Thatcham Avenue has allways been a problem, like most rounds on the estate. Whats going to happen when the bus starts coming down here and through to Tuffley! one comment I got form QVLC was let it hit a few cars and that should sort it! not to productive a comment I think. As this is a private estate still any crashes form bad parking could cause insurance problems.

From my point it seems only a matter of time before one of those speeding idiots ends up in my living room. This week end has seen several near misses with cars mounting the pavements to avoid each other. I have been asked to photograph the offenders but this will not help neigbour relations!
Most of the bad parking is now from Bryant homes downwards.QVLC did given in and let some parking on the bottom end and that seem OK most days but again its the odd person who thinks its fine to park on a roundabout, pavement and across the pavement! yes you know who you are!

I am sure putting the double yellow lines back that have come off and a few weeks of enforcement will sort it out.

Baz

"Moved on to where?
If they were not doing anything wrong except being in a group, then what’s the problem?"

The problem is having to walk between a group of swearing, spitting teenagers mouthing off and being generally intimidating is the problem!!

They're not even local children, and as for having an unmanned pod for 24 hours in the school site, what a joke!

DJE, Firstly, thank you for popping round the other night, and my apologies for being "baby bound" :-(

My comment about 2 cars was based around the generalisation that in this day and age most families have 2 cars. Personally we also only own one car. However I do cheat and have company Hire cars too!

In theory I have no gripe with how much parking I personally have, I have sufficient for my needs, until someone comes to visit, then I'm stuffed as is pretty much anyone else.

Also I am trying to use the issue as good ammunition to reason that getting my motorbike licence is a good idea :-) but we will see...

Anyway, while there are a lot of different opinions on blame/enforcement, Clive is right that generally we do agree on the principles, but rather than arguing amongst ourselves, there needs to be a decent strategy to not only cope with the current situation, but how it will develop as the Village grows and matures.

DJE,

(I am NOT trying to be argumentative or patronising)... It sounds as though you are making a real effort and for that you have my admiration... I'm glad that you are able to get by with one car... But still, you must be aware that you are the exception to the rule and - whilst it's probably true that a lot more folks could try harder (as you obviously do), it's also true that not everybody can get by with one car.

This comment has me mystified:

And Clive, the community is NOT dimished by law abiding people who only want a quiet, respected quality of life!!!! It is diminished by those who do not respect the rights of others by behaving anti socially.
Where did you get the idea that I think anything else?

And one thing I am slightly disappointed about: Prefacing an earlier question, I specifically asked "Before you all chime in with remarks like “you shouldn’t move here if you own two cars” etc…"...
I asked this because we have already had the (always emotive) discussion about the number of parking spaces per family elsewhere, and I did not want it re-opened here.
The purpose of my comment was to discuss the fact that injustices have been done and I wanted to address that issue without getting back to the "2 car family" matter.

The fact that you re-opened the discussion doesn't disappoint me as much as the fact that you assume you are taking an opposing view.

Also you end with "A very annoyed and unapologetic DJE"... read on for my thoughts on this:

Neighbours,

A quick glance at the posts in this thread seems to reveal an argument between us, but a closer look reveals that most of us are - in fact - in total agreement with each-other!

It looks to me like comments are being taken (slightly) out of context in order to allow us to "create" an argument from nowhere, and thus to vent our anger and frustration over a problem which is plaguing us all.

To get this (back) into context please read this (carefully), (it's a potted history, which you can check):

Clive Said: "Explain to me how cars parking in an area where the double-yellow lines were blacked out (by the QUVL) to allow parking, can now house cars clamped by the enforcement company?"

Gillian Said: "Sorry but I have no sympathy with people who have been clamped!"

Clive Said: "I too get (very) frustrated by irresponsible parking, but clamping people who park responsibly in areas where double yellow lines were removed to allow parking (because those areas are safe) is not fair and those people affected deserve sympathy."

Baz_k Said: "Oh and personally I like some parking on thatcham as it slows some of the idiots in the big cars and 4x4s who seem to insist on speeding down there."

G Note Said: "I agree with Gillian, if you get clamped, tough!"...
BUT... G Note (also) Said: "Although on a second note, the yellow lines have also worn out in places, so by law they shouldn’t really be clamping or fining people until this has been resolved."

DJE Said: "G Note, Gillian, I am in total agreement with you."...
BUT... DJE (also) Said: "While I do also agree with Baz that some parking in safe areas is OK, these need to be clearly marked out so everyone knows where the zones are which in turn removes any misinterpretation by either the vehicle owners and the clamping company."...

All of which takes us back to my initial comment on the subject!

So in fact, we are all in agreement on the 2 main points:
1. Irresponsible parking sucks and we are all fed-up with those who practice it.
2. Cars parked in (designated) safe parking areas should not be clamped.

My main concern is that double-yellow lines are not clearly visible and areas that are designated as "ok to park in" should (obviously) not be subjected to clamping; but they have been, thus they deserve - and have - my sympathy.

You don't need to offer yours, but actually saying "I have no sympathy..." (in every other post), and seemingly arguing - when in fact we aren't... well - as Baz said:

It is no wonder that we are a laughing stock of Gloucester with such "neighbourly" attitudes!

Parking!

I have to add to your post DJE.

I have got home from work everynight this week and previous weeks unable to park my car outside my house, and unable to get my car in the garage due to inconsiderate parking. This isnt by people who have invested everything they have in a nice house but by people who rent! Why rent a house with a garage and a parking space when you dont use the garage, you park a clapped out untaxed car in the space and then park your two cars you travel to work in outside my house????

As for commercial vehicles thats an interesting oned too!

I've said before on here were preaching to the converted.
