Launch of Severn FM

November 30th, 2011 by Barry Kirby

Hi All,

Just to let you know that Severn FM, our local community radio station will be going live on FM (87.9) this Saturday morning at 7am. Give it a listen and tell us what you think.

Moreover, if you want to get involved, please give me a shout, even if you just want to have a go at being in the studio, or just sit in a program. The idea is that it is a resource of our community to use and make the most of.

The Official launch will be at 10am on Saturday with the ribbon being cut by Neil Carmichael MP. If you want to come and see what we have done, then come to the studios at the Old School House in Hardwicke.

Tune in and tell us what you think, and what would you like to hear?

Wildlife in Kingsway

November 25th, 2011 by Jack

I moved into my house a few months ago and they are just finishing off the last houses in our cul-de-sac. The building work has, of course, frightened away all wildlife from the area, with the exception of the odd Magpie.

I was wondering if any of Kingsway’s more seasoned residents have had any success attracting wild birds and other wildlife to their gardens? Assuming some of you have had success, how long did it take for wildlife to start to move back in.

It’s all a bit eerie without any bird song in the background!

Constant Litter Problem

November 25th, 2011 by ihatetramps

Is it just me or have any other residents been disgusted by the constant litter being thrown on the floor daily outside and all around the new Tesco Express store and the other units in the new local centre?

The reputation of Kingsway is bad enough already without inconsiderate people continuing to spoil the area for the decent hard working people that actually live here. To me it just reinforces the stereotype that some people who rent houses don’t give a damn about where they live, which in turn makes people who have bought properties like myself regret it as normal people I think, don’t wish to live amongst rubbish!

There is no excuse for it at all. There are ample bins on the parade outside of the shops, so really it’s just a matter of laziness, ignorance and complete disrespect to residents who want to live in a nice, tidy area.

To visitors it just helps confirm the stories, rightly or wrongly, that they have heard about Kingsway. As someone who has lived in a lot of areas around the city over 40 years, it’s the worst I have seen. Since I moved here, some people’s reaction when I tell them that I have bought in Kingsway is to laugh! So now I just say Quedgeley. No wonder the house prices are so low here when these people continue to make the place look such a mess. So hopefully most of you will agree with my point and the Residents Association should look into trying to sort this problem out, and make the estate a bit more pleasant for everyone, owners and renters, and help change the reputation of our village.

Frank Butcher Cars?

November 23rd, 2011 by lja

I see another used car has turned up for sale, just off the Woodvale roundabout.

When we asked for another roundabout feature, I didn’t expect a different car every four weeks.

I haven’t checked personally whether it is the same telephone number as the last 6 cars that have been up for sale there in the past twelve months. I wonder if someone else knows?

Are they taxed? Insured? Is the owner aware that he is only legally allowed to sell two cars per year from the same stretch of road?

Now I’m all for making a bit of profit in this world, as long as it is done legally.
How about Mr Butcher applies for some land on the Kingsway site and sets up a dealership? That way he gives something back to the estate in way of revenue from rates, etc… and residents can be assured that they are getting a quality, roadworthy, legal vehicle, from a quality establishment.

Where are the Trees?

November 23rd, 2011 by MS PC Repairs

I moved to Kingsway almost four years ago living in Marham Drive. I had a lovely view looking over the largest pond in Marham Drive and a Great view of Robinswood Hill and the surrounding hills and valleys. A lot of that view has now been replaced by recent building and new homes. I didn’t mind this too much as it was expected and I knew there would be homes there sometime.

I now wake up today only to see that some bright spark has decided to cut down all the trees and hedging that provided a lovely screen between Marham Drive and Tuffley. I now have a beautiful line of sight right into other peoples back gardens and windows with their broken down sheds and dirty greenhouses. I am sure the people living in these houses would rather we couldn’t look into their homes too.

Who is responsible for this scarring of the local area? Why have trees been planted around the pond only to cut twice as many down a few months later. I don’t mind a road linking Kingsway with Tuffley but did we really want this ugly view into all of the back gardens belonging to our neighbours. I am very disappointed. Now when I look out of my window and see that the once tranquil natural view has been replaced with old sheds and messy back gardens I would rather just close my curtains again.

I would like to extend my thanks to whoever decided to do this. At least now we will be able to see the Tuffley residents that have huge street arguments during the early hours of the morning instead of just hearing them. Yet another very poor decision taken by the powers that be. I knew trees lose their leaves at this time of year but for whole trees to disappear that’s just wrong.

Kingsway public Meeting and AGM 22nd Nov 1930h

November 21st, 2011 by Barry Kirby

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder about the Public meeting on Tuesday.
1930h at South West Snooker Academy (please note change of venue)

Agenda is as follows:
i. Introduction (BK)
ii. South West Snooker presentation
iii. Review of past year and New committee for 2012 (BK)
iv. Kingsway Interaction Network presentation
v. QUVL Update
vi. Police Update
vii. Wrap up (BK)

The South West Snooker Academy is just down from the Community Centre, but has better parking and is a bit of an experiment in providing a better facility for the meeting, even though its slightly further away. We will post signage and have people along the route to ensure no-one gets lost.

We have had a number of nominations for the committee, but not quite enough to trigger an election so you will meet your new committee members.

Cheers,
Barry
