Getting Involved

I’ve been ill for a week or so now (nothing serious, my daughter picked up a cold/flu bug at school and I caught it - lol) so I’ve not yet been able to get out and take the pictures as I was intending, nor have I been able to get out and publicise the site’s existence (so here I am posting and nobody’s reading - lol).

Thanks to Google we do have a few registered members already, which prompted me to post some information about how to get involved with this site.

First of all, if you’re interested in posting comments you need to register, (it’s free and painless and all email addresses will be kept 100% confidential). Shortly after you’ve done that you’ll receive a mail notifying you of your password and will then be able to log in, change your password, fill in your “profile” and post comments. Your comments won’t show up until I’ve approved them (stops spammers from adding unrelated rubbish or offensive posts) but I check very frequently so it won’t take long.

If you’re interested in becoming an editor (allowing you to add posts to the site) you need to contact me to discuss it.

In addition, I work in the web publishing business. So if you have some spare time and you have a hobby (whether or not it’s related to Kingsway) which you’d like to write about, or if you are a keen photographer and would like to start an online gallery, contact me and we can discuss the idea of my creating and hosting a website/blog/gallery for you (which could cost you as little as nothing and could earn you some money).

    hi,

Just to say Hi and looking forward to contributing.
Living just up the road in Thatcham Avenue and moved in about a month ago.

I think kingsway is going to be really good, but its the small niggles that are annoying at the moment! (Like placement of lampposts!)

    Anyway
    look forward to future posts

    Hi Baz,

    Thanks for joining us :)

Placement of lampposts eh? Tell me more.

Just thought i’d mention that i came across this site by complete accident! Is there any way of advertising it in the community booklets that come round? I’m sure there are people out there who would like to share their views with others on the estate. :D

    Hi Daisily,

I had plans to promote the site soon after we started. Sadly things were delayed as I was unwell for about 6-7 weeks :(

We have started to get the word out lately though.

We spoke to many people at the fair and have posted out a large number of leaflets with more to come in the near future.

We’ve had some great responses online with links and information from the nice people at the Kingsway Village website and the Police have also said that they will link to us from the Gloucester South community police website :)
Unfortunately the Quedgeley News weren’t able to help us at the moment.

I plan to contact some other local news and media sources but I only have so much time to devote to it as work has been keeping me very busy lately (which is why I’m posting this at almost 5:30am)!

We are easy to find on Google and have gained many viewers (and registered users) from there… For every contributor there are at least 40-50 who look regularly but don’t like to make posts (known as “lurkers” on the web although that’s a little harsh in my opinion - lol); so I think things are progressing quite well.

I’m totally open to suggestions, and am also hoping that people like you will help to spread the word ;)

    Hi all
I just thought I’d say HI so that I am not classed as one of those Lurkers!! Myself and my husband have just reserved a David Wilson Home in Woodvale and should be moving in by the end of February. A friend who lives in Chivenor Way told me about this site and it seems to be a very valuable source of information and also somewhere to vent about problems… (the post about parking in Woodvale worried me slightly!)
Looking forward to getting to know people in the area and getting involved in the community.
    Clare

  6. Clive Says:

    Hi Clare,

Good luck with your impending move (even thinking about moving makes me stressed - lol)!

Welcome to Kingsway Village and welcome to the site… You have officially de-lurked ;)
