A Rare Jewell
Created by Baz_kThis morning I finally made contact with Alistair Jewell, the new Project Manager at QUVL.
I expressed concern that we seem to have been left out in the cold, the Village seems to be deteriorating and is not being looked after as promised.
Specifically, I raised concerns about the grass cutting not happening; he acknowledged the problem and said that the company responsible was not doing what was asked and has had their contract terminated. A new company – Charlon Abbott (I think) – has been engaged, and should be getting on the ball and will regularly maintain it.
Secondly the advertising board on Thatcham that has been broken for a number of weeks, will be repaired.
We will be getting an on-site manager (a chap called Andrew Smith) in the near-term, to sit – as Andy Hunter did – locally, act as an interface and manage local issues.
In the meantime, I wish to collate as many issues that are outstanding now to send as a baseline to them, so please send any issues that are infrastructure related, or that QUVL are responsible for (Editors Note: See developers page for details of QUVL areas of responsibility) and I will add them to the list.
You can add them by commenting here, or email me: mrbpkirby@hotmail.com and I will get them going.
Let’s hope we can get the momentum going that we had previously and then step it up a gear!
Cheers
Barry

Hi Baz,
Glad to hear he’s responded.
I have had one or two emails from him (having been copied in on a conversation between Shane, Alistair and Fraser Mackie regarding the emergency vehicle transponders).
I haven’t made any attempt to contact him myself yet (I was snowed under during the holidays finishing a business contract and have had very little time for anything else)!
You can start by looking at my rant about double-yellow lines and car-clamping / unrefunded fines – detailed here where I said:

Barry, Clive,
Do you kow the boundaries of responsibility between Trinity Estate Management and QUVL? I’d like to know where my additonal 300 quid per year is going and what Trinity’s clear responsibilities are.
Cheers
Dave

AFAIK Trinity is responsible for all the bits within the Laing Homes plot. IE everything back from Thatcham Ave to the school road, all the smaller open areas and the bricked roads.
However, I think they are a waste of space and I really resent my money going to them. I would love to know more about our legal rights with regard to them.
In case you didn’t realise, Trinity is owned by George Wimpey (suprise suprise)! Given that, they may be responsible for more builders plots that are owned by Taylor Wimpey, but I don’t know.

Everything that was brought up in PC Frasers report on hhere as far as i am concerned, with my biggest gripe being
1/ VERY poor Road signage as well as construction of signs (Cheap plastic)
2/ Leeming WLK (note the word Walk) being used as a drive through
3/ General state of grass verges, pavements, knocked down walls, fences need i go on?
4/ The Matalan Underpass
um um um how much time you got

Well, my plan is to get our old list and audit it then add the current issues to it that are listed here and what had been emailed to me, and send it off, probably at the end of this week. So if I don’t know about it, and therefore QUVL don’t know about it, then nothing will be done about it.
Just to qualify, this will only deal with what is in QUVLs power, IE the broken wall is not in their domain. That is a private issue. Also, what do you expect QUVL to do about Leeming Walk, that is not their fault, that is the community using/abusing it, how we deal with that, Im not sure, but it involves talking to neighbours!

Oh, Clive, forgot to mention, your much better at titles than I am

Hi Baz. Re: Leeming Walk QUVL has managed to put steel padlocked barriers everywhere else on Kingsway, often where not required (next to Kingsway school for example) so I fail to understand why a similar approach has not been adopted on Leeming “Walk”
QUVL has been aware of many many issues for in excess of 2 years from myself but to date have been ignored, one prays that Alistair has answers as well as a large cheque book now that the housing market is improving.
Kingsway IS A nice place to live and is actually quite pretty for a modern day housing estate, however QUVL needs to take responsibility for the many pending issues in order to restore faith in them.

This isn’t 100% related (and my first post, so go easy!) but does anyone know what the deal is with the local centre / doctor’s surgery / pub and so on? It all seems to have gone really quiet about that, despite my developer telling me it should be opening “soon” (no chance of that)!
Also, parking on Thatcham can be a real nightmare to get around, especially around the top of Marham Drive where it’s not uncommon to have two parked cars on either side of the top of the Drive and a row of parked cars opposite – really tight and narrow and an accident waiting to happen, that. There’s double-yellow lines there – though they don’t seem to be enforced

Hi Graham,
Thanks for joining, and contributing
Re – Local amenities (shops and surgery etc): Last I heard, building was due to commence this autumn and would be completed in the spring (but that was a while ago so I wouldn’t be suprised if things have changed since then).
Re – parking: It’s still a major issue for much of Kingsway and the approach by the QUVL (or their parking enforcement company) isn’t helping at all… This is undoubtedly one of the things we need to sit and talk to them about to see if we can come up with plan that stops irresponsible parking but allows some leeway for folks to be able to live here (not to mention having visitors)

Hi Clive – thanks for the welcome and the reply
Seems things are going to slowly start plodding forward with regard to the facilities then, let’s keep everything crossed!
As far as parking goes, it’s hard to know what to do really – I can see QUVL’s dilemma. I live on Marham Drive, which is windy and twisty at the best of times, and when people also park antisocially on top of that it can mean going around corners blind and dead slow, just in case.
I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that I’d hate to hit someone’s cat in a car, let alone a child running across the road to get to one of the grassy areas to play football .. just hope something’s thought up before anything bad happens. It’s a shame people don’t stop and think for a moment before dumping their cars on corners or in other weird locations just to save them walking for an extra 10 feet!

The problem with Marham Drive is those people that park their cars at the top of the drive literaly cannot be bothered to use their garage. Plain and simple. We’ve all asked them to be more considerate, you just get a mouth full back at you. I’m waiting for the developer to get back to me on this issue, as it’s them who have created this problem. Personnaly a few clamps here and there at the enterance should soon sort that out!

I’m hoping to put the list to QUVL on Monday, but the list is looking a bit sparce at the moment, and givent he other discussions on here, I can’t believe everybody is happy!
Please put your issues down here, or email to me at the above address!

grahamc, You’re welcome
Yep, parking continues to enrage many of us (see here for more on that subject)
G Note, agreed… The issue is certainly one which the developers need to address.
Baz_k, If you’re actually meeting with Alistair on Monday, I’d be real interested in accompanying you (as would Shane I imagine).
For a larger list, take a look at this post and – to add something I keep getting asked about – Since we now have a postbox, is there any chance of getting a public telephone box installed somewhere? (Some folks have to walk to Tesco’s in order to make a ‘phone call)!
Oh – and:
I dunno… I thought that Who stole my rudder? was pretty impressive

I spoke to george wimpey last Monday on all the issues regarding the lack og ground maintenance and they spoke to Mr Jewel, this poor condition of the area has also been made aware to the MD of George Wimpey Bristol.
George Wimpey did repiar the kerb stone on Thatcham Avenue on this week on behalf of QVLC, if anyone want Wimpey to do any work go straight to Fiona the customer Services manager and Tim the MD.
On the subject of bad parking, this weekend has seen several near misses along the two junction by Miller Homes, one of these involved kids only just being missed!
QVLC need to put back the double yellow lines that have come off before this becomes a major accident, I have also let the HSE know as I have requested these lines to go back for many months to both QVLC and George Wimpey.
They have a duty of care as they the devlopers are still responsible for our safety.
It would also be nie to know when the shops and pub will get underway and what can be done to further block the road to knowwhere over to Tuffley to stop the teenagers on the scooters.
QVLC also need to get the ohone numbers on there web site sorted as they dont work.
On a good side Wimpey have agreed to reduce the number of flag poles along Thatcham avenue, woul be good if Miller Homes did as well to cut down the noise on windy nights.

Did anything ever come of this?
I notice yet another sign/advertising board has fallen down on Thatcham now and it’s starting to look a real mess. It’s a real shame the people responsible for keeping things like that well-maintained aren’t doing so

Hi grahamc,
I haven’t heard back from baz_k about it yet. I think he said he was going to be busy this week, so we may have to wait a while to hear.
I agree it is getting pretty ridiculous
