Residents Association Update

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

I just thought I’d put a post up detailing what I know about the meeting on Friday.

The location is still assumed to be the Community Centre, but Cllr Bryan Claridge is still chasing it.
Any issues and/or venue changes will be posted as soon as they are known.

The actual meeting will be chaired by the Parish Council to ensure it is properly done and has oversight!

The agenda will (roughly) be:

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Overview of the Association and what is required of the meeting.
  • Job descriptions to be filled.
  • Election of officers.
  • Any other business.
  • Date of next meeting.

Apologies for things not being more definite. As soon we have any more information it will be passed on.

To say a bit more about the roles:

We will need to elect at least a Chair-Person and a Secretary.
The Chair will be responsible for running meetings and representing the organisation.
The Secretary will be responsible for ensuring that people know what they are supposed to be doing and for keeping minutes of the meetings.

These are very rough and will not be the only roles, but are the minimum of what we will need to allow a mandate to be developed and push the organisation on. I would like to see a Social Secretary too, and any other role which may be useful.

However, people do need to volunteer for these roles and be willing to do them, otherwise nothing will happen except wasting everybody’s time, so please think carefully about whether you can contribute!

Residents Association Meeting

Kingsway Village Residents Association

A brand new village offers a great opportunity for
us all to influence how the community develops.

A Residents Association could help by:

  • Liaising with Parish and City Councils on our behalf
  • Coordinating Village-based social events
  • Giving us a voice within the (larger) community
  • Coordinating groups like Neighbourhood Watch
  • Liaising with the Police and similar services

Thus…

  • Improving the quality of life for all Kingsway residents
  • Making Kingsway a more desirable place to live
  • Increasing the value of local property

A Meeting will be held at 7pm on Fri’ 27th June
(at the new Kingsway Comunity Centre)
… to launch the Association and
… to elect people for key positions (volunteers are welcome).

We’d love to see you there
(The more who turn up, the more representative the Association will be).

To get more information and/or join the discussions,
visit The Kingsway Blog(!) or call Barry on 722699

The above is pretty-much an exact copy of the leaflets distributed to most local houses a few weeks ago. Apologies if you didn’t receive a copy, we had almost 1,000 printed but found we still had a substantial area left to do when we ran out and are hoping to get more copies printed and delivered as soon as possible.

The venue for the meeting is subject to change because we are still awaiting confirmation that it will be available in time. An alternative is available, so we will confirm (and give directions) on here, nearer the time.

We are - as said - hoping that a good number of residents will attend to show support for the Association, to elect people for those key positions, and - indeed - to volunteer for those positions.

You can read more about the subject and see previous discussions in our Residents Association Category.

Brace Yourselves (The Residents Association Cometh).

Leaflets and Progress (RA)

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Just to let you all know progress, Clive and I have designed a basic leaflet and Bryan Claridge has very kindly taken on the printing of these things!

If things go as planned, I was hoping to have a walk around on the evening of the 28th May (Next Wed’) to hand them out to the village.

The only issue that has arisen is that if the Community Centre is open, it might not have furniture in it, so we may need to improvise!

The more people we can get to, the better it will be! Also getting flyers on notice boards etc would be good too!

Residents Association Plans

Friday, May 16th, 2008

On Thursday May 8th, Baz_k, sar.jas (Barry and Sarah) and I met with Anna Mozol, Jackie Hall, Bryan Claridge and Roger Langston at the Quedgeley Community Centre, where we had an interesting and fruitful meeting and were given much advice and help regarding the formation of a Residents Association for Kingsway Village.

We discussed ways to proceed and agreed that a priority issue was that of informing as many Kingsway residents as possible, in order to allow everybody an equal opportunity to be involved from the start.

We decided to create leaflets/flyers and to deliver them by hand, knocking on doors and explaining our intentions in person, in order to ensure - as far as possible - that all residents are aware of plans, are invited to attend our first meeting and are given the opportunity to volunteer their services if they wish. We were hoping to do this on 30th May but Baz is unable to make that date and has asked us to consider rearranging to earlier that week - say May 28th.

Baz_k and I will create a leaflet layout and Bryan very kindly volunteered to produce them (which will save me a lot of scissor-work… lol)!

We were excited to discover that plans for a Kingsway Community Centre have progressed and that it might well be available in time for our first “RA” meeting (provisionally planned for 27th June).

As a regular contributor to The Citizen, Anna offered to announce our plans there and Bryan mentioned that they could add the leaflets to the Parish Council notice boards (including Tesco’s).

We also discussed such issues as the “Youth Pod” (a 60 foot container created as a leisure/recreational facility for young people, currently residing in the community centre car park awaiting placement in Kingsway) and the next Quedgeley Funday, planned for June 21st (2pm-5pm at the Quedgeley Community Centre).

It was great to meet with the Parish Council representatives and Cllr Jackie Hall; thank you all for your time and advice :)

I am very much looking forward to meeting many Kingsway Residents during our leaflet-distribution exercise 8)

Kingsway Village Residents Association

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

In this comment Clare said “if there is to be a residents association I would be pleased to be involved”.

I made enquiries (as promised) and Trevor Cribb (Marketing Consultant for QUVL) said:
“On the matter of the residents association I am sure that if the Kingsway residents wished to form an association the consortium would be delighted to assist every way it could.
Do contact me - or get whoever might be at the helm of such an association to do - and we’ll try and all take it forward”

So - here’s a great opportunity for anybody interested in heading - or being part of - a Residents Association for Kingsway Village to volunteer, and for us to get the full cooperation and assistance of QUVL and the developers whilst we can :)

I am quite willing to take part and happy to use this site to publicise meeting dates, activities, decisions, meeting minutes, coordinate meetings and anything else which might be useful.
