Internet Problems
Created by potatoPeteIs anybody in Kingsway experiencing internet problems?
I live in Marham Drive and use BT for the ‘phone line and Virgin for the internet; problems occur such as disconnecting for long periods, disconnecting and reconnecting within a few minutes, slow speeds and so on, particularly during the early morning (8.30am onwards).
This happened about two months ago during the heavy rain and I decided not to call my providers; it was really bad during this time and you could barely get online, but it’s happening again (not as bad as before), so I called them yesterday and they tell me nothing is wrong! Of course it’s never their fault and it must be my hardware, which I know full well it’s not because I have tested it! By the way both companies Customer Support is appalling, especially BT.
However I did notice on the BT website, that Hardwicke was having line problems, which had supposedly been fixed – it had affected all numbers with 01452 in the area. The BT person failed to tell me this.
So, I was just wondering if anybody else (especially in Marham Drive) was having a problem and who they were using?

Morning All,
YES… We have encountered repeated disconnection/re-connection many times throughout many days – equally constantly having wireless connection lost or needing resetting many times a day too!
BT are a waste of time throughout their “Customer Services” but as I have indicated previously, and will provide you again here this morning – you may want to air your frustrations at the right person (s) within the company…

I have not had any experience of problems with our internet connection. We also live in Marham Drive. I must admit though we use Talk Talk and do not use the router they supplied. We have a Belkin router and a Netgear repeater for outside coverage.
It is known however that BT routers do tend to clog up during busy traffic periods.
Changing the channel on your router settings may help this. Many people tend to think channels 1 to 5 are the best so most people use them. When many wifi connections in close proximity are running on the same channel this can cause problems. I believe the BT home hub is intelligent and switches channels automatically but cannot be sure.
Here you can see more information about changing your channel and there is a link to download a program called “inSSIDer utility”, a free program that will scan all of your neighbours wifi signals and tell you which channel they are using. This will help you decide what channel best suits you.
There are a lot of discussion forums on the internet that can help you create a more reliable network.
Apart from doing the best you can with your router provided by your ISP, there is not much else for it except upgrading your router for a more expensive one.
I hope this has helped someone.
