Merry Christmas Kingsway

Monday, December 24th, 2007

It’s nice to see so many Kingsway houses sporting Christmas lights and decorations, the Village looks very festive.

I was planning to get out and take some pictures, but I’ve been terribly busy and getting ready for Christmas with 5 children is never easy… no matter how far ahead we plan we always struggle to get everything done in time :|

I’ve just completed another tour of Gloucestershire for the annual family “pressy drop-off”. As usual nobody was home first time around, the roads are full of impatient nutters and I came close to running out of petrol because I left all my money and credit cards at home

Oh well… at least I remembered the pressies ;)

MERRY CHRISTMAS KINGSWAY VILLAGERS…

Kingsway GP Surgery

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

We received a circular today which reads:

GP Surgery Coming To Your Area Soon!

Here is an opportunity for you to learn more about the new GP practice that is coming to Kingsway soon.

A representative from Gloucestershire PCT (Primary Care Trust) will be at Bryant Homes Design Studios Thatcham Avenue on Saturday 15th December between 10.00am and 12noon to give details of the surgery.

We would like to hear your views on the proposal and hope you can take the time to view the plans and information on offer.

Contact: Cllr Jackie Hall Telephone: 883463 or email Jackie Hallif you can’t attend but would like additional information.

Added - Dec 21st:
We were unable to attend so I contacted Cllr Hall who very kindly replied as follows:“We had a fairly good ‘drop-in’ session on Saturday. More people came to this than the one we held over in the Community Centre. I think the attraction was the PCT! What I will do is ask Stuart from the PCT to make notes from the meeting in a question and answer format so you can use them on your blog.”

More details will follow as soon as I get them… (Details received in Feb’ - see here).

Burning Issues

Monday, December 10th, 2007

The former RAF Quedgeley site has been proposed by the Gloucestershire County Council as one of two possible sites for the building of a giant incinerator (site #2 is at Javelin Park, Haresfield).

The incinerator would be capable of burning 90,000 tonnes of waste a year and has been proposed as an alternative to landfill… this despite the fact that their manifesto promised not to introduce incinerators, and instead look at other methods of disposal.

Local Politicians have joined forces to block the proposal, voicing concerns including what will be done with the resulting toxic ash, increased levels of waste being “dumped on Gloucester”, the theory that incineration “undermines recycling by relying on waste to make a profit” and “a need to ‘feed the beast’, meaning waste which could be recycled, will be burned”.

Parmjit Dhanda MP for Gloucester has created an online petition.

The county will make their decision next April.
