Roaming Dog

Created by simost

Has anyone got (or rather is repeatedly losing) a white Alsatian or German Shepherd style dog?

Late each evening for the last week, a stray (with a collar) appears in the Thatcham Ave’ / Mount Pleasant area, with no owner in site!

If this is your dog, perhaps you could re-think his/her well-being in the evenings, how you control and contain it as well as the safety of pedestrians walking about the area!
Uncontrolled large dogs at night can be a bit daunting.

This could be an item for reporting to the Council stray Dog Wardens.

Thanks

P

On a dog related topic has anyone seen a big white dog wondering round the village?

I’ve seen this same dog three times now, once a couple of weeks ago in the evening crossing the road by the postbox (I thought I was seeing things) and put it down to perhaps the owner being ahead of it. The second time was early one Sunday morning on the empty land near the Tuffley link and then again this evening just off Thatcham Avenue!

There is no owner I can see of anywhere near so just wanted some reassurance that I’m really not imagining it! :?

Yes we have seen a large white dog too, around the tree picking up scraps by Mount Pleasant. I have phoned the Council as I was concerned that a large dog like this woudn’t last very long on the streets if he was stray as they need so much food etc. The Council said that their dog warden doesn’t work nights (we have only seen him quite late at night) but they said that if we saw him during the daytime (before 4 o clock) to phone Glos Council (Tel: 396396 and ask for Jan) and they would send a dog warden out to pick him up.
So if anyone does see this stray during the day can they please call to get him picked up. It’s such a shame if he has been dumped.

Yep, the above comments were posted (dates as shown) in our general questions & comments section (so I’ve moved them here).

Appears attempts to catch the thing last night failed…

Saw the large white dog at about 1pm this morning, in the ditch that crosses Thatcham Avenue; it then made its way back through Mildenhall.

    Re: The stray dog:
I have been in touch with the Council again this morning.
Apparently the Neighbourhood Management Service Team are aware of this dog but are having real problems locating it!
If anyone see’s the dog in a morning (when they can send a Dog Warden to pick him up and take him to Cheltenham Animal Shelter) please call Glos Council on 396396 and they will contact the team to come out straight away to pick him up.
They can’t come out at night and this is the only time we seem to see him around our house but if anyone sees him from 8.30 onwards in a morning can they call please, as the more info about his whereabouts during daytime they have, the more chance they have of locating him.

    Thanks.

Good News folks: The stray white dog was picked up last night and is now at Cheltenham Animal Shelter!
Well done to those teenages that befriended the dog and helped the dog wardens locate her. It’s good to know that there are so many nice people on Kingsway. I know a lot of neighbours have been concerned about her too.
I phoned Cheltenham Animal Shelter this morning, they say she is OK and they have called her Cally.
Just thought everone would like to know… let’s all hope she finds a lovely new home :D
