The Positive Side
For the past few days I’ve been thinking about life and this estate, and more specifically this blog. I’ve come to a conclusion. The negatives about Kingsway get far more attention than the positives, and - although this is normal - I think a bit of balance may be a good idea.
So how about we take this opportunity to say everything we think is good about our new home?
Mine are:
- My Neighbours are the best I have ever had the luck to live next to, and I really mean that.
- The commuter routes are excellent. I work in Bath and get there in under an hour.
- My house is ace. Big enough for my new family and very comfortable.
- Local Amenities are within touching distance.
So what other positives do people have about Kingsway village?
And please, no negative comments; save them for elsewhere.
Cheers
BD

Hi Big_dave,
Thanks for the post.
Personally, I couldn’t agree more.
I started this blog because - as I said in my opening post - "I like the place and the people so much ".
For myself, I was born in Bath and lived there for 13 years.
In 1972, I moved to Downpatrick (50 miles South of Belfast)
I moved to Gloucester in 1973. Since then I’ve lived in:
Innsworth, Churchdown, Haresfield (The old vicarage), Tuffley Avenue, Southgate Street, Barnwood Road, Vauxhall Road (Tredworth), Fieldcourt Gardens (Quedgeley), Robinson Road (Linden), Alma Place (Linden) and - finally - Kingsway.
Kingsway Village is - undoubtedly - the best of all.
(Haresfield is a close second… It was very nice in 1977 and I still love the village and the people - I have many friends there - but it is a little remote and - since the Post Office was closed [Circa 1980] - it lacks any local amenities).
What I like about Kingsway is:
The Trees: I really love that the Village has been planned around so many well-established and beautiful trees; it reminds me of Bath and makes the Vilage seem much older.
The Houses: Ours is fantastic. We’ve had virtually no "teething problems", have a nice sized garden, and a beautiful (3-bed’) house with plenty of space for us, our daughter and all 4 teenage boys!
The Neighbours: Like you, my neighbours are lovely people. I feel like we’ve known each-other for years and am really happy to know that my children have others watching over them when they’re out of the house.
The Residents: Already we have a Residents Association and look at number of contributors this site attracts! I had no idea when I started that so many people would take an interest (the traffic is huge now - way bigger then the population)! Yes there’s some negativity but - as you say - that is to be expected (particularly whilst the village is "under construction"). It’s great to see that so many people are so interested in making Kingsway a great place to live and I can’t believe how quickly I’ve made so many new friends! Also - I work at home and spend much time out bnd about with my daughter. It’s lovely to live in a part of Gloucester where everybody says "Hi" and is so friendly. Imagine what it will be like once the rest of the houses are built and occupied
Local Amenities: We have the advantages of all of the Quedgeley-based amenities and are set to have our own supermarket, pub’ and local shops, sports fields, parks etc before very long.
The School: Have you seen it? It looks fantastic. It’s really exciting to have such an impressive local school and - having met the staff - I’m also very excited about it’s future.
The Play Areas: I know they’ve received much "negative press" but it’s early days and the plans for the main park and additional sports fields etc are very impressive.
The Access: I love that the Village has such restricted access. Although this will shortly be expanding it will still be very unlikely to attract "through traffic" (cars and pedestrians) which is great for security and makes it much less likely to become a meeting point for "outsiders and troublemakers".
The Location: Easy motorway access, easy access to Gloucester City and - since the Hempsted bypass was opened - to the opposite side of the City, Tewkesbury and the A40 (Ross and Forest of Dean).

I have to agree. Kingsway is such a wonderful, friendly place to live. Everybody will say ‘hello’, and Kingsway is such a pleasant place to live with all the trees and interesting walks nearby.
My fiancee and I love to wander around the site to see what is being built and what is planned. It’s all very exciting to read that the work on the pub (get your priorities right QUVL!!
) has started, and to know where the local amenities are being positioned.
The school looks fantastic, and the orchard, parks and open area are very impressive, and with the grass and planting now well under way it’s going to be impressive for years to come.
WE LOVE IT!!

For me i like:
Neighbours that I can talk to and be happy to invite round for drinks etc
Being able to walk around the estate and see it developing and maturing
A feeling that I can bring my family up here and enjoy it
That all the problems I do have are pretty minor!
That the M5 is so close, yet not on my doorstep
The nearset pub is quite nice!
There are more but I guess most peoples will be similar!
