The Big Lunch 19th July

Created by Baz_k

There is a national campaign for the “Big Lunch” on the 19th July.

The concept is simple, you get together with your neighbours and have lunch! What I am suggesting is this could be an ideal event for us Kingsway folks to get to know each other a bit better.

So how about using this event to host a Kingsway Picnic? Everybody brings their picnic to the big area beside the big park and have a shared lunch. Maybe we could grow this a bit depending on interest, but lets walk before we run.

As a simple expression of interest (not binding), if you would be interested in attending, please put a comment on this post to that effect and if there is enough interest, then I will see about promoting it a bit more to make an event of it.

It is obviously only a month away, hence I’m suggesting a lower key event, but could still be fun none the less!

For more info on the national event, look here.

I think this is a great idea! Count us in.
I’m sure people would come if it is promoted in the area.

  2. Gillian Says:

Lovely idea count us in :D

  3. Chris Says:

Nice idea, would definitely try to come-agree that it would need to be promoted.

Right, in that case, I will do what I can and keep this updated.
I will register it and see about telling people
Also everyone who reads this needs to contribute by telling their neighbours/friends to make it a fun event.
I will put some posters together too.

I’m thinking if it’s a nice day, to be next to the park as I have said, but we need a wet weather plan, so I will ask about either the Kingsway Community Centre or the School.

Off the bat, I would say be at the big park for 12:00 and bring a picnic for you and your family.

Saw you are holding a Big Lunch and thought you might be interested in a competition we’re running ahead of the day itself.

I am from Raindance, the organisation that promotes independent film and runs the Raindance Film Festival. We’re inviting people to make a film about the Big Lunch and offering two £1000 prizes for the best.

There’s still time to enter the competition if it’s of interest.
    Full details are here.

I think this is a great idea to build the ‘village community’.
Hopefully we’ll be there, got a questionable clash in the diary at the mo.
Will certainly spread the word whether we are there or not.

Well done Baz_k, good plan :D

  8. Baz_k Says:

Please can everyone who reads this print off this poster and put it in their window.

Put my details in, or just this website, or just to be at the big park at midday.

If you want to push the boat out, print 3 out and give the other two to your neighbours or friends.

  9. Raindance.TV Says:

Due to unprecedented demand to enter The Big Lunch Short Film Competition, some filmmakers have been requesting a bit more time to complete their films. We’re pleased to announce that we can extend the competition deadline until midnight Sunday 5 July.
    Competition details are here.

    Hi Baz,

Sorry about the delay in replying, (had to be sure we could make the date first)!
    Looks like we can :)

So we’ll be printing multiple posters and distributing them around the neighbourhood as well as displaying one in our kitchen window.

Thanks for joining us and keeping us informed of the situation :)

  11. Baz_k Says:

Hey folks, this is on next Sunday. Please pass the word on and get your picnic ready.

…and importantly, pass the word, print a poster, and just in case it rains, find a gazebo ;-)

  12. Raindance.TV Says:

    Hi,
I recently wrote to you about The Big Lunch Short Film Competition.
Entries have closed but check out our fab finalists here.
The one with the most views on YouTube wins 1k!

  13. Baz_k Says:

    Hey folks,

I hope to see many of you tomorrow for the big lunch!

Just bring a picnic and I look forward to seeing you there!

    Baz

  14. Baz_k Says:

    Folks,

Given the weather situation, I suggest we postpone the picnic until next Sunday.

Having been on the big field beside the park, it it sodden and not really fun at all :(

Apologies for the short notice, but please blame the elements

    Baz

  15. carpo18mav Says:

Shame the weather spoilt today’s lunch. We’re unable to make it next weekend  but will spread the word still. Enjoy :D

  16. carpo18mav Says:

So… Did the lunch happen, or did the weather spoil things again?
If it did happen, was it a success?

  17. Clive Says:

    Hi C18M,

Sadly I wasn’t able to go either (see here for why), so I have no idea :(
I suspect it didn’t (the weather wasn’t ideal) but I expect Baz_k will be able to tell us :)

  18. Baz_k Says:

    Hiya All
Yes, Clive is right, It didn’t happen again due to weather. :(

I still think it is a good idea though and would like to try again, but need to pick a sensible date, probably before the schools go back.

So will try and come up with a date in late August for this and see what happens.

    Baz
