Research Event

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 by richholmes

Just a reminder folks; I’m holding a research workshop on new communities at Kingsway’s temporary Community Centre on 7th Feb between 18.15 and 19.15.

It’s really informal, so just call in and we can have a chat about how to support new communities to flourish.

I’ll have a cameraman with me, so if you want to appear on film then drop me a line and we can arrange a separate meeting if you prefer.

Thanks in advance for your help!

New Communities

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 by richholmes

Hi All,

I’ve been doing some research on successful new communities – Kingsway Village has been a case study.

I’ve booked the (temporary) Kingsway Community Centre for a short workshop on Tuesday 7th February, 18:15-19:15 to share the findings and see if it matches with your experiences.

Some of you have been interviewed for the research, so I will e-mail the invite directly, but this is open to all residents; I would love it if some of you could come in and share your thoughts.

I have hired a film-maker to make a short documentary too, but don’t let that put you off!

Naturally, I’ll provide some cakes and refreshments!

See you there!

Research into New Communities

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 by richholmes

Hello Clive and Kingsway Villagers,

My name is Richard Holmes. I’m currently leading a research project into new communities and hoping to use Kingsway Village and Coopers Edge as case studies.
I am conducting the study in partnership with the Future Communities Consortium, a project of the Young Foundation.

I’ve already contacted Barry Kirby, who I understand is chair of the Residents Association and contacted local councillors. However, I’m also looking to interview someone who runs a popular community group to get their take on how Kingsway has evolved.

This study seeks to understand the common catalysts and challenges that have stimulated community engagement in these new housing developments. From this, it hopes to identify local and practical measures that can be taken to ensure new neighbourhoods become thriving communities. The research is based on findings from the Social Sustainability Framework, a document that reflects on the importance of planning for social elements of a new community in addition to considering environmental, economic and physical features.

Your involvement will consist of a face-to-face interview, and should you wish an invitation to the launch of the report.

Findings from this research will contribute to the national evidence base and be used to influence national and local policy makers, as well as informing residents of future new communities of best practice.

Thanks for reading this post. If you would like to be involved then you can e-mail me at richholmes@me.com and I will arrange a time to meet at your convenience.

Many thanks,
Richard
