Kingsway Business Forum

February 24th, 2012 by Barry Kirby

Given that there are a growing number of small businesses being run out of Kingsway, and probably more medium-sized when more of the Business Park comes online, it seems that there is a lot of opportunity for local businesses to work together as a Business Community.

It has been suggested that it may be beneficial to have a Business Forum where we could get together and provide a forum for networking, socialising, passing on best practices etc.

In setting up my own business during the past couple of months, I’m pleased to have been able to get so much of my “supplier services” from within Kingsway, and Gloucester in general, and this type of forum could also strive to achieve more of this type of thing.

What do people think, would this be a valuable forum, would you be willing to give it a go?

Cheers,
Barry

Walking to Severnvale School

February 24th, 2012 by LOUISEJOANNE40

Hi,

I am new to Kingsway, having just purchased a new-build, due for completion mid-May.
I regret I am having to take my daughter out of her current secondary school and will be seeking a place at Severn Vale school due to our move from Bristol.
The new homes agent has told us the SevernVale school is within walking distance of our new home, but I am not sure how safe it will be for an 11 year old to walk to school.
Are there any other children who take the walk to SevernVale and back? Is it possible my daughter could join a group of year 7′s on her walk to school?

I really have no idea if there will be any other year 7 Severnvale students in our neighbourhood. It would be nice for my daughter to have a few buddies living near our new home.
I hate having to drag her away from her friends here in Bristol, but we have no choice and I am really hoping she will be able to make some new friends fairly soon after we move in!

Hunts Grove Extension

February 18th, 2012 by barker77

Hi All,

Stroud District Council have just announced their plans to build a further 3000 homes in the Stroud district.

Some of these homes are planned to be built on an extension to the Hunts Grove estate in Hardwicke (just the other side of the Waterwells Business Park).

Should you wish to voice your opinion on this proposal, you can take part in the online consultation – here.

Councillor Barbara Tait has said: "Officers will decipher the responses and decide what the next step is", and "Obviously we then go to the inspector who will have a look at how we’ve got to the results and make his decision as to whether this goes through or not".

More information is available at BBC News Gloucestershire.

Signage

February 16th, 2012 by themanfromdumont

There are an ever increasing number of signs that seem to be popping up on every available mesh fence or lamppost in the area. It cheapens the whole look of the development. The worst area is at the traffic lights at the A38 junction.

Now even the Police are getting involved placing warning notices everywhere. I am sure people know to remove valuables from their vehicles, they don’t need posters everywhere reinforcing the belief that Kingsway is hell.

They need to be removed ASAP.

You buy your home, the value is reduced due to two warring families and headlines from The Citizen wipe a few more thousand off; now the Police want to ensure that no-one will ever want to buy and settle in Kingsway! Absolutely ridiculous and very counter-productive.

Asda Public Consultation

February 12th, 2012 by lou lou 27

So did anyone attend the consultation layed on by Robert Hitchins and Asda?

We went across this morning for a look and I have to say, the plans don’t look to bad at all. Now I know it is well documented that I support a supermarket in Kingsway, so I asked a lot of questions to the team there, many of those questions were ones that were raised during the last debate about us having a supermarket here.

The design of the building itself looks well thought through and would fit in with the enviroment in which it would be built if planning is given, trees will be planted along the edge of the carpark, these would eventually “hide” the store from those residents who look directly across from it. The building is only going to be a third of the size of the one currently in Gloucester, it is not going to be a huge white blot on the landscape like Tesco’s.

I raised concerns regarding traffic issues and the A38, I was shown expected times of delivery for the store, they explained how it would not be all articulated lorries coming into Asda for deliveries, so noise should be kept to a minimum. Special fences would be erected again to minimise noise, deliveries should not occur during peak times of usage on the A38. If however this was to become an issue then the store would take comments and do their best to change anything that has become a problem for residents. The aim of this store is to be a local store mainly for the use of residents, the expectation of usage from people far and wide is low.

If planning is given then the store would look to be opening by Autumn 2013, thus meaning that Woodvale/Naas Lane road would also be open for residents to use (albeit 2 years after we were promised it would open)!

All in all I was impressed by the team, they listened to our concerns, they took onboard that not everyone would be supportive of the idea, but as of 10.30 this morning, they had received no negativity towards the development.

So have peoples perceptions changed? Those who opposed the idea, did you go and see the plans, do you still feel the same way?

Going back to a comment I made on the other Asda post about Tesco Quedgeley not coping with the amount of people who use their store, last week I went into Tesco on a Saturday afternoon and most of the fresh produce aisles were empty. I left without half of what I was intending on buying. I complained to Tesco’s and was duly sent compensation for my disappointment. For a Tesco Extra store not to be fully stocked over a weekend with potential delivery not until Monday morning is not good, I am not saying Asda would be any better or worse, but the option of choice of location for the weekly shop would be appreciated.
