Paving Slabs Wanted

Sunday, August 21st, 2011 by MS PC Repairs

Please has anyone got any spare paving slabs that they want to get rid of or sell?

The slabs we are looking for are the sandy coloured ones used all over Kingsway. They measure 60cm x 60cm.

We have looked in various garden centres but can’t find the same type to match our existing slabs.

We are hoping to extend our patio but don’t want mis-matched slabs.

Please if you can help post on here or please contact on

13 Year-old Girl

Sunday, August 14th, 2011 by gemjayuk

Hi,

My 13 year old step daughter just came to live with us, and amongst having to find a new house and a good school for her, she could do with meeting some girls her own age.
Anyone have children the same age? Or can suggest things she can do up this way to meet new friends.

I would be happy to hear from you by email

Severn FM – Our new local Radio Station

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011 by Barry Kirby

There is a new community radio station that has gone on air, or to be precise, on the web, and is directly focused at the South Gloucester area. It is called Severn FM and aims to serve the local area of Hardwicke, Quedgeley and Kingsway, as well as Epney, Longney, Elmore, Whaddon, Brookthorpe and Haresfield.

This is a community project and is ‘not for profit’ and whilst the primary aim is to entertain the local residents, it also strives to bring together many parts of the community.

The station started broadcasting last month, and is on air 24 bours a day, 7 days a week though the internet at www.severnfm.com and has a wide range of music from 50’s to today. However this is only the start and as the project develops, listeners will see the programming mature. There are ambitions to have local news and traffic reports, as well as items of local interest and whats on as well as beinga ble to pass on information in emergencies, such as we saw in the floods, snow, or when the A38 shuts and we are trapped.

In the background of the broadcast itself, the aim is to make this a community resource, working with local schools to encourage the pupils to get involved in programmes, production and all the other aspects of radio. But it isn’t just restricted to the kids, anyone in the community who would like to take part, be it on the technical side, perhaps a bit of presenting or trying your hand at producing a show is encouraged to get in touch and get involved.

Severn FM is a ‘not for profit’ venture, but it doesn’t come for free, so there will be applications for grants to enable it to develop. There are plans for a broadcasing studio as well as a production area, not to mention a “mobile” studio so there could be broadcasts from events such as the the Kingsway Big Lunch next year and Carol Concerts around Christmas. In future years it is hoped that it will be self sustaining through local advertising. Local companies are encouraged to think about placing an advert to be broadcast, the huge advantage being that you know it is going to local people, and the money is going to a worthwhile community project.

So go on, support your new local Radio Station, Severn FM, at www.severnfm.com

Kingsway Scout Group

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011 by glosddc

I am looking into the possibility of starting a new Scout Group to cater for the young people in the Kingsway area, but need to judge what demand there would be for such a group from the youngsters in the area (aged 6 to 14).

I would also need adults prepared to assist in the running of the group (free training provided).

Potential new Asda Supermarket in Kingsway!

Friday, July 29th, 2011 by Barry Kirby

Hi All,

I have just recieved some news from Robert Hitchins (part of QUVL) that they are looking to bring another supermarket to Kingway, and it is believed to be ASDA which would provide some competition for the Tesco Express and may be a good balance for price comparisions.

The land to the right hand side as you turn off the A38 into Kingsway has been marked for warehousing or offices, but there just isn’t the demand, so they are currently looking at the idea of providing a supermarket there. It is not huge (25,000 sq ft) but bigger than what will be in the local centre, and will provide around 230 jobs too.

If things go to plan, then they expect to have a public exhibition so we can look and give feedback etc before submitting a planning application and the facility could be in place by early next year.

I know there is not much information yet, but what do you think? Good idea or Bad idea? Does this throw up any concerns for you? Do you think its just what Kingsway needs?

Please comment below and I can feed them back.

Cheers
