Garden Theft

Created by carpo18mav

Just to let people know that someone is stealing pots from gardens in Kingsway.

We had our two bay trees (in granite cube shaped pots) stolen last night (late evening of 10/6/09 – early hours of 11/6/09).
The thieves kindly shut our gate after their getaway, which amazed us!

The trees must have been put into a vehicle as they would be too heavy to carry down the road. The pots are heavy in themselves, but once the soil, trees and decorative stones are added, they weigh a tonne!

The pots and trees have great sentimental value to us, which is what upsets us more than the cash value of replacing them.

If anyone has noticed their neighbours have recently added two bay trees to their garden, please do the right thing by reporting it.

If the thieves are reading this blog, please, have a heart and put them back.

Not just you carpo, my neighbour had two pots stolen on the night of 11th, again these were very heavy pots, must have had a van/trailer to remove them!

  2. Baz_k Says:

This is rubbish and I hope you get them back.

Do you know if these incidents have been reported to The Police?

  3. nikkid Says:

I also had my 2 trees stolen last night!

This has made me very angry, to think that someone thinks they can come into my garden and help themselves.

  4. Clive Says:

    Hi nikkid,

Sorry to hear about that; it would make me angry too :(
I hope you reported the incident to the Police.
If not please do complete a Community Police Report form so that it won’t get forgotten.

    Oh no!! What rats!!!
As this seems to be a series of garden thefts, we may all see a result from police investigations??!! We’re not holding our breath though
We did report the incident to the police and have since received our leaflet detailing support for us as ‘victims of crime’!

  6. Hank Says:

Have these people also stolen the big stones from the entrance roundabout, or have they been just moved purposely? ;)

  7. Clive Says:

lol – I don’t know Hank, but Ang (my wife) asked me about it yesterday too…

I’ve left a message asking Andy Hunter what happened and will let you know when I hear from him.

I hope it’s temporary… I don’t want to have to change my website header picture

  8. Daisily Says:

Ha! I just came on here to ask about the roundabout!

It looks quite dire with nothing in there. I do hope it is just a temporary measure too as this is what people see when they come onto the estate and personally a gravel patch doesnt quite do it for me.

  9. Clive Says:

I spoke to Andy Hunter about this today.

The roundabout was decorated/maintained by the lanscaping company which was looking after Phase 1. That company recently lost the contract to the company who have been looking after Phases 2 & 3 (including the parks) so they were invited to remove their materials from the site and – evidently – they removed as much as they could

As it happens, Andy said that the Council were not fans of the palms, because they didn’t fit in with the character of the area and the orchard behind the roundabout; so – before the new caretakers fix it up – there will be some consultation with the Council (on the basis that it will eventually be their responsibility) and the likelihood is that it will be largely grassed over and some sort of planting will occur, but nobody has any idea what at the moment!

Personally I won’t miss the palms as I too thought that they were a lttle out of place, but I did like stones (or the "mini stonehenge" as my kids christened it)!

So I think I’ll leave the picture on the blog header… just for the memories :)

    Woodvale Roundabout

    Hi,

Has anyone notice that garden decoration on roundabout disappeared?

It’s so bland and boring now than it used to be.

I’m sure Kingsway village people want it put back to makes it looks more attractive and modern garden than bland.

Does anyone know why this happened? …or is it stolen?

    Regards,

    Stu

  11. Clive Says:

    Hi Stu,

I moved your post to here.

As you can see, it’s been discussed above :)

    Regards,
    Clive

If we leave it to the council we could have a long old wait.

Surely if there are still houses to purchase on the estate the builders would have an interest in making it a welcoming place? or not?

If when there is a consultation is there anything we can do to get a competition going with the primary school to design something. Or people off the estate? At least whatever ends up there will have a meaning to us rather than what could happen? Just a thought

  13. Clive Says:

It’s not being left to the Council, but there will likely be some consultation this time, to ensure that they approve of the new design.

I have no idea whether there’s going to be any choice so far as we’re concerned (because presumably, the contractors are paying for it themselves), but it’s a nice idea.

Perhaps you should contact Andy Hunter and ask/suggest it :)
See our Kingsway Developers page for his contact details.

    Roundabout Trees

Anyone know what’s happened to the trees on the entrance roundabout?
    It looks rather bare.

  15. Clive Says:

    Hi darreng,

    Yes I do
I moved your post t here (look up) :)

Also… Somebody else posted this question yesterday and I messed up when trying to move it, so it got deleted

    Whoever it was… sorry

  16. Claudia Says:

Now the problem is not only stealing items in the gardens but even breaking into garages and houses.
Last night my neighbour had some stuff stolen from her garage. The thieves must have got there from our garden or from the next door of my neighbour using a crowbar :(

The Police already know how rough Kingsway is getting and I feel disgusted because first the Police are not doing anything about it (a policeman on the phone with my neighbor even said to her to take fingerprints! Hello!!! Are we supposed to do their job?) and second I now do regret living here.

If Kingsway Developers say it is a nice area to live in they are just a bunch of liars! :x

  17. blastu2 Says:

Sadly, the area is gaining the attention of those who consider that the world owes them with whatever they feel they can take (regardless of it being someone else’s).

We have monitored white Transit Vans roaming around the streets late a night or early hours of the morning. We even know of a large battered white truck with it’s male driver who constantly roams in the early hours of the night, and another smaller white Transit Van with contractors wording in blue (I won’t refer to the name indicated publicly) which roams around these roads throughout day/night most days but is never seen doing any work!

I will keep an eye-out for any such items, and hope you can have them returned to you.
