Quedgeley Parish Council Garden Competition 2008

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Quedgeley Parish gardeners and residents are being urged to get their hands muddy as the Parish Council are launching an annual Garden Competition that it is hoped will be the first of many.

The event is organised to recognise and reward the hard work that so many of our parish residents put in to their gardens etc. The tremendous efforts of many of our gardeners are so often overlooked and this is an opportunity for these residents and groups to receive the praise they deserve.

Parish Councillor Bryan Claridge says “I think it is vital to appreciate how something like this competition can play its part in promoting Quedgeley as a village that encourages pride in its environment and community.”

Shields and rosettes will be awarded in the following categories: Front Garden Class, Back Garden Class, School & Communal Garden Class and Under 15 Display Class. Judging will take place during the second week in August 2008 with presentation of awards being held in the Quedgeley Community Centre on 30th August.

Entry is FREE and entry forms are available from the Parish Office at 9C the Old School House, School Lane, Quedgeley, Gloucester GL2 4PJ or can be e-mailed to you if you contact us on [email protected]

The Closing date is Friday 25th July 2008

Builders Application for Extended Working Hours

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Yesterday, we received a letter from the City Council to notify us of an application to extended the current working hours for the builders. We presume everyone did too :?: They have applied to extend their hours to 7.30am - 7pm, Monday to Saturday… This application applies to the whole of the Kingsway site.
Our concern is that the builders are already in breach of the current times set for working hours (8am-6pm), so what will happen if they are extended further?
We regularly have vehicles (both delivery and workers) making lots of noise outside our house; this noise can start as early as 6.30am. If their hours are extended, does this mean they will start at 6am?

Why do they need to extend these hours if they don’t work much past 4pm anyway? Surely if they stuck to their original hours, and actually did a full working day, they wouldn’t need to apply for more hours! Hopefully the warmer weather is here to stay, so we will all be wanting our windows open. Do we really want to be woken by noisy lorries and fumes at 7.30am or earlier? We don’t have an issue with the other end of the day, as long as they do stop noise at 7pm, so children can get to sleep without a digger shaking the house and disturbing them.
We shall be submitting comments to the Council to object to the application. We are hoping that others reading this feel the same way and will also object. Objections must be received by the Council before Tuesday 27th May 2008.
Here’s hoping the application wil be refused and we won’t be woken early!

Kingsway School Admissions for 2008

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

As the Headteacher of Kingsway Primary School I thought I would just let everyone know that you can now apply for places at the school.
Although, much has been published about the delayed opening, we already have 25 confirmed reception pupils starting in September 2008 and 40 expressions of interest for Years 1 to 6 which I will be confirming this week.
While this delay is frustrating for everyone, I hope that parents continue to sign up to their local primary school - it really is stunning and well worth the wait!
If you require a place at the school and have not already approached the Admission Team at Shire Hall, you need to write to the following address to request a place:
Kingsway Primary School
c/o Shire Hall,
Westgate Street,
Gloucester.
GL2 2TP.
I will then send you an application form and I can add you to the list and start mailing you information. Alternatively, email [email protected] and I will email you the form back.
There are 15 places available at the school in every yeargroup and I am already nearly full in some yeargroups so do apply as a matter of urgency. If you are not successful in getting one of the 15 places in your yeargroup, do not worry. There is an appeal process which I can talk you through and it is likely you will be successful.
If any resident wants to contact me about any other school issues, then just use the contacts above and I will reply asap.
Take care everyone!
Mrs Paula Needham

Kingsway School Naming Ceremony

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

In his comment of April 25th re: Kingsway School, Julian Powell (Chair of Governors) said that the School naming ceremony will take place “next Saturday at 11AM”.

We (and several others) assumed he meant May 3rd, so we popped along to watch only to find that it was last Saturday (April 26th) :!:

Ah well… it turned into a trip to the park for the children so they were happy
