Turning Kingsway into a Dump

Created by tog

I’ve just come down Valley Gardens road by the new school, with some friends who wanted to have a look around Kingsway with a view to buying a house here. What we were confronted with was an old bed and mattress, some ripped floor coverings, a pile of old discarded cardboard and newspapers!

Apart from being a complete eyesore, this will also encourage rats and other vermin.

Have the people who dumped this rubbish no pride in there surroundings?
I feel sorry for the people who do try and keep Kingsway a clean place to live.

The footnote to my story is that my friends have not been put off buying here!

I only hope the County Council or who ever’s job it is gets this rubbish moved quickly and either fines the culprits or gives them a good talking to.

Sadly I think we’ll find that this is not yet the Council’s job as they haven’t adopted the village, although the refuse collectors do seem to be very good at clearing up mess that isn’t their responsibility.
    An example of this…
Rubbish collections are meant to be Friday but a few weeks ago when there was a Bank Holiday the rubbish was collected on Saturday morning instead. This meant that over Friday evening and night the wheelie bins along Woodvale were out at the front of peoples houses. Not a problem usually, until a group of extremely inebriated “young ladies” came back from the pub late in the evening and decided to upturn the contents of the wheelie bins into the road.
Now it is not the responsibility of the refuse collectors to clear that up but they did and did an admirable job.
Why oh why do some people feel the need to litter our streets?
I’m glad your friends haven’t been put off buying a property on Kingsway because apart from these localised incidents it is a lovely place to live.
I just wish the council would hurry up and adopt it because until they do we have no-one to complain to!!

The bed was put out by us 3 weeks ago. The Council were due to collect it on the 22nd, but they didn’t. So I called them and… we have another 3 weeks to wait for them to collect it!
As for the rest of the rubbish, people keep dumping their stuff on top! I don’t know why… most of the stuff looks like it could have been bagged up!

P.S. It’s a futon and 3 hardback cushions, not a bed and mattress.

It must be an epidemic… I have a friend in Cheltenham with a similar problem where the Council agreed to collect bulk rubbish items and then didn’t turn up!
It can be a pain when arrangements have been made and – of course – it’s not always possible to put the rubbish back until they show.
It is a shame you couldn’t have moved it into your garden or somewhere similar, to avoid “the lemming syndrome” (others following in your footsteps)… Of course I understand that may not be possible.

As for a group of "young ladies" upturning bins… I wish I’d been out there with my camera

I can’t believe the careless attitude of people who dump shopping trolleys and such like in the streets  What a great example to set for those youths we keep complaining about!

I strongly urge you to keep bothering the Council until the garbage is collected… If you ring often enough they will often respond (I used to ring them monthly to move rubbish from my old street… we had a whole bunch of fly-tippers in that neighbourhood); they always managed to move it within 48 hours.

Just wanted to say thanks to Lissie to let us know whats happened.
I tend to go out with my daughter for a walk every weekend and was beggining to wonder what the rubbish was there for.

Hopefully the council will sort it prior to anyone setting fire to it??

Unless anyones got a flatbed truck on here and would volounteer to take it to hempsted skip?? I’ll offer a strong back??

The council have finally taken the “pile” Which was surprising as they weren’t due to collect till the 25th…Its a Christmas miracle…early that is lol
