Quedgeley Post Office

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010 by Baz_k

You may have heard about the issues with the Quedgeley Post office, next to Tesco. I wanted to pass on what I knew about the latest status, as I think it’s quite important that we have this facility in Quedgeley.

In essence, the issue is not as simple, and certainly not as bad as we first thought. Parmjit Dhanda has been able to get assurances out of Tesco and the Post Office that they are both very keen to keep this Post Office open and there is now a 3 month Consultation period in which either see a deal done with McColls or a new franchise holder will be found.

More info’ can be found on Parmjits Blog (this election thing has disrupted the normal flow of communications) ;)

Quedgeley Health Walks

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 by AmandaT

Put Your Best Foot Forward…

Sunday 2nd May at 2.30pm

Meeting at St. James Church on School Lane, Quedgeley.

We are walking down to Carters Orchard in the spring sunshine – hopefully.

Please spread the word – all welcome.

There will be a short health questionnaire to complete – so please aim to arrive a few minutes before we start – the earlier the better.

Health Walks are taking place all over the City, if you would like more information please have a look at the Gloucester City Council website.

Roaming Dog

Monday, April 5th, 2010 by simost

Has anyone got (or rather is repeatedly losing) a white Alsatian or German Shepherd style dog?

Late each evening for the last week, a stray (with a collar) appears in the Thatcham Ave’ / Mount Pleasant area, with no owner in site!

If this is your dog, perhaps you could re-think his/her well-being in the evenings, how you control and contain it as well as the safety of pedestrians walking about the area!
Uncontrolled large dogs at night can be a bit daunting.

This could be an item for reporting to the Council stray Dog Wardens.

Thanks

Builders Working Hours

Monday, March 22nd, 2010 by bgidley

I noticed a while back that the builders (especially Taylor Wimpey) appear to ignore the rules on working hours, and wrote to the council about it. The council confirmed they are not allowed to work before 8 and on Sundays.

As a result of my (and others complaints) they have been monitoring the builders and have now issued Taylor Wimpey with a formal notice requiring them to obey the rules (it seems bizarre they need to raise a notice to make them follow the rules)!
The council have caught Taylor Wimpey breaching the rules on number of occasions. They haven’t caught any of the other builders breaking the rules.

Hopefully this will stop Taylor Wimpey starting early and working on Sundays – but if you do see them doing it you can report them to the council by emailing Andy Birchley or use the Web Form on their site.

Police SCT Meeting – Feb 22nd

Monday, March 15th, 2010 by Clive

The latest Police SCT meeting took place on February 22nd.
On the same day, PC1706 Sam Jones started work as the new Local Beat Manager for Kingsway Village.

During the course of the meeting, we were informed of a recent public consultation undertaken by the Police; the results of the survey were as follows:

48 indicated no problem (that they couldn’t think of an issue for the police to tackle).

21 responses related to cars. However analysing these responses further, there was no pattern of location, or type of offence.

16 responses related to kids: Hanging around, large groups gathering, nothing for them to do, etc.

15 responses related to Anti-social behaviour (ASB). Again there was no specific location, or type of behaviour. Interestingly it didn’t all happen on Friday and Saturday nights!

6 responses were issues only one person raised. Where appropriate, these repondee’s were recontacted, or their concern passed to the relevant authority.

In conclusion, nearly half of people questioned couldn’t think of something for The Police to look at.

The questionaires were carried out at over 15 locations across the local Police beat area, chosen randomly, and took approximately 5 minutes each.

Locations included several in the Kingsway, and outside Tesco’s on a Saturday afternoon.

So, policing priorities remain the same:

1. To tackle Anti-Social Behaviour in Quedgeley, Hardwicke and Kingsway.
2. To tackle speeding motorists on Bristol Road, Green Lane and Pound Lane (all in Hardwicke).

In addition, Fraser Mackie has asked the traffic unit to increase the frequency of their patrols in Quedgeley’s area, and reported that they are planning a joint operation in the near future.

Fraser also reported that the Youth Pod will be arriving in Kingsway during the Easter School Holidays (April 12th) and (although not yet confirmed) the local youth service expect to have funding to open the pod for 3 nights per week.

For more information about the pod, contact Equals Youth Centre.

Access Problems Again

Friday, March 12th, 2010 by sandra brooker

On Tuesday an accident involving a car going into the middle barriers at the traffic lights to Kingsway, meant that traffic coming from the south could not turn right into the village.

Today another accident with a motorcycle and car, again at the entrance traffic lights, caused problems.

Firstly I hope everybody was okay.

How many incidents does there have to be before a second access route is opened? How many houses, occupants and cars does there need to be before anyone takes responsibility?

Are the entrance traffic lights becoming an accident hotspot? At peak times there are queues of cars leaving and entering Kingsway. Sometimes the slip road coming from the North into the village becomes full, and the queue goes onto the main carriageway where cars are travelling at 70 miles per hour…

This will get worse as more houses are built and occupied.
I fear a major smash will happen one day.

Sandra
