  1. Barry Kirby Says:

We will also be discussing building progress, the County Council boundary review, the Bus Consultation as well as upcoming local events.
    All Residents welcome.

  2. KEVGEE Says:

    Good evening,

Sorry I was unable to attend last night, I was looking forward to attending.

I’m very much looking forward to reading the minutes, and I hope that the residents put the Citizen’s Editor through his paces!

Hopefully I can attend the next meeting.

  3. CandG Says:

    Barry,
Do you know when/if there will be a Youth Residents meeting? Both my oldest boys would like to get involved and I am sure my youngest son (currently at boarding school) will join in too.
We enjoyed the meeting (our first time), especially the QUVL guy (Andy I think?) and the information he provided.
Can you tell me if there is a Kingsway map of all the roads and their names and also what will be built on site, ie: the amenities, play areas, football pitches etc etc. I don’t know many of the road names throughout the estate (even some of the ones near my road as there are no road signs)!

  4. Barry Kirby Says:

    Hiya,

The Youth Meeting was a great idea and I will be following it up, trying to think of the best format.

I’m pleased you enjoyed the meeting, the main aim is to try and bring information to us residents and where possible hold people to account, and largely that works. But if folks have suggestions for guest speakers, then I’ll see what I can do.

If you’re on Facebook, I have a map on there with street names, but I don’t have an online plan with all the amenities, will see what I can do.

Will keep informed as regards the youth side of things.

    Cheers

    Barry

    Hi CandG,

There are some maps on our Kingsway Maps page. I don’t know how up-to-date they are but the 2010 one was quite comprehensive.

The last set of plans I have are on our Kingsway Developers page, (the 2nd of the two plans).

  6. Clive Says:

    Hi Folks,

The minutes for the (31/05) RA Meeting have been published.

    Hi Clive
We couldn’t make it to the last meeting due to illness, its the 1st one we have missed since moving here! its sounds like it was a interesting one as well!
Just a couple of questions regarding the meeting. I was talking to the people in the chemist, and they told me they are not moving into the shops until September now, but in the minutes it says July, which one is correct?
Does anybody know what is going to be built on the land where the chemist is at present?
    Sam

  8. Barry Kirby Says:

    Hi Sam-den
I think Andy (QUVL) said that the local centre should be ready by July (we were particularly pushing about road access on the new road). so it may be that the chemist will take some time to get moved in? I will chase it up and see why.

    Cheers
    Barry

Barry you say in the minutes that ASB is not a problem at Kingsway and is negative reporting by the Citizen Newspaper. But the minutes do mention 10 local burglaries in (around) 7 days were the work of a recently released offender. I just wonder was he placed in Kingsway by a Housing Assocation? Plus another cause of ASB had been two local families were constantly “at war”, one had to be moved and they had to sign a “Neighbour Agreement” by their Housing Association landlord.
Plus there are now 4 Community Police officers are now patrolling Kingsway. It does not seem things are getting better.

  10. Clive Says:

    Hi darrjeff,

Nobody said the burglar lived in Kingsway (he didn’t)!

The two families were calling Police and reporting each other for such behaviour as “stepping on my lawn”! All such calls are allocated incident numbers and included in local crime statistics; thus the statistics for crime in Kingsway were artificially inflated.
The purpose of the Housing Association “Good Neighbour Agreement” is to both stop such behaviour and give the Housing Association leverage in the event that it continues.

Increasing the number of Community Police Officers – in line with the growing population – is a positive thing.

    Things are definitely better:

"…the subsequent level of complaints has been vastly reduced."

  11. vintec Says:

I agree with Clive – more Police – then better area we are going to have

  12. Barry Kirby Says:

    Hi

I have got some clarification about the discrepancies between the dates for the Local Centre. It seems that the Building will be finished by the end of July, for businesses to move into, and then they need some time to fit their shops out, hence where the September date has come from.

Darjeff – I have not said that ASB is not a problem in Kingsway, that is clearly not the case. What I have said that ASB is not especially worse in Kingsway than anywhere else. The press have had a distinct hand in not showing a balanced view of life in Kingsway and that is why I asked Ian Mean to come to the meeting, and I think it was a very useful and productive session.

The other reason why I think the sensationalist coverage was bad is that for those people who are suffering ASB, it can look like it’s a small part of a large problem, and not such a serious problem in it’s own right.

The fact that we have asked the Police to target specific ASB “hotspots” such as the parks is also a sign that we take it seriously.

The Police have also made the effort to respond to the public perception issue by ensuring people feel safe by having more Police and PCSO’s present in Kingsway. I think that is a good thing and as one of the things people cry out for is to see more Police on the beat in their communities, we now have this and they are all very keen in getting involved in our community.

    Cheers
    Barry

    Hi Barry,

Do you know what will be going on the land where the Chemist is at the moment, and the other peace of land on the other side of the road on Thatcham Ave’?

    Sam

  14. Barry Kirby Says:

    Hi Sam
Where the Chemist is I believe is earmarked for the Doctors Surgery (Which is earmarked at 2000 house sales) and the otherside is potentially the “place of worship” should it be taken up (there are discussions ongoing at the moment about it).

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers
    Barry

  15. sam-den Says:

    Hi Barry
Thank you for you for letting me know.

    Sam

  16. Den Says:

    Thatcham Avenue Resurfacing
I have just read the minutes of the last KRA and there is no mention of when Thatcham Avenue is likely to be resurfaced and at the meeting of the KRA back in May Andy reported that Thatcham Avenue would be resurfaced this October, can anyone advise whether the resurfacing is still on target for October?

  17. Clive Says:

    Hi Den,

Sadly Andy Smith wasn’t at the last meeting (on holiday apparently), but Baz is due to meet him and “catch up” on outstanding issues one day soon, so hopefully he will have an update (although I’d bet I can guess the answer)!

  18. Den Says:

    Resurfacing of Thatcham Avenue
    Hello Clive

Disappointed that Andy never attended the last KRA meeting, not as though he didnt have plenty of notice. As you say will wait for an update to be posted. Den

  19. Clive Says:

    Hi Den,

Yes it was a shame, (although – like I said – he was apparently on holiday that week)!
Baz has posted the results of his meeting (here), ‘though sadly no mention of Thatcham Avenue, so (as you can see) I’ve just asked him to clarify if it was mentioned.
