe

Any Budding TV stars Out There?

Wednesday, February 27th, 2013 by JoeL

Hi,

The Residents’ Association has received this email asking if any villagers might be interested in taking part in this project.

From: RMuldowney@truenorth.tv

Hi there,

My name is Bekah and I work at a TV production company in Leeds. I wasn’t sure if you or your members might be interested, but I thought it might be worth a try.

My company is working on a new series for Channel 4 called ‘Compare Your Life’. We’re still in the casting stages and we’re looking for couples or families who are wanting to buy a business and preferably relocate. If this is something you think your members might be interested in, would you mind just passing along the word?

I’ll include a link to explain a bit more about the show, but if you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Thanks so much!
Bekah

Kingsway Residents Association Public Meeting 20/3/13

Wednesday, February 20th, 2013 by JoeL

The next KRA Public Meeting will be held on Wednesday 20 March at 7pm in Kingsway Primary School.

As well as an update on our activities, we are proposing two changes to the constitution: Firstly an increase in the size of the committee from ten to twelve, and secondly to hold three public meetings per year.

Additionally there will be speakers from the local Police, ReachOut Youth project, QUVL and Environment Agency.

We hope to see you there.
