Builders Application for Extended Working Hours

Yesterday, we received a letter from the City Council to notify us of an application to extended the current working hours for the builders. We presume everyone did too :?: They have applied to extend their hours to 7.30am - 7pm, Monday to Saturday… This application applies to the whole of the Kingsway site.
Our concern is that the builders are already in breach of the current times set for working hours (8am-6pm), so what will happen if they are extended further?
We regularly have vehicles (both delivery and workers) making lots of noise outside our house; this noise can start as early as 6.30am. If their hours are extended, does this mean they will start at 6am?

Why do they need to extend these hours if they don’t work much past 4pm anyway? Surely if they stuck to their original hours, and actually did a full working day, they wouldn’t need to apply for more hours! Hopefully the warmer weather is here to stay, so we will all be wanting our windows open. Do we really want to be woken by noisy lorries and fumes at 7.30am or earlier? We don’t have an issue with the other end of the day, as long as they do stop noise at 7pm, so children can get to sleep without a digger shaking the house and disturbing them.
We shall be submitting comments to the Council to object to the application. We are hoping that others reading this feel the same way and will also object. Objections must be received by the Council before Tuesday 27th May 2008.
Here’s hoping the application wil be refused and we won’t be woken early!

    Hi carpo18mav,

    We didn’t receive a letter.
Personally I wouldn’t relish an earlier start time. As you say, it’s already apparent that the builders arrive 30 minutes before the current start time and I have a real problem with early mornings
I don’t necessarily have such a problem with a 7pm finish (so long as they don’t go past that) although - in fairness - most of the immediate area around my house is now finished.

Perhaps you could post details of where/how to send any feedback (assuming details were in the letter you received).

We actually receieved the letter late last evening 8O

The letter includes details of how to access the planning application details online.
I presume you did this because I don’t see any details of working hours in the letter, but when I tried I was unable to access the site because of errors :|

    Here are the pertinent bits:
"The details are available for inspection via the council website
Click on View Details of Planning Applications.
    Tick to agree copyright.
Next screen (top left hand side) - Click on “Planning”.
Next screen - Click on Application Search and enter reference no. 08/00584/FUL
    Click on “search”
…at this point you can view details or alternately at the Planning reception 4th Floor, Herbert Warehouse, The Docks, Gloucester.
You can follow the progress of theis application by following the above instructions."

The link (”View Details of Planning Applications”) doesn’t exist.
The closest one I could find is here.
It includes link to a public access site which includes a link to agree the copyright notice here.
When I tried, that link returned an error page!

Perhaps it will work tomorrow

I will also be commenting. Although the immediate area around our house is finished there is still through traffic earlier and later than the published hours, although construction traffic is supposedly not allowed through the site. So despite being a very early riser I wouldn’t want to see these hours extended as the existing hours are not being adhered to. Let’s all get our comments in quick-smart!

    Hi All

Just read your post and would advise that any person wishing to object or support this planning application to write to or email the Parish Office as soon as possible and before the 27th May.

    Thanks Bryan :)

I can see the application today… it reads:"Contruction work and the delivery of materials shall be limited to the hours of 7.30am to 7.00pm, Monday to Saturday, and construction work or deliveries shall only take place on Sundays or Bank Holidays, with the exception of emergency repairs or connection works to public utilities, with the prior written consent of the Local Planning Authority."

I received a letter from the planning department as well. I did object to the extension and today (16th May) received their letter saying that it will be passed on to their planning people. The more people who object the better, if only a few object the builders will get permission.

  7. Clare Says:

I also objected and received a letter of confirmation. It isn’t the hours themselves that I object to per se, it is the fact that even the existing ones are not adhered to! Let’s see whether the objections carry any weight or is this just the “rubber stamping” process…
