Sand on Thatcham Ave

Saturday, February 19th, 2011 by KEVGEE

I’ve been wondering while I’ve been driving past the work that’s been happening on Thatcham Ave, where the path has been put in over last week.
I noticed over the weekend that the contractors, instead of getting the excess tarmac removed, they had spread it out and rolled into the dirt that was once grass.
And it’s not done in a way that it looks tidy but something that a cowboy builder would leave! And anyway I would have thought any right person would’ve known just how much Tarmac they would actually have to order and not over estimate like they have done, or have they ripped QUVL off?
So will this be put right once they have finished and the sand has gone or will that stay there for ever now as well?

BT – The Race To Infinity

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010 by MissC

Here’s the latest news about BT’s new, superfast fibre optic broadband, BT Infinity… It’s called The Race to Infinity – the chance to make our area the next to experience BT Infinity.

Fast broadband is being launched all over the UK. Harwicke – which is our local exchange – is in the running to have it very soon. So please cast your vote in the Race To Infinity NOW, and help Hardwicke be the winning area.

With enough votes, you could be looking at speeds of up to 40Mb – in other words, a totally transformed internet, where downloads, uploads, chat and play can all happen at once. Suddenly, all those things that used to take forever on the internet, don’t.

All you need to do is follow the link above, which asks you to enter in your postcode, and vote, vote, vote :)

Burglar Alarm at Old Farm

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010 by billc

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that a burglar alarm at the old farm building has being going off a great number of times over the last few months?

My house is not the nearest (by a long shot) but I do wonder if something about the geometry of the trees and buildings means that some of the nearer houses are shielded to some extent. From my place the noise level of the alarm is not extreme, but you can definitely hear it indoors, and it is loud enough to cause problems sleeping. Now obviously alarms do go off (false positive) from time to time but usually someone is on hand to reset them. If not, modern alarms are supposed to comply with a code of practive that limits how long they will sound for and they are not supposed to re-arm themselves. Nevertheless the Farm alarm seems to sound for 40 minutes or more, silence itself for 10 minutes, and then go off again.

I’ve made a formal noise complaint to the council which thus far has not really made much progress. Apparently the farm is now unoccupied and the developers are responsible for it. They are apparently concerned at the level of antisocial behaviour in the area, hence the need for the alarm. I have made the observation that since it is going off so often it serves no purpose; I’m sure if it was linked to a central station and a key holder was getting called out every 45 minutes they would get the picture; but if no one is responding to it then what’s the point in it going off? Anyway, it’s not being triggered by criminals, the frequency and times of the alarms are such that it is obviously false positives.

So, is anyone else hearing this? You’d need to be close to the side of the park or near the primary school I’d reckon, and does anyone else consider it a problem or am I just being a git?

Baby Sitter Wanted

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010 by daniellejj

Hello.

I am looking for a baby sitter for occasional Friday and Saturday nights, for my son of 3 years.

Would suit a six form or college student.

I would like someone over the age of 16 with experience. I would also like whoever maybe interested to meet and get to know my son first, as I wouldn’t leave him with someone he doesn’t know and I’m sure any one interested would like to meet myself and my son before taking on any babysitting.

Pay can be spoken about before hand and I am happy to pay over the standard rate for the correct person.

Please reply if interested.

Thank you.

Table Top Sale?

Sunday, August 15th, 2010 by mitzi1960

Many residents near Prestwick Rd / Marham Drive would like to hold a table top sale on the green area between them.

As this area is used mostly by dog walkers and a few children on their bikes, we wouldn’t disturb road users, but we would like to know who to contact and whether premmission could be gained?

I know many would say go to a car boot sale, but many residents do not drive. But it would be a great idea to recycle items that may benefit others, and between us we would clean up the area if we were allowed to hold one.
