Getting Involved

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

I’ve been ill for a week or so now (nothing serious, my daughter picked up a cold/flu bug at school and I caught it - lol) so I’ve not yet been able to get out and take the pictures as I was intending, nor have I been able to get out and publicise the site’s existence (so here I am posting and nobody’s reading - lol).

Thanks to Google we do have a few registered members already, which prompted me to post some information about how to get involved with this site.

First of all, if you’re interested in posting comments you need to register, (it’s free and painless and all email addresses will be kept 100% confidential). Shortly after you’ve done that you’ll receive a mail notifying you of your password and will then be able to log in, change your password, fill in your “profile” and post comments. Your comments won’t show up until I’ve approved them (stops spammers from adding unrelated rubbish or offensive posts) but I check very frequently so it won’t take long.

If you’re interested in becoming an editor (allowing you to add posts to the site) you need to contact me to discuss it.

In addition, I work in the web publishing business. So if you have some spare time and you have a hobby (whether or not it’s related to Kingsway) which you’d like to write about, or if you are a keen photographer and would like to start an online gallery, contact me and we can discuss the idea of my creating and hosting a website/blog/gallery for you (which could cost you as little as nothing and could earn you some money).

Parking Restricted on Woodvale

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

You will have noticed the double yellow lines which were added to both sides of Woodvale last week along with many other Kingsway roads.

Personally I was expecting to see them in the vicinity of the traffic lights and the “sausage shaped island” (cars right on the edge of there were a bit of a nuisance) but I am suprised to see that both sides are now fully lined and I know that many Woodvale residents are peeved about it because they weren’t expecting it either.

Their problems are exacerbated by very minimal parking provided with most houses and the constant presence of the various construction and trade vehicles where building work is ongoing.

It’s nice to be a little remote but it does mean that many houses have more than one car and I had expected that one side of the road would remain free for residential parking (not to mention visitors)!

I suppose once the building has all finished it may improve but I can’t help thinking that things will get worse as the population grows :(

Lock up your Bikes

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Last week (Wednesday or Thurday) we had a pushbike stolen from our back garden and one of our neighbours had the same problem a week earlier!

His was a red and grey Appollo XC.26 - as new - with black tape on the saddle and ours was a blue and white Appollo XC.26 (mens) bike with damage to the front cogs (so restricted to only 7 gears instead of the normal 21), no bell (normally standard but we took it off to give to one of the boys) and no front reflector (same thing - lol).

So if you happen to see one laying around or get offered one for sale which fits either description, I’d be most grateful if you’d let me know, or (if it’s ours) you can call the local police on 0845-0901234 and mention incident number #353 dated 9/9/07 (when we first noticed - lol).

It might be advisable to make sure your bikes are locked up. Ours were both in our back gardens but my gate didn’t shut properly (does now… just in time - lol) so the thief/thieves came into our gardens to get them!

It would also be very interesting to know if anybody else has had the same problem recently… The “on yer bike” cycle scheme may be an invitation that local thieves are unable to resist!

Please ring me or register and post a comment about any similar problems; it’s part of the reason why the site was created.

Back to School

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

I have to say I was glad to see the children go back to school, maybe now I can (finally) get some work done!

Actually it was quite a sad event for us. Our daughter Phoenix Rose started at Fieldcourt Little Owls (Pre-School) and I had really mixed feelings about it when we dropped her off for her first half-day :(

She loved it of course, came home with a beaming smile on her face and full of herself.

I’ve been struggling to catch up with work after the summer holidays, it’s really difficult with so many kids around the house so I had a bit of a backlog… Hence the delay getting this site up together. Ah well… things can only get easier from now on (famous last words - lol).

I’ll be getting out and about with my camera soon so if you see a stranger wandering around taking pic’s of your street don’t shoot… it’s only me ;)
