    Hi Clive
Sorry to be a moan, that’s all I do at the moment!
Do you know who I can get in contact with regarding a complaint about the mud in the little park? I’m absolutely fuming with the mess in there!

My kids are very active, not ones to just sit in all day and their clothes, my carpet and their shoes are ruined… and I’M NOT HAPPY!
I cannot keep them in my garden as it’s the size of a shoe box, and I feel I should be able to get this cleaned up. I would be very grateful if you can help.

On a good note, I just wanted to add that I did a little baby signing with my 3 year old and it’s fantastic, so for anyone thinking about it - Go for it.

  2. Clive Says:

    Hi Louise,

No need to apologise, I know how frustrating it can be :(

I must say we were comparitively lucky with garden space… not that it’s huge but it’s well above average for the area. When I lived in Quedgeley I had a garden which was smaller than my lounge!

I’m not sure who you should contact about the mud but you could start with Trevor Cribb: (Editors Note: Link removed 2009… no longer relevant) He’s the Marketing Consultant engaged by QUVL and is a very helpful guy.

  3. lifeboat Says:

    Newspapers

Does anyone know how to get a newspaper, other than the Citizen delivered daily?
I spoke to the newsagents by Tesco and they said “sorry we don’t deliver to Kingsway”.

On another note: Has anyone thought a small store/newsagents would benefit Kingsway with such issues (with the nearest being Hardwicke at the moment)?

  4. Clive Says:

    Hi lifeboat,

I don’t know of anybody else who is willing to deliver here at the moment, but plans for the "local centre" (shops, pub and restaurant) are underway, which - I suppose - explains why the Quedgeley newsagent has no intention of starting a round here!

  5. lifeboat Says:

    Naas Lane to Kingsway

I am hoping someone could shed some light on this one for me please:

They are building the new roundabout off Naas lane and as I cycle to work each shift watching this being built I note that one stretch of the road is heading towards the roundabout in Kingsway.
Firstly will the two roundabouts interjoin via this road allowing full access from the Kingsway roundabout to the newly constructed Naas Lane roundabout and secondly will there be a cyclist-friendly route or cycle lane along this stretch?

  6. Clive Says:

    Hi lifeboat,

Yes the two roundabouts will be connected. You can check the plans here (Editors Note: Link removed 2009… plans no longer available).

I believe the connection is expected to be there very soon, although my understanding is that the QUVL have control over it for the time being and will probably keep it closed to all but construction traffic until the business park is near completion.

AFAIK, once they hand control over to the local Council it should be opened up.

As for cycle routes/lanes, I don’t see them depicted on the plans but I do expect that there will be facilities for them.

  7. flumper Says:

    Hi there,

Is there anything that can be done with that wall that has been knocked down on Woodvale. It looks an absolute mess, I can’t believe that its not been tided up at least. It wouldn’t take a morning for the contractor to rebuild it!

  8. Baz_k Says:

Im guessing its not their problem, its either the owner or the housing association.

but your right, i hope it gets sorted soon

  9. Clive Says:

    Hi flumper,

I read something on the Kingsway Village website asking for the "culprit" to come forward but I guess that’s not going to happen

There’s a slightly mangled fence on the junction by the traffic lights too :?

I think you’ll find the QUVL loath to start clearing up our mess. I guess their only motivation for dealing with it would be to make things look more pleasant for potential buyers.

You’re right though, it doesn’t seem like a very big job and it would be nice to see it repaired.

I’ll make enquiries and see what they say :)

  10. lja Says:

The culprit was going too fast down Woodvale as usual, lost control around the island and slammed into the lampost and then the wall. Thankfully, the wall stopped the car before it it the front of the houses or worse anyone walking past.
It goes back to the parking debate - if the cars were still allowed to park on Woodvale the cars would not be able to speed down the road like they do at the moment. QUVL stated that cars were removed due to the safety of the children playing around Woodvale. No children used to play on the main roads anyway and all thats happened is that the cars have been forced into the back streets where the children do play and made safety even worse.
As for the wall, I believe it is down to the owner who is waiting for the insurance to pay out. Typical!!

  11. Clive Says:

    Hi lja,

Welcome and thanks for the feedback… I had a feeling that it would be down to the poor unfortunate owner to sort it out :(

Intriguing twist on the road safety topic; that parking restrictions have actually created greater problems by removing obstacles which were slowing traffic down, is a very interesting POV.

  12. flumper Says:

Thanks for the replies. I’ve just written out a post, only to have deleted it… don’t you just hate it when that happens!

When we bought our house, our deads stated that should we not keep our front gardens tidy, then the developer could instruct someone to come in and counter charge it to us, surely that applies to most of the houses bought on this development, do the housing association have such regulations?

You are right, it is unlikely that the culprit is going to come forward, they may not even live here, but someone needs to take responsibility, the buck can’t keep being passed, as with the trees by the park. This development is only 2 years old. I appreciate that QUVL shouldn’t clear up our mess, but they, with the developers should be upkeeping the area until the council take over as they do still have a lot of houses to sell. Even if they worked with the owner/housing association to sort these problems out?

It will be interesting what any enquiries bring up!!!!

  13. flumper Says:

Sorry I’d not seen what lja had written when I posted.

I agree I don’t think Woodvale is particularly safe for children. There is the footpath which runs over the island to the big park, which we witnessed a near miss there with a child on their bike coming down the footpath and not stopping at the road. I think that perhaps something needs to be done to slow down the traffic, especially once the road to Naas lane has opened, which appears to be a nice striaght road for any boy/girl racer, but I don’t think parked cars is going to be the solution. That created a nightmare with cars parking in the chicane pre yellow lines.

As for moving the safety issues to the back of the houses, I guess the developers thought the children would be playing in the park opposite, which has been shut for other reasons! One thing after another!

  14. Mclovin Says:

    Hi Flumper,

I do agree on people flying down Woodvale, as they do down Thatcham Avenue, although I suspect there is little that could be done as there is already a chicane on both roads.
Short of getting our own speed gun I think our only real solution is the the Police. Having said that they may be interested in the income from speeders!

  15. flumper Says:

I like the idea of a speed gun, we could to it in shifts!!! What with this income and that of the fines for going under the bridge, we could get our CTV cameras for the park!

There is always the option of traffic carmers, I know they are a pain, but they work. It just comes back to cost.

  16. Clive Says:

flumper (re: deleting post by accident) lol - yep, do it all the time

I had a reply from QUVL re the garden wall, he said that it is a developer issue (George Wimpey) but - in reality an issue for the insurance of the person who knocked it down!
I couldn’t agree more, but I don’t suppose the culprit has come forward :(

Re CCTV - In fact - that’s the reason why the park is currently closed (whilst the CCTV is installed); let’s hope it’s done before the summer holidays.

Love the idea of taking it in turns to operate a speed gun - lol - maybe the Police would let us keep 50% of the fines

  17. Daisily Says:

I was wondering about the front gardens on Woodvale and who was responsible for the overgrowth. On a similar note, the developers put in all these lovely shrubs and plants but they grow like wildfire. Maybe they should plant something else that isn’t going to spread so much

  18. flumper Says:

Someone obviously agrees with me and the broken wall.

Shame that it has resorted to someone putting up a sign, in order for something to be done.

  19. Daisily Says:

Cant really miss the sign either :o

On another note it looks like Halton Way’s Roads are nearly finished. Maybe we can save our tyres now

  20. flumper Says:

Its amazing what a difference having the finished road surface makes. I always used to cringe as I went over the holes/drains.

With Kinloss, being finished now, maybe we’ll get our green bin!

  21. lja Says:

Re: Front gardens - the plans state that the owner is responsible for the front garden including any trees and shrubbery up to the point of the wall.
What people do not realise is that when they walk on the property side of the wall (near to the houses on the paving slabs) they are actually walking on owners private property.
What I’m thinking about is putting up fencing/gating to prevent people walking and especially cycling through my garden. Otherwise it will ultimately end up with one of my chldren getting run over.

  22. holbeach miserable Says:

    Flumper,

The Police are well aware of who the Woodvale resident who crashed their black Audi A3 through the wall is. There was a Police van and a Police car in attendance and the driver was still present at the scene.

Let’s not draw assumption (correct or not) about the driver ‘speeding’ and losing control unless you witnessed the incident.

  23. flumper Says:

Thats all well and good, but it hasn’t got the wall fixed.

And I don’t recall drawing assumption to the speed of the driver.

  24. holbeach miserable Says:

    Sorry Flumper,

I didn’t mean to infer that you had made assumptions, but others in the thread have.

It may be worth a quick chat to the owners of the property behind the damaged wall, just to see if they are in the middle of a claim with the driver’s insurance?

If not then can the Kingsway Development make a request to the Police for the driver’s details so that they can make a 3rd party claim for the property damage?

  25. Baz_k Says:

Lja, having not seen the plans myself, but when you say the owner is responsible up to the front wall, does it say the wall explicitly or just the boundary? If it is the boundary then the owners are responsible. If it is up to the wall, then it is probably the responsibility of Trinity Estates to repair it or whatever, not QUVL.

    Just my opinion, not confirmed!

    Barry

  26. Daisily Says:

Surely if you have a path in front of your house like your mentioning Lja, unless you were on an end plot with no exit, I doubt you would be allowed to block your section up.
I’m sure theres some small writing on the deeds of the house to say what the rights are with regards to the path?

  27. Mclovin Says:

    Hi there Holbeach,

I’m sure that no one was making any specific allegations about the speeding driver and the wall.
But let’s be brutally honest, to drive up and across 4 metres plus of lawn and pavement into a solid brick wall you have got be to either:
    A. Driving far too fast
    B. Off your tits on drugs or booze
    C. A total liability who shouldnt be driving in the first place.
…or any combination of the 3!

Maybe the A3 owner should just bloody pay to get the wall fixed!

  28. kingswaymum Says:

Im sure the owner of the A3 did not intend to go through the wall. ( lets just hope the person / people in the car were ok ) - however it does look extremely unsightly and not a good image to those visiting Kingsway for the first time.

  29. teddybear. Says:

    Kingsway Racetrack

Having just returned from Tescos this afternoon (3:30 PM to be exact), both my wife and myself could not believe our eyes. Flying past us in the middle of the road (Thatcham Avenue), a Go-Cart!
The driver oblivious of the speed he was doing, no crash helmet, probably no insurance!

What’s the saying? "an accident waiting to happen".

Just to make things worse he proceeded to come by another 3 times!

But let’s look on the bright side, I could make a fortune selling cups of tea at the new Kingsway race track :!:

  30. Baz_k Says:

    re Kingsway Racetrack
But was he actually any good, is he a potential team mate for Lewis Hamilton?

  31. Daisily Says:

I notice tonight they have installed the cctv post and the camera overlooking the Big Park. Lets hope that it is turned Live soon and not just sat there doing nothing

  32. sar.jas Says:

    Hi,
Here is one just for fun.
After the great imagination it took to name the Kingsway Primary School, can anyone guess the name of the new Kingsway Pub’, which I understand the work has now started on.

The winning person buys the first round :)

    Good Luck.

  33. sar.jas Says:

    THE BARN

  34. Clive Says:

    Hi sarjas,

Nice idea  - is “The Barn” a guess or the answer?

  35. sar.jas Says:

    Hi Clive,

The ”barn” is just a guess I’m looking forword to my first pint there :P

  36. Clive Says:

    Hi sarjas,

lol - OK, since they’ve had a problem with bats I’m gonna “vote” for The Belfry :D

  37. Baz_k Says:

I think the Belfry is good,
    some (boring) suggestions

    The Kingswayer
    The Kingsway Arms
    The Parking Space….

  38. mortgageadvisor1 Says:

I’m gonna go for ‘The Kingsway’… (be so much easier once we have all amenities)!

  39. TracyT Says:

    Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a registered childminder living on the Kingsway estate? I have tried the local council but they do not seem to have up to date details of employees on the Kingsway development. My husband and I are moving in to the village Octoberish and was hoping to arrange afterschool childcare for our children from January. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Best

    Tracy

  40. Clive Says:

    Hi Tracy,

I’m afraid I can’t help with recommendations, but I have added a note in the menu (top-right) to try to attract some attention for you :D

  41. sar.jas Says:

    Hi Tracy,
I believe - if your children are going to be going to Kingsway Shool - there is going to be some sort of after school club for that reason, but I am not too sure when this is to take place as they have to make sure all the legal requirements are in place first.
I am sure this would all become clear in future meetings at the school. Other than that you may wish to contact Mrs. Needham direct at ‘shire hall (her contact details are here) to find out if she has any more info’ on this as she is the head teacher of the school. Hope this may be of some help to you.

  42. chrisw Says:

    Cable/Virgin

Does anyone have any idea if cable TV is going to be put in Kingsway and if so when? It seems bizarre that a big new development has had most of the roads done now yet cable still isnt put in meaning they’ll have to be dig it all back up?

  43. Clive Says:

    Hi chrisw,

When we moved here (November 2006), Blueyonder/Telewest (now Virgin Media) told us that they have no plans to install cable in this area for at least another 5 years

So we went with Sky (TV and broadband).

  44. mac Says:

Unfortunately with such a capital outlay in laying cabling, Virgin Media will not spend monies up front.
If in a few years there is a demand for it then they will happily dig up the roads for us!

Shame that the developers can’t help with the cost and recoup as tenants take the service up. In our last home in Bristol it was great… NO UGLY DISHES!!

  45. darrjeff Says:

    Has Building Stopped?

I walk my Dog around Kingsway 2 times a day and it seems to me that there as been a stop to building. Am I imagining it, or is just a slow down?

  46. Clive Says:

    Hi darrjeff,

An interesting question and one which was also voiced at the recent Residents Association meeting.

I understand that houses are still being sold on Kingsway (which is faring better than many new developments in the area/country), but things have (obviously) slowed down in the recent financial climate.

Not wanting to guess, I rang Trevor Cribb this morning and he said that he is aware of a slow-down in the building (for obvious reasons), but that work is still progressing in most areas. Not knowing which specific development area you are interested in he couldn’t comment further, but he said that he was expecting a report/update from the consortium partners soon, and would "keep me in the loop"!

I will publish the information if/when it arrives.

  47. Claudia Says:

    Kingsway Flood Risk?

We are halfway to buying a house in Marham Drive, but when we received the Environmental Search from our Solicitors, we were really concerned because our new home is less then 50 meters away from an extreme flooding area!
I have been ensured by neighbours and by the Project Manager that everything is fine with the efficiency of the balancing ponds, etc.
Unfortunately I can’t get any written information regarding the security of that area; I have called hundreds numbers but it seems they can’t help because of the difficulties of finding the location of our house on their map. The only thing I got is a scary Flood Risk Location Map which makes us thinks twice before buying the house.

    Can someone help please?

    Thanks
    Claudia

  48. Clive Says:

    Hi Claudia,

I can understand your concern, but I think the information you have is (slightly) incorrect, or - more specifically - quite old/out-of-date.

I took a look at some information online… Try this:

    1. Go to the Environmental Agency Flood website…
Note: The link opens in new window and I have numbered this "guide" so you don’t lose your place as you flip between windows 8)

    2. Input postcode GL2 4UE in the box on the right, and click "Go".

    3. In the map which is returned, we are (roughly) underneath the "W" of "Whaddon" (slightly right of centre).

    4. You’ll see the River Severn to the left; the purple "Flood Defence" lines (roughly) show the banks and the wider blue area shows the main "flood risk" area.

    5. You will also notice that the very light blue areas (defined as "Extent of extreme flood") don’t move any nearer in our direction.

    6. In between us and the river you’ll see a "grey area", which is the heart of Quedgeley (some 9,000 houses, none of which were affected by the 2007 flood) and you can also see a thin blue ribbon immediately left of Quedgeley running NE to SW, which is the canal (which - is probably why the light blue area doesn’t extend past that point).
So - barring any natural disasters - we are "safe" from that side (before us, the entire Village of Quedgeley and most of Gloucester City would flood)!

    7. Now click the "Zoom In" (Plus) button once, and click "Pan East" (the right arrow) once.

    8. In the centre of this (very old) map you’ll see "Manor Farm", which is right in the midst of Kingsway Village.

    9. Above it and slightly to the right, you’ll see 6 "buildings" and right of those a cluster of roads/buildings… my guess is that Marham Drive is right there.

    10. You can see that "scary blue streak" just above them, the map key defines that as "Flooding from rivers or sea without defences" 8O

    11. You will also note a tiny thin light blue line on it’s left edge, which is most likely the "extreme flooding area" you referred to in your post
I would define that blue line as a tiny stream (with 8/10 foot banks)!

    12. During the 2007 floods, that stream was of no concern to us at all (in terms of immediate physical danger); the water didn’t come anywhere near reaching the top of the banks and - since then - more work has been done to strengthen/improve the defences in that area.

I also spoke to Trevor Cribb (of QUVL) for confirmation and more information. Trevor said he has received an email from you and has requested more detailed information from the relevant developers/builders; he expects replies within 24 hours and says he will email you as soon as he gets them.

    I hope that helps :)

  49. Claudia Says:

    Hi Clive

Yes you are right I do think the information received is out of date!

Thank you very much for your help but I really hope to receive more information.
Marham Drive is near Thatcham Avenue, less than 250 meters away from Daniels Brook, so I thought it was above the 6 “buildings” just near that “scary blue streak”, but I really find difficult to see on the map.

Thank you very much again and I look forward to hear from Trevor Cribb

    Claudia

  50. Clive Says:

    Hi Claudia,

Yes that’s right - above the 6 "buildings", in the centre of that other "cluster of roads / buildings" (which are no longer there of course)!

It is close to Daniels Brook, but I haven’t found a picture that shows it very well.

There is a useful map here.
If you enter the address details and "Search", in the next screen click the globe to view the map.
You can zoom out and pan right to see the brook and it’s exact location with respect to the house; that should give you a much better idea of the proximity.

    It’s a shame I can’t find an up-to-date satellite picture or photograph :(

  51. Hodge Says:

    Gardener Required

I have been blessed with the most beautiful garden left by the builders…
Ok seriously my garden needs some work to get it level and I also want a border built and some decking put down.

Does anyone know of a landscape gardener / builder who they could recommend?

  52. Claudia Says:

    Wrong Address

Please can somebody tell me exactly the right address: Marham Drive Kingsway or Marham Drive?
I am asking this because calling Tiscali they have both addresses and Royal Mail has got Marham Drive Kingsway only, and I had problem with the postcode; Bryant Homes gave me GL2 2BJ but I found out it is GL2 2DL. Which one is right?

Actually what is the right address? Is it Quedgeley or Gloucester or just Kingsway?
It is giving me headache :(

    Thanks so much
    Claudia

  53. Clive Says:

    Hi Claudia,

    The correct address is:
    #, Marham Drive,
    Kingsway,
    Quedgeley,
    GLOUCESTER,
    GL2 2DL

    GL2 2BJ is for Thatcham Avenue (No’s 1 to 88).

  54. Claudia Says:

Thank you so much, I can’t believe Bryant Home gave me the wrong post code :?

    Kids Football Team

    Hi,

Does anyone have details of a contact regarding an under-8 football team?
I’ve heard that the Hardwicke team are very good.
Will there be a new club for Kingsway?
I’ve seen some kids playing on the field by the big park with a coach, but am not sure what team it is.

    Please let me know,

    Thanks x

  56. mortgageadvisor1 Says:

    Visitors Parking (Headley Court).

For the past month or so there has been a man parking his car in the visitors space in Headley Court. Watching him leave his vehicle, it doesn’t actually look like he lives on H.Court.
It is a real pain as when we have visitors it leaves 1 less space for them to park. Surely there is something that can be done?
I just think it’s rude and inconsiderate of him to abuse spaces. He is most def not a visitor, or if he was he’s more frequent than most of the neighbours!

  57. Clive Says:

    Hodge,

    Sorry I didn’t reply earlier.

I don’t know of anyone but I have added a note to the site meu to try to attract some answers :)

    Louise,

I’m pretty sure there will be a Kingsway team eventually.
I have no idea who’s using the field for pratice, but I will ask my boys when they’re here next… Between them they’ve just about played for most of the local teams (Hardwicke, Quedgeley Wanderers, Gloucester etc).

    Bus Tickets & Black/Green Bins

    Hi
They might be stupid questions, but…

Who do I have to ask for free one month Megabus pass?
    and
Who do I need to call to ask for black and green bins?

    Thanks a lot,
    Claudia

  59. Clive Says:

    Hi Claudia,

No stupid questions… Just slow answers

    For bins, ring: 01452 396396

There’s some information about the Megabus Pass distribution on the Kingsway Developers Website (here), which says they will be distributed soon.
Meanwhile I suggest you try to contact Nathan Williams at Stagecoach (Gloucester). The contact details are available here.

    Good Luck :)

    Bodium Avenue Junction

    Hi,

Can anyone shed any light on when the Bodium Avenue Junction will be opened up to pedestrians?

I have a teenage daughter who is starting at Beaufort School in a weeks time and the only other route I can find that joins to Bodium Ave is an overgrown dirt track which I would not let her use either day or night as it’s just not safe!

  61. lifeboat Says:

    Bollards
This Bollard that raises and lowers under the “underpass” to let Buses through, it really does confuse me as to why it is so intermittent. It works for weeks on end then it stops and - as quickly as it stops working - within minutes everyone uses it as a rat run including Argos Lorries and building lorries.
It amazes me! Why this has spent so long not working?
I really feel for the residents on Valley Gardens, the road has become a rat run.
    What is proposed regarding this?
    Why does it keep failing?
Do we have to wait until myself or one of my colleagues gets a call to Valley Gardens when someone gets hurt… or worse?
And how does everyone find out so quickly when the bollard is broken?

  62. Clive Says:

    Hi lifeboat,

I fixed up your littel faux-pas so I removed the other comment… (Your secret is safe with me)

It is strange about the bollard being so unreliable.

I also saw how quickly word gets around when it’s down - I can’t believe how many people are prepared to risk prosecution for the sake of saving a few minutes… people get so impatient when they’re on the road!

  63. nobbyc Says:

    Good afternoon everybody,

Firstly I was wondering if there were any local amateur running clubs? The reason I ask is that I am running the London Marathon again and wouldn’t mind a bit of company whilst training this year, or if there is anybody that feels like coming for a jog then let me know; either that or it’s me and my Ipod lol

    Cheers, nobby

    Road Signs for Chivenor

I would like to suggest that we have some extra road signs to advise visitors/delivery drivers of numbers in Chivenor Way.

Thatcham Avenue have these signs to advise of numbers up each cul-de-sac, why not Chivenor Way?

The additional road signs would aid everyone when searching for numbers in Chivenor Way, avoid confusion and stop vehicles having to drive up each cul-de-sac unnecessarily.

    Bus Stop on Woodvale

Has anyone noticed that the bus stop on the Woodvale on the left as you go out the Village has a grass verge and nowhere to step off the bus safely; especially dangerous in this horrendous weather.

On the opposite side of the road there is a large concrete area.

Has anyone else noticed this? Who would I contact to bring this to their attention?

    Marham Drive

    Hi,

I am quite concerned about Marham Drive… it just looks a mess! Cars parked everywhere (even on double yellow lines), I don’t think the fire brigade could drive through)!

One night I saw a man from the Housing Association moving the road signs in the middle of the road.

I am concerned it is getting quite a rough area!
    Can something be done?
    What can I do?

    Thanks,
    Claudia

  67. Clive Says:

    Hi nobby,
I can’t help with your running I’m afraid (I don’t like to walk if I can help it)

    Hi ken,
I have asked QUVL if this is planned/possible/likely! I’ll let you know if/when I get a reply.

    Hi Daisily,
This has actually already been brought up with QUVL… Here is the conversation so far:
(RR = Richard Read from the Residents Association; TC = Trevor Cribb from QUVL):
RR: Several residents have asked about a hard standing for the bus stop on Woodvale. There is one for the northbound stop but not the southbound one and when it rains that can get very slippery. A simple patch of concrete between the curb and the path would be adequate.
TC: This will be dealt with when Gloucestershire County Council and the bus company Stagecoach finally settle on the detail of the route around the development.
RR: Would I be right in thinking that this will not happen until Kingsway is handed over to the Council? I mentioned that there is a hard standing on one side of the road already, if this is a Council decision I wonder how that came to be there.

I will let you know how the conversation progresses.

    Hi Claudia,
I’m not certain but it looks to me like there might be some enforcement of the double-yellow lines in the near future!
I’m not sure about the “man from the Housing Association!
If you have issues with crime/anti-social behaviour you could complete a Community Police Report Form so that the Police are aware of the issue(s) and could perhaps assign some resources to the area/problem.

    Claudia,

Was the Housing Association man an employee from the HA or a resident living in one of the properties? If it is the latter, I would complain to the HA - this behaviour is not acceptable!!

  69. Claudia Says:

    Thanks for all your comments.
I have no idea who he was; I was in the car (we had to stop because there was a signs on the way and we had to remove it) and I saw someone placing a sign in the middle of the road that leads into the housing ass. main entrance and then he walked along that road into the housing ass. It was 3am. I guess I wait and see if it happens again, if I complain now I wouldn’t have taken seriously.
    Thanks again
    Claudia

  70. Clive Says:

    You could be right.

That’s some strange and silly behaviour!

Let’s hope that it doesn’t happen again and if it does, let’s hope that someone can identify the idiot.

    Skating Rink

Now that the cold weather is upon us, who’s responsibility is it to grit the roads and make sure the pavements are safe for people to walk on?

I have been coming in and out at all sorts of unsociable hours this month due to work and none of the roads seem to have been gritted. Equally the pavements seem to be able to be used for skating as they too are incredibly slippy and there doesn’t appear to be any yellow grit bins anywhere for people to be able to grit the paths.

I can understand that the side roads may not be done, however I would have thought that the main roads in and out, including the underpass for the bus should have been gritted.

    Thanks
    Paul

  77. Clive Says:

    Hi Paul,

    Re: Skating Rink

I agree. The pavements (particularly those leading up to the School) are extremely slippery.

I have a feeling that we’ll find that - until the roads are adopted by the Council - the responsibility lies with the developers.

However, I took a look for information about this on the Glos CC website and found that the Governement (Highways Agencies) take care of County trunk roads and motorways and Gloucestershire Highways are responsible for the rest.

There’s more information about it here.

Information about Grit Bins, Snow Wardens and salting in Gloucestershire (including contact information) is available here.

Sadly, the map showing key routes etc was created before Kingsway Village, so I guess we won’t be seeing them anytime soon

I hope everybody has been enjoying the snow we have been having. It’s such a rare occurrence to see so many snowmen.

    Baz

  87. MissC Says:

We loved the snow. No moaning coming from this direction apart from it made the garden even more sodden; it never dries that much anyway!

However I was driving back one day, came into the top of the estate and from behind one of the brick walls a snowball hit our window. I have a small baby and another child, this obviously scared them, so I quickly stopped the car and reveresed trying to catch the little $%”£$^£$… never seen them run so fast!!!
It was someone’s child, and maybe parents should remind them that it can be dangerous, let alone scare a smaller child. Wish I had caught up with them, I could have had a word with their parents myself.

  88. Salz Says:

Does anybody know whether Kingsway is in the catchment area for SevernVale or Beaufort? I have noticed the new road going through to Tuffley, and realise that Kingsway is in the middle of the 2 schools. If my child has to go to Beaufort, then I am afraid I shall have to move, as the whole reason for moving to Kingsway was the good primary schools and halfway decent secondary school.
I am sorry if I offend anyone but this is a personal choice.

    Many Thanks

  89. Clive Says:

    Hi Salz,

“Catchment Areas” are not my strong point, but we’ve been here for 2 1/2 years and my son started at Severnvale last year… So I’m guessing you’ll be able to send yours there too!
If Angelina was up I’d ask her (she’d know), but it’s 5am and I’m the only one silly enough to be working at this time of night

  90. Baz_k Says:

Having a bit of a trawl around, I have found a MOD document about schooling for the new ARRC base.
In this it does state that:

“The following secondary schools are nearest to Kingsway:
Severn Vale Secondary School – designated catchment school for Kingsway”

So it would seem that you are ok.
However the easiest thing to do would be to ring the LEA which is based in the Guildhall. (ring 01452 425407 for the education team).

    BTW that document is HERE.

Hope this is of some help.

Does anyone know the “status” of the patch of green around the oak tree in Halton Way?
I seem to remember that it was supposed to be “protected” somehow.
I wish somebody would tell that to the parents of the kids who gather every day to play football on it and rip it up.

  93. Baz_k Says:

Folks, We have been asked to see if the following issue can be resolved.
There are 2 vehicles mysteriously appeared and parked on the lower end
of Thatcham Avenue. The details are: White vans with The Complete Food Company logos on the side Reg nos T8 TFL and V301 DRJ.

The Complete Food Company state that they have recently sold these vans (via auction). They are not taxed. And seem to be parked in not so sensible locations!

If you are, or know of the Owner(s), I would suggest moving them as QUVL have had complaints about them. If they are not moved then QUVL will move them. However they are keen not to have to go down that route.

    Cheers

  95. TraceyP Says:

    Moving to Kingsway?

We currently have our house in Cam on the market with a view to moving to Kingsway; there is a house for sale on Holbeach Drive which we both like.

Now after reading a lot of the negative posts about Kingsway we really dont know what to do.

Does anybody have anything good to say about the area, Particulary Holbeach Drive?

  96. Clive Says:

    Hi TraceyP,

Sadly folks always seem to be able to think of negative things to say, whilst the positive things rarely get a mention :(

It’s a well-known problem with the internet too.. unfortunately the ability to make anonymous comments tends to bring out the worst in people

Mclovin said (pretty-much) the same thing when he created his post about The Positive Side and you can see from the responses that there’s plenty to like about Kingsway Village.

The over-riding reason I created this blog in the first place was because we like it so much here. In fact, all of the local people I know (hundreds now) talk about what a lovely place it is, very peaceful, well-designed, great houses (mostly), beautiful scenery etc etc.

Of course there are problems! It’s new, many things are changing all the time, some of which don’t suit some people! It always amazes me how quickly rumours spread and get exaggerated and… before you know it, everybody is listening to - and propogating - them!

The fact is that the Village is beautifully designed and quite peaceful and the villagers are - for the most part - friendly, kind, considerate, caring and responsible people.
Local amenities are plentiful, local Governement is about as good as you can expect in this day and age and the location is ideal for access to both Gloucester and the rest of the country (very local motorway access etc).

Sadly the slow-down in the building trade & housing market have had a bigger-than-average impact on Kingsway because many amenities are yet to be built. The builders seemed to have left for quite a long while (leaving half-built houses and equipment laying around was always going to be a magnet for youths far and wide to converge on Kingsway and treat the place like a personal playground) although they’re pretty busy around here lately and I’m also told that local house sales have continued - albeit at a slower rate - despite the economic climate.
In addition, the fact that Social Housing organisations have always had a steady stream of waiting occupants, whilst private sales have slowed to a trickle, has temporarily altered the percentage of privately owned properties, leading to huge amounts of speculation and rumour, much of which is groundless.
Of course the builders would like to increase the numbers of “affordable houses” (thus furnishing them with ready customers), but those plans have to be approved (many recent planning alterations/amendments/applications have been refused) and many “Affordable Housing” customers are part-buyers/owners or just normal folks who need housing and are fed up with private landlords taking advantage of the situation by charging colossal rents, imposing unfair conditions and ignoring their reponsibilities etc.

Yes there are problems, (show me an area where that isn’t true nowadays), some folks (irrepective of their backgrounds and personal circumstances) care nothing about anybody but themselves; all over the UK crime & ASB is on the increase and communities are breaking down, but many of the local problems have been caused by people from outside of the area and my personal experience of Kingsway is that it’s a fabulous place to live with a whole lot more positives than negatives. In fact we were recently featured on BBC Points West as one of the few areas in the UK to be bucking the trend in terms of our Community spirit!

Local shops and facilities will soon be underway and many of the “green areas” are yet to be developed (including sports facilities) as well as more play areas and recreational facilities for local youths and children, and local Youth organisations and the Parish Council have many plans for the future of the area.

I’ve lived here with my family (5 children) for 21/2 years, have the nicest neighbours I’ve ever known as well as many new friends, and feel way safer - and happier - here than I have for many, many years.

You just have to accept that - no matter how many things there are to be grateful for - if there’s one thing to gripe about, it’ll get more attention than all of the positive things put together… and if there wasn’t anything to complain about, somebody would invent something!

After all… this is England

    Oh… and - Happy Easter everybody :D

  97. MissC Says:

Tracey I think you need to make your own mind up as to why you want to move this way. Schools, Local amenities, community spirit ( somewhat not high at present )
I think if you are coming from an estate already you will be fine if you are coming from an area with a bit of space you won’t like it as much. Visit the area on a few occassions have a walk around, visit quedgeley too and see what you think - Maybe catch a few ‘ locals ‘ to have a chat with : )

    Thanks for joining us :)

I’m fairly certain that the local representative is Baz_k’s wife Amanda.
She also runs her "school’s out" blog, so you’ll most likely find her contact details there :)

As a matter of fact, the Community Police Reports show that levels of crime in Kingsway are pretty good compared to other areas, but I’m sure that your involvement will be most welcome :)

  108. Daisily Says:

    Hi Clive

With regards to levels of crime on the Kingsway.

What about those reported via the non emergency number? Do you get to hear about those? I reported various things 3 times in one month on that number.

I just wonder whether other people use that instead of the reports?

  109. Clive Says:

    Hi Daisily,

The figures which the Police report to the Parish Council represent the total recorded crime figures for Kingsway and have nothing (directly) to do with the report form on this website.

The form is not intended as a means of telling Police about crimes, they should also be reported by telephone.

The form is a means of bringing them onto the agenda for the Safer Community Team meetings; which is when we (the Gloucester South SCT) discuss use of local Police resources in the forthcoming months.

For instance… in Hardwicke, there are issues with cars speeding by the Methodist Church (from the A38 exit to Naas Lane roundabout) so - following the last SCT meeting, the Police agreed to target that stretch of road for laser gun (speed trap) operations in the coming months.

I add the crime stat’s reports to that page because it’s a convenient place to list them :)

    Hello all :)

I’ve been reading the forum for a while but have only joined up today as I’m moving to Kingsway next month with my young son.

I just wondered if anyone knows how you’ll access the latest bit of Valley Gardens (opposite the primary school playground etc) as there are ‘No Entry’ and ‘Buses only’ signs at the entrance at present - I’m not entirely sure how I’ll drive up to my front door!

Also - when and where are the amenities planned for… shops, doctors surgery, etc?

Thanks - and hope to get to know some of you over the coming months.

  127. Clive Says:

    Hi Haydn08,

Thanks for joining - and contributing :)

If you mean the far side of the school (by the entrance) I believe that the only way to drive there at present is via Thatcham Avenue.
If you enter Kingsway and trun left at the roundabout… Go straight over the lights and turn left at the next roundabout… Follow the road all the way to the end and you’ll see the School in front of you as you.

Once the development expands I think you’ll have much easier access via Naas Lane.

Re: The shops etc… Last I heard development was due to start last month and planned to be finished around April/May next year, (although I wouldn’t be at all suprised to find that this has been pushed back)!

Can anyone let me know who I need to speak to about road signs?
    Mine has been destroyed!
No idea what happened, looks like the incredible hulk has ripped it apart!

  133. Clive Says:

    Hi EG,

The local road signs were discussed during the “neighbourhood walkabout” in July 2009.
    The report said:

They are manufactured from plastic, not aluminium, and so shatter when struck by a stone from passing cars. Incidentally, the signs will be required to be aluminium before the village can be adopted. Some of the road signs have been damaged, and not yet replaced, such as in Mildenhall Way and Valley Gardens. Valley Gardens is a particular problem because it is at the main cross-roads for the village. We therefore ask Mr Jewell if he can address these concerns in his reply?

Mr Jewell has recently been replaced by Andrew Smith, so you could try to contact him.
Also, the Residents Association Committee are due to meet him soon, so we could raise this question for you (or reinforce your complaint / request).

Let us know which road you’re talking about.

  134. EG Says:

Hi, my road is Mildenhall Way, due you have Mr Smith’s contact details so that I can contact him directly about our sign. I also notice that another sign has been vandalised beyond recognition so I can’t tell you what road it is but its the one just before the underpass

  135. Baz_k Says:

    Hi EG,

I am meeting with Mr Smith on Monday and will tell him about the sign, as well as the other one near the underpass. I will let you know of any feedback :-)

What happened to the common sense approach to NOT parking across junctions?? I know we’re ‘sharing’ the road with the contractors while they’re building, but a bit of consideration for the current residents wouldn’t go amiss… I shook my head at a contractor this morning!

  137. Haydn08 Says:

Yup. Also noticed this. So, I am now having to picking up other people’s dog mess bags as well as having to pick up after our own dog…

I’ve seen this through the Orchard and open fields surrounding, as well as along the brook path between Kingsway and Tuffley. I believe that this would be due to the lack of dog bins at the Kingsway end of the path, but don’t condone this in any way. I’m capable of picking up no matter which direction I’m going, and I don’t see why others cannot do the same. We do however, need more dog bins around the estate. There are only 6 on the entire estate so far, and those are all in the parks and orchard locations… We need more.

I’ve also noticed several people who do not pick up after their dogs at all. Several of these have their dogs on leads and have to stop, so have no excuse for ‘not realising’.
Perhaps we should start up a rogues gallery?

    Postal Issues

Is anyone else having an issue with the post in the area?

We seem to be getting a lot of post for other people who share the same door number as us but in different roads within Kingsway. Also with recorded deliveries just being pushed through our letter box!

I have complained to Royal Mail but doubt they take these things seriously enough!

It has got quite bad within the last couple of months!

  142. Clive Says:

    Hi chumly,

Yep… We’ve had the same problem on and off since we moved here!
Mostly our mail is fine nowadays but (I think when our regular postman is off) we have periods when our mail is delivered to another house (same number, different road)! Unfortunately the folks who own the house are moving and are currently only popping in to check the post and a recent solicitors letter was delayed by 12 days because of it 8O

    Vandalism

Last night or the early of this morning (29-03) our garden was vandalized again.
They upturned large containers with flowers in, and then proceeded to stamp on the other things in the garden.
What sort of sadistic pleasure do these people get from doing things like this?
We need more Police around here to try and catch these mindless morons.

  144. MissC Says:

Well we had a break in to our vehicle on Thursday night… Must have disturbed them as they only took some aftershave, left some other things that were valuable..

  145. Clive Says:

    Hi Tog & MissC,

Sorry to hear about your problems :(

Please complete a Community Police Report for incidents like these, otherwise they won’t get taken into account when the Police SCT next meets to discuss allocation of resources in the area.

  146. MissC Says:

Would like to point out, security has been stepped up! Say cheese next time lol… Also taken everything out now.. Tog ours happened on Monday too, not Thursday.. Maybe the same lot…
A crowbar was used, and to be honest I am not happy walking around knowing that someone is walking around with that!!
If something is to happen there then needs to be nightly patrols but that isn’t going to happen with the police, you see the PSCO’s during the day but not at night, and that is also when the prowlers are about.

  147. G Note Says:

    http://www.y-cam.co.uk or http://www.alertme.co.uk and http://www2.intamac.com/

    These are all security products.
y-cam make great security cameras that you can view over your broadband, I am actually going to be buying one of these things with the external housing to monitor our cars, we have also had some damage to our property.

alertme.co.uk make a very good zigabee home monitoring network with a GPRS back up should your broadband fail. They have cameras and an energy monitoring system with a soon to be launched thermostat. (this is what I will be upgrading too when they launch the external siren)

intamac /BT home monitor, I have this at the moment, my builder Bryant was going to charge me mega bucks to install this thing. I paid £58 from intamac and then just pay £5 a month for monitoring. All very much worth it.

Just thought I would put this on here as I too worry about being crime. What are peoples thoughts on people putting cameras on there houses. I don’t want to annoy my fellow neighbours, but I don’t want any more damage. What security do other people use?

  148. Pablo Says:

    Parking on Pavements

In Holbeach Drive there is a safety issue. Cars are parked completely on the pavement at side roads blocking the view of cars turning into Holbeach.

Other cars park opposite the exits of roads.

As well as being a safety issue, it does not give the right impression of the estate.

    Why are people so inconsiderant?

  149. Clive Says:

    MissC,

If something is to happen there then needs to be nightly patrols but that isn’t going to happen with the police, you see the PSCO’s during the day but not at night, and that is also when the prowlers are about.

The purpose of the Police Reports is to allow us to bring these things to the attention of the local Community Police and ask for re-allocation of resources (as far as is possible).

    G Note,

Sorry about the post delay - was because of the multiple links (spam protection - requires my authorisation) and thanks very much for the information :)

    Pablo,

Yeah - lol - it makes me smile to see how folks so often pick the absolute worst possible spot to park

  150. Leo Thomas Says:

    Motorists

Please can you sort out those residents who find it funny to drive along the pavement on Lemming Walk, and those who mount the curb and drive around the bus bollard to save a 3 min drive along the bypass?

  151. Clive Says:

    Hi Leo,

I’m not sure what could be done to stop the Lemming Walk problem right now, but the Police have told me that they will shortly start levying fines against drivers mounting the pavement to bypass the bus bollard.

  152. EG Says:

Hi Baz is there any update on the road sign in Mildenhall Way, it has been broken for over 2 months now

    Thanks

  153. darrjeff Says:

I thought there was a camera to deter people going around the bollard; or is it not working?

  154. Baz_k Says:

EG: No real update I’m afraid. There is a bit of a “bun fight” as to who is responsible for it. I am chasing: "Head V’s Brick Wall" comes to mind

darrjeff: Yes the camera is there to deter people. However to be a real deterrent, someone has to act upon what it sees and that is not happening.

  155. soundaim Says:

When I purchased my house (about 3 years ago) we were advised that there would be shops built does anyone know if this is the case and if so where they are likely to be located?

  156. Clive Says:

    Hi soundaim,

There are still plans to build shops; last I heard (here):

On the subject of the Kingsway Shopping Centre, Health Centre and Pub’, Jane Tooley – a Robert Hitchins employee and QUVL representative – said that building will start in October 2009 and estimated that it will take 12 months to complete

I’m not sure where exactly (where I thought the original plans showed the shopping are has since been built on with houses… So I obviously mis-read them) but I think they will close to the School.

  157. Baz_k Says:

The planning for the shops has gone in and work on the infrastructure is going in now (see the work going on beside the school).
The pub’ will be beside them next to the Manor House.
Not sure about current timescales, but come along to the meeting on Friday and ask QUVL. They will be there

    Coffee Mornings?

Has anyone thought about setting up regular coffee mornings?

I’ve been here about a month and apart from my next door neighbours haven’t spoke to anyone.

If it’s a feasible idea I would be willing to help out if it’s on either a Thursday or Friday.

It would be great to get some of the community together and create some community spirit.

  159. sam-den Says:

    Topcliffe Street

Can anyone tell me where Topcliffe Street is?
I walked all over Kingsway tonight with no luck!

  162. Clive Says:

    sam-den,
hat.brapack asked me to contact you to see if you would allow me to give her your email address (to contact you re: coffee mornings). I sent you an email but it was returned “undeliverable” at the email address you signed up under!

    Haydn08,
I’m afraid not. I only know of one local Wheelie Bin Washing scheme (for the wrong reasons)!

    hat.bratpack,
That’s a new one on me; I checked all known online sources and can’t find any indication :(

  163. Amanda Says:

    Hi Sam-Den,
I’m having an Open House coffee morning as part of Gloucester NCT on Thursday (27th May) 2-4pm. Any Kingsway parents and babies/small children welcome! Contact me on [email protected] for info and directions.

  164. Miss_Lane Says:

    Hi hat.bratpack,

Directions to Topcliffe Street: Turn on to Thatcham Avenue and follow the road all the way round until you get to a road on your left called Linton Avenue, then take a right down a road called Stafford Close and at the bottom of that road turn right and that is Topcliffe Street. No idea if there are signs there yet, but I have a more detailed map of Kingsway which I will send to Clive to put on the website.

    Emma

  165. Miss_Lane Says:

    Hi Haydn08,

I have found a cleaning company who also do wheelie bins: Here.

£3.00 per bin or £5.00 for Two.

    Telephone Numbers: 01452 730636 or 07714 993969

    Emma

  166. hat.bratpack Says:

Thanks for directions, I have found it now - thanks :)

I wouldn’t mind attending your coffee morning if it isn’t too late, but for anyone that has missed it there’s a coffee and chat afternoon at Kingsway School tomorrow afternoon - Friday 28th at 2.15 and it’s open to everyone not just people with kids in the school.

  167. jennaorama Says:

    Hi guys,

We are looking for Portreath Way, we had a drive around last night but couldn’t find it as some of the streets don’t seem to have their names up yet. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Oh and does anyone know if there is a Kingsway/Quedgeley freecycle going?

  168. Clive Says:

    Hi jennaorama,

There’s a new map available at the bottom of our maps page; you can see Portreath Way on it… although sadly, some of the road names aren’t very clear :(

Directions (best I can do - lol):

Travel along Thatcham Avenue beyond the 90-degree bend and pass Linton Avenue on your left.

Take the next left (I can’t make the road name out) and Portreath Way is the 2nd road on your right.

There’s no Quedgeley/Kingsway Freecycle, the Gloucester Freecycle Group is the most local one AFAIK.

    Regards,
    Clive

  169. Jen Says:

We’re looking forward to moving the area and have found this site very helpful in our research.

    Thanks again,

    Green Spaces

    Hi

I live in Halton way and the green spaces in that area don’t seem to have been cut for some weeks now. The whole area around Digby Green is getting really long and make the whole area look really untidy.

Do we know who is supposed to maintain these areas?

Makes me think of last year when the playing field was left to grow all last summer!

  172. Daisily Says:

    Hi Chumly

I phoned QUVL about this and have had no response.
I also called Tesco about the trolleys as I noticed they’re still hanging around too, although they get moved occasionally!

It is quite emarassing now having visitors as it looks like waste ground!

  173. Baz_k Says:

Hiya, Re the grass cutting. I brought this up on Friday with my meeting with QUVL.

The Council idea was that the current uncut areas are those areas that are supposed to have “wild flowers” etc, to give it the “meadow” look. I guess this all takes a bit of time to get right, but I see the idea if you walk along the path by the sports field.

What I have asked for, is that at the Big Lunch (18th July) that the Landscapers provide some large posterboards with the whole scheme so everybody can see what is happening where. Then you can see if your area is supposed to be like that or it is being missed.

    Hope this helps

    Barry

  174. blastu2 Says:

Re: Tesco’s Shopping Trolley’s… Really can’t blame Tesco for these being dumped around the development. The blame is with those who have no respect for the area they have been provided homes within, and are simply too lazy to walk with their bags or have their own household trolley. We too noted a certain resident within our own street who constantly brings Tesco Trolley’s back with her after filling them with the next load of booze for another all-night session before dumping the trolleys on the remaining waste ground nearby; it’s amazing what you can buy when your milking the system on benefits these days!

This is one area of concern where both QUVL or Tesco, cannot be blamed for residents behaviour, if you create a dumping ground, then your gonna be left with one, and shouldn’t pass the blame at other people’s door. I do have concern though when QUVL have their own Road Sweepers which off-load their contents on areas of land waiting for building-on, or the developers themselves who’s workmen dump unwanted materials on the same areas of land - this only adds to the problem when certain residents take the opinion that if they can do, so can we!

What I do agree with though is for more urgent need for CCTV camera’s in and around the development - this would address many issues of concern. The camera’s would monitor those bringing the trolley’s in, and take action toward them. We would reduce crime on the development dramatically, along with those who use the roads as a speed-way or a cut-through/hiding-ground to escape the Police. Those who don’t want CCTV are normally those who have something to hide, if you do no wrong, then what’s your problem with them? CCTV would provide the much needed help toward reducing crime throughout the development.

I am new to Kingsway, only having been here for 5 weeks.I do like the development and my neighbours.
What I want to ask is: Are there any plans for any allotments?
There dose seem to be a fair bit of green space that could and would make for excellent allotments or possibly a Community Garden.

  176. Clive Says:

    Hi just j,

    Thanks for joining in :)

There are plans for allotments, although I think (like everything else) they’ve been delayed!
You can apply for an allotment via the Quedgeley Parish Council; more details are available on the Residents Association Page

There’s also some useful information about local allotments on Baz_K’s Blog.

    Welcome to Kingsway :)

  177. Baz_k Says:

Just J, allotments are not scheduled until well into phase 4. However I am in discussion with QUVL about bringing these forward and getting them in place earlier and it is looking very positive. I hope so as I really want a local one :-)

Hopefully we will have positive news soon.

    Missing Cat

    Hi All,

My neighbour in Marham Drive has informed me that his cat has been missing since this morning. (21-06-10).

It is very unusual for his cat to even leave the garden and has never been seen to attempt climbing a fence. This is the first time he has left the garden and so the owners are not confident he can return on his own.

The cat is a beige/pale ginger british shorthair, he is wearing a collar, and is no older than one year but is the size of a good adult cat. He has also been microchipped.

If you see him please call the number on the collar or leave a message on here.

    Thank you

  179. Miss_Lane Says:

    Hi,

The cat has now been found.

    Thank you.

As someone who has a house without a Garage that could do with some extra storage, does anyone know if there are to be any communal garages anywhere local? Private company or Council owned? I appreciate that there are places like Gloucester Self Store in Hardwicke, however none of the companies seem to appreciate that people work and would like access outside of business hours!!!

I know these are inherently prone to crime, however they seem to be very common in other countries with no real issues.

    Thanks

    Paul

  181. Baz_k Says:

Paul, not sure about immediatly local, but there is the Big Yellow on Eastern Avenue which is pretty good and accessible. Also secure. But I don’t think it is super cheap either.

  182. Paul Says:

    Hi Baz,

Thanks, although I have a trailer that I need to store so really need a garage or similar. It’s a shame that you can’t get decent access at GSS as they have exactly what I need but only if you don’t work normal business hours!

    Paul

  183. lja Says:

Try Gloucester City Homes 08004082000. They manage the Council stock on their behalf and the closest garages I can think of would be in Tuffley. Used to be couple of quid a week. May be a waiting list though.

    Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could advise on tree removal?

We unfortunately have a tree (planted by the developer) very close to the front window of our house. It is approx 6m high and ~ 2.5 meters from the front window. I am concerned about root damage.

Can I just cut it down and replace it with something more manageable?

Freegle have had a couple of table top events where you can bring any items for recycling and then take anything that takes you eye. So now knowing that there`s people who are interested if you want i can keep you all informed when we next have table top events or if you require any more information on freegle than we`d be happy to help

I wouldn’t be in a hurry to chop-down any tree within a short distance of your property as you could find yourself being issued with a fine!

You can contact the council, who in-turn will confirm with you what kind of tree it is, and then decide if you can remove it/replace it with something else. Please find below details of the officer who can provide you with the information you need before you chop away!

  195. Jen Says:

I second that Emma, well done Barry for standing up to them, why should Kingsway take a hit every time they have a slow news day?

  196. G Note Says:

Yes Thanks Barry. I am tempted to take it to court as they are completely in the wrong about what they said. Look at the stat’s: Yes ASB in Kingsway has risen, but only to (in fact slightly lower) than those in Quedgeley. They should however win a prize for taking things completely out of context! Yes Kingsway has it’s issues, but come on! Nowhere near as bad as that. Also in the same paper they mentioned a stabbing in Abbeymead, was that headline news? NO! So they thought they would devalue our houses instead.

Pet Carers is advertised in the local Quedgeley Newsletter which is delivered through the door, or you can find her online at http://www.petcarers.co.uk.

Pet Carers offer dog walking, puppy home visits and overnight boarding for your pets to cover holidays or weekends away. I’ve used both the home puppy visits and the holiday boarding and can highly recommend her service.

    pasty53,
    I don’t know, but I didn’t get anything either!
(Cross-Posted) Thanks Tony, that makes sense.

    CandG,
    I don’t know… but that’s disgusting

I’ve had an update today regarding the consultation. Unfortunately time did run out for them.

However, they are coming back to Kingsway on Tuesday 8th March to continue where they left off. They will try and see as many residents as possible.

    Hello,

I am a 53yr old retired male, really happy to live here. I moved from Radstock (South of Bath). Been here 3 months now, my only complaints are construction traffic and litter… So far - ha ha - I would like and need more exercise.

I saw hilspill was enquiring for a dog walker and would like to offer up to 15hours weekly, locally only (ie Kingsway); I would like to find out if there is a demand.

  221. Clive Says:

    Hi Tony,

    Thanks for the update :)

    Hi nono,

I was born and raised in Bath myself, and am quite familiar with Radstock/Midsomer Norton.

Welcome to Kingsway and good luck with the dog-walking :)

Citylife - The City Council’s publication for residents

Kingsway Residents may find the City Council’s publication ‘Citylife’ helpful.

  227. blastu2 Says:

    helios,

We purchased from Taylor Wimpey (for our sins). The day we were expected to obtain the keys for the “hand-over” their plumber flooded our entire ground floor. A month into residing in the house, and from repeated attempts towards getting Taylor Wimpey to correct the many defects with the kitchen - it was discovered that we were living with a Gas Leak (six inch screw straight through the main gas inlet pipe) caused by their kitchen fitters before we took ownership. We constantly have lumps falling from the roof which has been inspected, and found seriously defective. The upper staircase moves when you step onto it. Water damage from leaks. Deep holes in our walls due to defective boiler needing replacement (holes remain after six months), defective installation of taps under bath caused a major flood which fell through the kitchen. The water pressure is so poor - if you attempt to use the shower when a tap is turned on elsewhere in the house, the shower and tap stop flowing! The list is endless but you get the idea - when it comes to Taylor Wimpey… RUN THE OTHER WAY!

On a different note. I have brought to the attention of QUVL, Severn Trent Water & Gloucester City Council - an underground water/sewage problem which rises-up through the soil forming a large patch/puddle on a permanent basis regardless of the weather conditions. The problem has been ongoing for at least 18 months, and QUVL do what they do best, IGNORE THE REPORTS. Severn Trent Water will not correct any problem as they don’t own the pipe network until the development has been adopted, and The Council takes the same approach regardless of whatever this underground concern is causing this continuous spill. Now we are all expected to be more careful when preserving water, and certainly even more concerned that there could be an environmental hazard. Sadly those expected to respond don’t take the same approach themselves!

We have maintained images of this seepage rising-up throughout the past 18 months, providing them for those to address it. The seepage is still in place at this time whilst building work carries on around it! I know one thing - the person who buys that house within inches of the seepage will not be impressed if it causes underground damage around them. The corner section of Linton Avenue, just off from the junction point of Brize Ave & Goose Bay Drive.

    Woodvale

There is a drain cover that is sending us slowly insane as every other vehicle rattles it. I know the roads havn’t been adopted but surely something can be done to secure it?

  229. darrjeff Says:

You have to remember that Kingsway was built on what was considered a “flood risk area”. That is why they have balancing ponds all over Kingsway. They were constructed so that any water run-off has somewhere to go.

Plus another problem arose that with Kingsway being built on old RAF storage units there was a lot of contaminated land, so a lot of the top soil was removed over a large part of the development. This could also mean the water table is now closer to the surface which could cause water to settle for large periods.

    darrjeff,
You do seem to have a lot of interesting knowledge about the history of the area; I don’t know if there’s a particular reason for that, or whether you just did a lot of research etc?
I wonder - if you have the time - whether you would consider writing an article or two on the history of the area/village to pass on some of that information? I’m sure we’d all be very interested (I know I would).

    - It depends which space you mean. The bit to the west is part of the local centre and it is unclear what will be built there. The bit to the south will be a play area leading to further houses further south.

You can see these on the local plans.

  251. Barry Kirby Says:

Vintec - I think we are talking about the same place, but will check.

  252. Charlongo Says:

It’s already so noisy where I am. All the houses are occupied and the kids spend all day screeching and shouting with their mum’s shouting at them. What I meant is that probably more will gather round there and make more noise. I don’t mean to be horrible but it really gets me down when I want to sit in my garden on a sunny day and all around me is screaming and swearing (children and adults alike). I wish I’d never bought this house (I’m on Portreath Way by the way - not that anyone knows where that is as there’s no flaming road sign). grumble grumble!

  253. Chantal Says:

There are still some rumours circulating that Sainsbury are going to occupy the shop. Does anyone have any new information/opening dates etc?

I have looked on Tesco web site to see about applying for a job at the new shop and there is absolutely nothing on there to say a new shop is about to open.
Can anyone help with where to find out about applying - Tesco extra just tell you to apply online! A great help - NOT!

  256. Barry Kirby Says:

    CandG
Its definitely a Tesco Express that is opening. And my latest information is that the building will be finished to hand over to Tesco (and the other occupiers) at the end of this month. Apparently Tesco are rather good at the fitting out (they seem to be getting a lot of practice) and expect to be ready to sell at the beginning of September.

Unfortunately I don’t know about applying for jobs, but you may want to ask Customer Services in the Quedgeley Tesco, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

    Move to Kingsway

We are currently considering a move to Kingsway and while the house itself is great we have some reservations about the location as Kingsway has had some bad press?

Can anyone who lives in the LionCourt part of the Development offer any counters to what I think is probably just mis-information?

    Thankyou
    Matt

  259. Clive Says:

    Hi Matt,

There were some negative articles published in the local press. One in particular was responsible for the rumours/speculation you are talking about, but it was indeed misinformation. The Editor In Chief of the newspaper in question was recently invited to speak at our Residents Association meeting, where he confirmed that the article was written as a result of an anonymous telephone call and that no effort was made to substantiate the information before publishing!

  260. MattAnderson Says:

    Hi Clive,
Thank you for your response, it is helpful.
From what I read The Residents Association is very active in resolving issues that arise.
If the Tesco Express and Chemist together with the Marston Pub and the possibility of an Asda Store are anything to go by, Kingsway is well on its way to being more self sufficient.
    Thanks
    Matt

  261. Clive Says:

    Hi Matt,

    My pleasure

Yes, the Residents Association has been very pro-active to date, and particularly instrumental in establishing lines of communication with the developers, local authorities, local Councillors, Police, Housing Association representatives and other interested parties; (hence our involvement in asking the local newspaper EIC to attend the meeting and explain the origins of said articles that incensed many local residents)!
We also organise local events (The Big Lunch, Halloween Events etc) where local folk can meet, mix and socialise.

We’re all awaiting the opening of the Pub’ with bated breath (mine’s a pint), and - possibly - the coffee shop :)

All in all, it’s a very friendly place to live and - once the building works are completed, roads re-surfaced and houses occupied, I firmly believe it will become a very sought-after part of Gloucester.

Let us know if you do decide to make it your home too :)

    Regards,
    Clive

  262. nono, Says:

Waiting and waiting for the roads to be surfaced, many years now for some long term residents. Just walk the estate to see new saplings broken off, litter, vandalism, no pride grass cutting, little services, a Taylors & a Chemist bring very little. The area has no through traffic ie Police, which would be helpful. Extremely low, if non-existent police patrols, even if you raise an issue. The area is a containment zone. We have a stream, railway and the A38 bordering us locally with only foot routes to escape, still. I do admire your optimism Clive, but open your eyes to the here and now. We have a great little Tesco, I also hope the Pub’ will be a success, but the design of the whole area, with it’s big parking issues and other concerns which nowadays it is so wrong to bring up, this will never be a village or a sought after part of the wider Gloucester picture. I believe it will only go downhill, mainly due to how many houses they are shoehorning into a nothing happening box.

  263. Clive Says:

    No, no, nono… Yes
The road surfaces are a nuisance as is the parking in some areas (although we all know who’s to blame for that)!

Grass cutting and grounds maintenance is excellent where I live.

There have been constant Police patrols and initiatives in Kingsway, and crime stat’s for the area are excellent - particularly when compared to neighbouring boroughs… (Also litter is far better here than my previous neighbourhood).

And the 2nd access road has been opened for several weeks now (ever since Tesco’s opened).

I’m not saying it’s perfect. The death of the housing market has certainly caused some horrible issues (road resurfacing being a good example) but we love it here and I really do think it will become a popular spot once the market picks up and everything is (finally) finished.
