Travellers in Kingsway
Created by PaulWell I’m fairly surprised it has taken this long, given the amount of large green space there is in Kingsway, but travellers have finally set themselves a pitch at the entrance to the village.
They’ve set up camp behind the flags, but I couldn’t see whether they were behind the fence or not.
They weren’t there when we popped out at 6:30 but when we got back just before 11pm there are plenty of caravans. It struck me as odd the fact that there were loads of parked cars next to the Woodvale blockade when we went out.
Who’s responsibility is it to move these people on: QUVL or Gloucester Council?

I noticed tonight that travellers have moved into Kingsway. Make sure everything is nailed down and locked… You have been warned!

Hi All,
I have had a number of messages regarding the Travellers that seem to have taken residence on the entrance to Kingsway.
The Police and the City Council, QUVL and Robert Hitchins Ltd are now aware of the issue, ‘though I am not sure at this stage of what can be done. As it is unadopted, then it is probably more in the hands of Robert Hitchins Ltd as the landowner to deal with in terms of eviction.
I hope we see a swift resolution! If anyone runs into any issues because of the situation, then please do make people aware.

Unfortunately the Police can do nothing as the travellers are tresspassing and trespass is not a criminal offence, it is a civil matter for the owners of the land.
What’s the problem with them anyway? They are hard working, clean living, honest tax paying citizens who would not dream of stealing from you and always leave the areas they frequent clean and tidy.
(That by the way is sarcasm in case anyone thought I was serious)!

Sorry folks my crystal ball has spoken… Thatcham surfacing delayed due to travellers encampent… further reports to state, we were on schedule, but even concerted efforts took this out of our control.

It’s not an ideal situation… I do wonder how they managed to get onto the land with their vehicles and caravans in the first place!
They parked up (not sure if it is the same people though) earlier this year on the business site beside this blocked off area and only stayed for a few days… Hopefully once the road is opened this problem won’t happen again. As for anyone selling their homes it isn’t the “ideal sight” to see when entering the village.

They’re parked up right beside Bar Bar Nursery which my 3 yr old attends, I find this very scary and am not impressed. This, as far as I know is private land that our so called Council are buying, if they actually got there act together and actually got on with it the road would be open and the gypsies wouldn’t be there.

Oh nono you are naughty with your comments (only jesting).
Well what does one expect? Leave what could be a useful road for many blocked off/unused and some folk will exploit this. Like others elsewhere on this website, fed up with the usual excuses from QUVL & Developers. Hope the powers that be sort this issue out soon and the travellers move onto a more appropriate site.

RE crystal ball, it did say authentic when purchased, dang I did get mugged. Anyways further information reveals they (the travellers) were invited to quote on surfacing Thatcham Ave’ & surrounding areas. They (the travellers) were told quotes to be submitted by July 2014.

So who gets to clean up after these travellers, including the numerous bin bags spread across the place and other items such as duvet’s and whatever else they felt like discarding? Am not sure they will pay for it…

Informal Settlers Near the M5 junction
I have noticed there is a small group of travellers who have moved into the grassy area next to the motorway.
I have also noticed a few unfamiliar faces around the area (I understand there are people moving in all the time).
Upon speaking to the Barratt Home Security company, it seems that the lead was stolen off the windows on their new show home. This is slightly worring as this is meant to be a safer area.
Is there something we can do to speed the process of moving them to their next location?
