Garden Thefts On Thatcham Avenue
Created by TonyGHi Everyone,
I just wanted to make people aware that there are some people who are so low and downright cheap that they’ve taken to stealing ornamental rocks from people’s front gardens.
I returned home from a business trip to find my front garden devoid of all bar one of the rocks that had previously adorned it.
Now these thankfully weren’t expensive but what annoys me is the principle of it.
After speaking to neighbours I’m not the only one who has been affected.
I initially thought it may have been kids, but then these rocks were rather heavy and having walked around the area to see if they’ve been dumped somewhere, I’m inclined to believe it is the work of unsavoury sorts who can’t be bothered to go to somewhere like Blooms and buy their own.
The properties affected are the ones that face the main road of Thatcham avenue towards the lower end. If you’re one of these residents just keep an eye out.

Hi Tony G.
In answer to your your post (eg missing stones), sorry to hear about that.
We have a beautiful front garden with lawn and many different flowers.
Our problems lay with children pulling up the flowers and riding across the lawn on their bikes, sometimes accompanied with adults!
Do they think it’s fun to destroy something that enhances the Village?
I now have railings around the garden so that we and our visitors can enjoy a smart front garden.
I hope you catch the people that stole your stones but don’t try to talk to them, you will only get a load of foul language in return!

Hi Tony / Tog,
Sorry to hear about your loss… I know how frustrating that is.
I too am amazed by the number of parents who allow their children to wander over private gardens and flower-beds, right in front of their eyes!
I really dislike open-plan front gardens… ever since I lived in Quedgeley, where my house (and many others) have the same feature.
I don’t suppose you’ll ever find the culprit(s)

Thanks for the support guys.
No we won’t ever find the culprits I am sure, it’s just really annoying.
I have railings all around my small front garden and the gate is always closed. I just can’t believe the nerve of some people.
The other day I also caught a dog fouling on the pavement outside my house and when I commented to its owner all I got was a load of abuse…
Sometimes I wonder what happened to the dream of Kingsway Village as it was sold to so many of us when we first moved here.
I would never have moved here if I’d known it’d turn out like this.

Sorry to hear about this……
I’ve been reading the posts on this site since moving in to the esta…. village. There are clearly some residents that dont have the mentality or respect that the rest of us have or expect. As such, we will continue to be plagued by people stealing things from our front lawns, parents allowing their children to wander over private gardens and flower beds, and people allowing their dogs to foul the pavements without cleaning them up, giving us abuse if we say anything about it.
One thing that will work, at least in theory, is if we all continue to challenge these types of people when we’re out and about. I guarantee the more people that do this, the quicker these types of people will get the message and learn to respect the area and it’s residents. As I said, in theory this would work, but the good villagers of Kingsway, in a lot of cases, are scared to do this in fear of repercussions from the culprits, which I can totally understand.
