Refuse Collection

Created by Rebecca

We haven’t had a refuse collection since 19th December and it’s now the 5th Jan!

The Gloucester City Council website does state that there would be no collections during the week beginning 22nd Dec – but what has happened since then?

Does anyone know anything about when we are likely to have our rubbish collected?

We noticed a lorry around Kingsway on Saturday – but it did not visit Marham Drive. All the houses in Marham Drive have very full dustbins and additional black bags – these are now starting to attract seagulls….

We have contacted the Council, but have had no response so far!

I just wondered whether any other roads have been affected, and if anyone knows anything?

    Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for joining, and contributing :)

I looked into this a few weeks ago.
I made this post in March 2008 regarding Bank Holiday refuse collections (for Easter). I had linked to the relevant pages on the Council website, but I found that the pages had been deleted/moved (with no redirects set up)

They have a document entitled “Your Christmas and New Year refuse collection arrangements” (I won’t link to it in case it moves again) which says:

There will be no refuse or recycling collections in the week beginning
22nd December 2008. For week beginning 29th December:
Normal Collection Date Revised Collection Date
    Monday 29th December………………………….Normal Collection
    Tuesday 30th December…………………………..Normal Collection
    Wednesday 31st December ……………………Normal Collection
    Thursday 1st January 2009…………….Friday 2nd January 2009
    Friday 2nd January 2009…………..Saturday 3rd January 2009

They certainly collected from Thatcham/Kinloss on Saturday 3rd, so I guess that was the plan! If they missed Marham Drive I suggest you ring their Customer Services on 01452 396396.

    Regards,
    Clive

    Rebecca,

I telephoned the Council refuse "help line" (soon to be renamed the "unhelpful line") on Friday, asking if there was an Xmas tree collection, Xmas tree drop-off point, or whether I could chop it up and put it in the green garden waste bin.
The reply I got was "I dont know, let me check thier website"… 5 min’s later "I’m sorry, they haven’t updated it yet"!
Why oh why do they privatise these services and then know naff all about it?
As for the bin men, they did come on Saturday, but decided to leave two bags on the drive and litter and rubbish all down the street!
What happened to the nice friendly bin men that I remember from anywhere else I have lived? It seems that Kingsway have a bunch of power-hungry blokes who try to lecture you for having the wheelie bin lid open a couple of inches, or for not putting them in the correct position, just for them to leave the empty bin wherever they like.
I normally tip my bin men at Xmas but not this year, or any more to come! I don’t mean to rant on and I know they are busy at this time of year, but so am I and I still manage to do my job properly!

Thankfully our rubbish was finally collected on Monday afternoon :P – but only after my husband sent a ’sternly-worded’ email.
We had tried the customer service phone number, but didn’t have much joy from them either. I don’t know whether they were just down to skeleton staff over the holiday period, but the person we spoke to didn’t have much of a clue.
Nevermind, at least everything has been rectified now.
