Lock up your Sheds

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 by Barry Kirby

Hi Folks,

The Police have highlighted that there has been an increased number of thefts, both from houses and from the building sites. This has been highlighted in this post by chumly.

Please do ensure you secure your sheds to deprive the opportunity of theft, and also if you do see suspicious behaviour from people around your neighbour’s houses, do report it to the Police. I’m sure they would appreciate it if you save their bikes from being stolen.

Cheers,
Barry

QUVL Update

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 by Barry Kirby

Hi All,

Update from QUVL on the next few weeks

Please see the update below from QUVL on upcoming activities:

Earthworks: We are starting a large scale earthworks operation next week, which will involve a large number of dump truck movements across the remaining undeveloped areas of the site. There will be a temporary crossing of the recently opened Local Centre Link Road installed, and this will be traffic controlled by our contractor to ensure uninterrupted access to the Local Centre. These works are programme to be completed in 16 weeks time. These works will be followed by the sports pitches construction in early 2012 – football, bowling green, tennis courts.

Sports Park: In the area to the South of the completed Lioncourt and Taylor Wimpey homes, we are constructing the sports park required by our s.106 agreement. This includes tennis courts, NEAP play area and a MUGA and is expected to be completed in 12 weeks time.

Finishing Works To Carriageways: We will be completing the replacement of damaged kerbs etc and surfacing to Valley Gardens and Woodvale, starting in October. These works should be completed in a period of around 5 weeks.

I hope to get more detailed information in the near future and will keep you updated accordingly.

Cheers,
Barry

Research into New Communities

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011 by richholmes

Hello Clive and Kingsway Villagers,

My name is Richard Holmes. I’m currently leading a research project into new communities and hoping to use Kingsway Village and Coopers Edge as case studies.
I am conducting the study in partnership with the Future Communities Consortium, a project of the Young Foundation.

I’ve already contacted Barry Kirby, who I understand is chair of the Residents Association and contacted local councillors. However, I’m also looking to interview someone who runs a popular community group to get their take on how Kingsway has evolved.

This study seeks to understand the common catalysts and challenges that have stimulated community engagement in these new housing developments. From this, it hopes to identify local and practical measures that can be taken to ensure new neighbourhoods become thriving communities. The research is based on findings from the Social Sustainability Framework, a document that reflects on the importance of planning for social elements of a new community in addition to considering environmental, economic and physical features.

Your involvement will consist of a face-to-face interview, and should you wish an invitation to the launch of the report.

Findings from this research will contribute to the national evidence base and be used to influence national and local policy makers, as well as informing residents of future new communities of best practice.

Thanks for reading this post. If you would like to be involved then you can e-mail me at richholmes@me.com and I will arrange a time to meet at your convenience.

Many thanks,
Richard

The New Car Crime

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 by MS PC Repairs

Recently the local police and the Neighbourhood Watch in our area have been reporting – believe it or not: Thefts of catalytic converters from parked cars and vans!

It comes as no surprise that this has happened what with the price of precious metal nowadays. Many people don’t realise that a catalytic converter uses platinum rhodium and palladium inside the unit to filter the gases the car produces. All of these are precious metals and worth quite a bit in the scrap metal market.

Now I am not a mechanic but I do work in the electronics industry and know that gold is used on circuit boards because of its good conductive properties. I recently found out that one ton of gold ore on average will produce one gram of gold. Where one ton of mobile phones will produce five grams of gold. So it is easy to see why so many companies are offering just pence for your old mobile. They know which ones contain the most gold so it is not based on the value of the phone but the value of the gold it contains.

The recent thefts of catalytic converters have hit the local news and will surely give the criminals in Gloucester ideas. I would like this posted here on the Kingsway Villager’s site for all to see so we can be on our guard. Cars in Kingsway have recently been hit by vandalism (please see broken mirrors post by aleksuu), and some have been broken into with things being stolen, but it seems now things are being stolen from underneath our cars too. I would also like to add that the recent theft from a car in Marham Drive where a handbag was taken. If the person responsible reads this please note you may have been caught dumping the handbag on CCTV when it was discovered nothing of value was inside; you made the mistake of dumping it in full view of our cameras.

Thieves operating in Kingsway are being watched and will be caught I’m sure.

For residents living in Marham Drive, you can contact our neighbourhood watch representative Debbie Lailey at e-mail: marhamdrive@hotmail.co.uk  to report or find out about law breakers in our area. I am sure Debbie won’t mind me placing these details on here.

MS PC Repairs would like to also state that law breakers will not be tolerated and will be reported to the Police and any suspicious behaviour caught on our cameras will be forwarded to the appropriate organisations. We are sure all residents living in Kingsway will feel the same and we should all be vigilant and keep an eye out for each other making Kingsway a no crime place to live.

Private Road

Friday, September 16th, 2011 by suzybear

We live in Kingsway on a so-called “Private Road”, but it appears it is a walk-way for anyone who decides to use it!
This is mainly kids on scooters and bikes that do not live in the road.

It is part of our deeds that we – as residents – are responsible for the upkeep of this road.
How can we possibly maintain the state of this road if anybody who chooses can use it?

My question is this: if we are responsible can we put up signs stating: “Private Road”?
