Pavement on Marham Drive
Created by ClaudiaThe pavement has been done last week on Marham Drive and let me say it looks ridiculous!
There’s a road, then tiles, then road, then tiles again…
Were they trying to save money?
I saw the other road almost opposite Marham and it looks fantastic.
Why did they do that?
Is it what they planned?
If so I really don’t think it was a good idea!
I am really disappointed and almost regret I bought my house on that road.

QUVl has lost interest in Kingsway because the houses are not selling. Most houses are now going to Housing Assocations so the Developers are less willing to spend time and care and importantly money on doing things like Pavements and Roads.

Hi darrjeff,
Whilst I don’t disagree with your sentiments…
To say that most houses are now going to Housing Associations is a little bit of an exaggeration (although they are certainly taking more than was originally planned).
Whilst it’s true that the QUVL have followed the rest of the housing industry and pulled in the reins (OK I’m being kind here – lol), they are still obliged to make pavements and roads serviceable.
…Maybe they just had a naff team on that particular job!

Fair enough but when I bought the house, I was expecting something different (including the surroundings). After giving the money, we had a well cheap result. Sorry but I will start to complain to whoever I know because I spent a lot of money for a place they told me was going to be great. I understand the roads are not my property but when you buy a house, you also see the area where you are going to live.
Thanks
Claudia

Hi Claudia,
I understand and I agree with you (as I said before).
Now that the QUVL have taken a "back-step" it’s doubly important that we keep an eye on things and report problems like this, otherwise they’ll be ignored.
You have every right to complain and no need to apologise.

Thanks
Any idea who can I complain to? Bryant office to start with? Who else. Of course nothing it will be done (they won’t destroy the road a put the pavement just to make me happy), but I hope … I don’t even know what I hope

It’s pretty desperate right now, what with the QUVL taking such a step back and all but we (The Residents Association) will at least make sure it isn’t ignored or forgotten…
I’ll ask Richard to add it to his ever-growing list of issues to be monitored / pursued.
I agree – visiting / contacting Bryant couldn’t hurt.

Hi Claudia,
I completly agree with you, THEY HAVE LAYED THE WRONG TARMAC!!!!!!
They were supposed to lay some fancy tarmarc with stones embedded, but typical of Bryant Homes (Taylor Wimpey), This is another bodge it and scarper job! It kind of really does finish off the development to their “very high standards” that ‘we’ have all become accustomed too!
(
However this isn’t really a QUVL thing, it’s a bryant thing completely. Rest assured complaining about this is also on my list! as i have a few unfinsished items with them! (The list is ever growing)

Thanks a lot for your reply, it was really interesting! But what can it be done? I feel like these are only words hanging in the air. Can we really do something to make a difference? (Maybe I am looking for a super hero
)

Seems to me as though this is yet another situation where the boundries are changing because the developers dont want to spend the cash and provide what many of us signed up for! They have very little regard for us residents already living here. Darrjeff and Claudia – I agree with your comments entirely but as you say, very little is likely to be done despite the best efforts of the Residents Association. Its a real shame.

Hi Claudia,
I have spoken to Bryant regarding the surfacing of the road down Marham Drive, and they have assured me that this is completely to specification. The plans at the sales office have this information on them and they were supposed to go through all of this with you when you reserved your property (When they covered things like Door colour etc).
I think the sales office them selves got confused and assumed it was embedded stones, but it was just a fancy name for black tarmac.
There is absolutley nothing that can be done about changing the tarmac, as this was always the original plan and is not a cost cutting measure.
I’m sure when thatcham avenue is completed it will all look very nice.
If you have any problems talking to Kevin (the Project Manager) or customer support (who are all VERY nice) i’m sure they can help resolve any problems you have.

Hi Folks,
Richard Read (Residents Association) went to take a look at this last night and dropped me an email which pretty-much echoed exactly what G Note has said.

Hi all,
My name is Kevin Lomax and I am the Project manager for Bryant (Taylor Wimpey).
I would like to comment on some of the issues raised and will gladly meet with any Bryant customer who has a genuine issue, to discuss it in a professional manner.
Firstly there are no pavements on Marham drive at all, it is designed as Homezone (a planning requirement).
The same applies to the type of finish ie: tarmac/paving.
This is all agreed with the planners prior to site start and I cannot alter it.
I cannot agree with the comments regarding the cost cutting. Taylor Wimpey have continued to complete the road surface to Marham Drive when others have not.
I have no control over Thatcham Avenue roads or footpaths.
Finally I can assure you that I am committed to customer service and if anyone (Bryant customer) has genuine issues that they wish to discuss, please call me on 07816517543 Mon- Fri 8-4.30
Many Thanks,
Kevin.

Hi Kevin,
Many thanks for joining us and commenting on this issue
It’s great to hear that Bryant are still committed to continued customer service, particularly at a time when so many are seemingly “jumping ship”!
For the record my house is a Bryant / Taylor Wimey house and it’s fabulous!
Thanks again,
Clive.

Hi,
I moved into Marham Drive a couple of months ago and I can’t begin to tell you how happy my family and I are.
We love our new home and the customer service we have received from Bryant, from beginning to end, has been brilliant.
I don’t mind the finish on the road – I’m just glad to have got rid of all the potholes etc!
Kingsway has the potential to be a fantastic village – we’re looking forward to the amenities etc. that have been promised for the future….
Does anyone know exactly what has been planned? And whether these plans are still going ahead in light of the current financial situation? Is it true that there will be a supermarket on the development at some stage?
December 4th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Hi Rebecca,
Thanks for joining in
The plans were available on the developers website (see menu / link / QUVL); not sure if they still are.
There are plans for a supermarket (last rumoured to be Sainsburys) and other shops (as well as a Pub’, youth activity area, health centre etc)… These things may be delayed owing to the "slow down" in the development, but we will get them eventually.
As soon as I get some firm info’ about the schedule I’ll post it
Glad you like it here… We love it too
