Accident Waiting to Happen

Created by sam-den

Does anybody else have a problem with the building materials being stored at the top of Thatcham ave? None of it is fenced off safely, and it is quickly becoming a childrens playground!

My husband has been on to QUVL, who told him that it is Persimmon Homes who are using the land, and they have been asked twice to move their materials!

We believe this is "an accident waiting to happen" and something has to be done to get it all moved to a safer area where it should be, before a child is seriously hurt.

Editors Note: Following the discussion (below) KEVGEE furnished me with a set of "Before & After Pic’s" which I’ve included in this gallery: Persimmon Building Site

I imagine people from Kingsway will find it no problem. After all they might find a use for it themselves.

I believe something would be said if a child is hurt, and I don’t want to see that happen.

We live near to this area which is now becoming an eyesore as well as a battleground. We believe that the builders have been asked to fence this off, so the kids can`t play on it over the summer holidays. Part of this has been done but they don`t seem to have fenced off the rubble area, leaving broken roof tiles, broken paving slabs, gravel and other hardcore free for people to throw around, which has been happening as we have found debris thrown across the road close to our property on several occasions.
There are several vehicles parked close by and property windows exposed to this area.
So how long is it before property gets broken or damaged?
So yes we would find this a problem, even though it might helpful in some ways but if it comes to property damage or injury then I would like to see the whole area fenced off, or even better, totally cleared (I know I’m probably wishing too much on that one)!
It would be nice if we were able to speak to the site manager about this but he is unapproachable and I feel he wouldn’t listen anyway.

I agree, it is an eyesore! We would of thought twice before we bought our house if we had known that Persimmons were going to use that area as a dumping ground! It is not fenced off properly and it is not secure.
I know we are living on a on building site but all the other housing companies seem to have their building materials where they should be, not on a piece of waste ground, where they have been told to move it from on more than one ocassion (so we have been told).
I am waiting for a response from QUVL about this matter again, as we also feel that the site manager of Persimmons is unapproachable!

    Hi sam-den,

Well I’m glad you feel the same way about the site manager! We were starting to feel it was only us who felt that way.
I think that it’s going to take a call or email to Persimmon’s Customer Services Manager again as I have had dealings with them with reference to the Site Manager before.
I will let you know how I get on.

    Hi kevgee

I called into the sales office yesterday, they were very helpful, and have asked if we can give them 48 hours to try and sort it out. They said Health and Safety are coming this week, I think they will have a field day if they see that! I am going back into see them on Thursday afternoon, I will let you know what is said.

They have said that it will be sorted but don’t know when!
So lets wait and see shall we.

    Hi all,
Well i must say the area is looking alot better this evening.
    Hopefully it stay`s this way!!!
It would`ve been nice if it could have all been moved but we can`t have everything
    can we?
We just wanted a safer place for the children and thats the main thing.

    Thank you to all concerned.

    Hi
Things do look a lot better.
Just wanted to thank Persimmon Homes for doing what they said they would.

    Thank you

KEVGEE sent me the pictures as promised and also followed up with a new set following the clearance, so I’ve created a gallery of "Before & After Pic’s" of the Persimmon Building Site (which I’ve also linked from the original post above).

Looks like they did a great job; (the only person who’s disappointed is my wife who wanted the bricks to build a garden path)

Thanks to you all for getting this sorted and for sending the pic’s :D

    Clive
