Council Waste Truck Mess

Friday, July 29th, 2011 by robin72

This morning I was sat in the lounge and saw a Council waste truck pull up and empty my bins. I noticed some people were watching it in disbelief, so I looked out to find they had spilled a lot of rubbish on the road, and they drove away instead of cleaning up the mess!

The truck does have a brush and pan, so what is wrong with them?
I am very concerned it may damage car tyres, or children might pick up dirty old razors etc.

I contacted them to complain and they said they would action it straight away, ‘though so far nothing has happened. Luckily I already took a photograph to take it further. I personally think we should sack them and get someone else to do it because we pay taxes.

Potential new Asda Supermarket in Kingsway!

Friday, July 29th, 2011 by Barry Kirby

Hi All,

I have just recieved some news from Robert Hitchins (part of QUVL) that they are looking to bring another supermarket to Kingway, and it is believed to be ASDA which would provide some competition for the Tesco Express and may be a good balance for price comparisions.

The land to the right hand side as you turn off the A38 into Kingsway has been marked for warehousing or offices, but there just isn’t the demand, so they are currently looking at the idea of providing a supermarket there. It is not huge (25,000 sq ft) but bigger than what will be in the local centre, and will provide around 230 jobs too.

If things go to plan, then they expect to have a public exhibition so we can look and give feedback etc before submitting a planning application and the facility could be in place by early next year.

I know there is not much information yet, but what do you think? Good idea or Bad idea? Does this throw up any concerns for you? Do you think its just what Kingsway needs?

Please comment below and I can feed them back.

Cheers

Let us tax our vehicles at Quedgeley Post Office

Monday, July 25th, 2011 by fred wood

Do you want to be able to tax your vehicles at the new Quedgeley Post Office? I do. The problem is that Post Office Ltd has the say on this service and does not appear to have any plans to give this business to Quedgeley PO because vehicles can be licenced in Hardwick and Tuffley.

The Quedgeley Post Office is right in the heart of our busy shopping complex adjoining Tesco Extra – a supermarket used by thousands daily across the whole area. It makes sense to me that a conveniently located facility as we have with the new post office should be able to offer a complete range of counter services. That is what people tell me they want and I agree.

If you feel the same way, please sign our online petition and I will make your views known to Post Office Ltd.

Devaluing Houses

Monday, July 25th, 2011 by Tolly123

Hello all,

This is the first time I have posted on this website. After reading some posts I can now understand why Kingsway has such a bad reputation. This website, although I am sure is beneficial and therapeutic in some cases is only serving to fuel the fire that Kingsway is a horrendous place to live.

I must admit I do not like living in Kingsway and have attempted to move 3 times since moving in, in 2008. Approximately 6 months after I had moved in I had my house valued and it was valued at approximately £3000 more than I paid for it, but I was unable to move at that time so had to delay plans. I had my house valued the other day and it was valued £10,000 less than I paid for it in 2008. This is in part due to the current housing market but the negative publicity and stereotypical hype this website creates which then gets published by newspapers and gossiped about by people (who both live and do not live here) has only helped houses fall into negative equity. After all it was through gossip about how bad Kingsway was by someone who doesn’t live here who told me about this website.

New houses are being sold above market value with amazing deals attached to them to lure buyers in (even lying about where social housing has been built to not put certain people off), however these houses are being sold way above what people on the open market are willing to pay for them once home owners come to sell their once brand new homes on. This is the reason mortgage lenders require a 20% deposit when someone is buying a new home, as 9 times out of 10 they are sold above market value and are often sold on for less than people originally paid for them.

Furthermore, it appears that part of the reason people are not willing to pay more than $140,000 for a three bed semi-detached house with a garage and a large garden is because Kingsway is seen as an awful place to live, with crime being committed every 5 seconds, bored teenagers vandalising property like it is going out of fashion and HA tenants causing ASB to all us private buying folk (may I add at this point I do not support or perpetuate any such opinion, as I do wish to engage in discriminatory babble).

Estate Agents that came to value my house were of the opinion that the majority of houses in Kingsway will never reach a second time around, what was paid for them in the first instance and this is just something I have to accept (meaning realistically I cannot move for 3-4 years whilst I overpay on my mortage and save a 20% deposit).

A culture of moaning and negative discourse are extremely easy to create and it appears this website, in the most part, has achieved such. But surely is it not better to use this website as a positive vehicle for Kingsway and not make a bad situation any worse? Encourage people to make changes rather than telling them they are wrong, stop discriminating and emphasising an unnecessary divide encouraging a them and us culture and just remain positive and inclusive with the view of bringing about an positive change and not further tarring the area with a wholly derogatory reputation.

Many Thanks,
Tolly

Cleaner Wanted – Woodvale

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011 by Clare

I am looking for a cleaner for around 4 hours per week in Woodvale. Rate of pay will be £6.50 per hour and the hours can be worked at times to suit you (within reason)!
I will need bathroom cleaning, kitchen cleaning including hob/oven from time to time, dusting, hoovering and interior window cleaning. Perhaps a very small amount of ironing. There is only one occupant in the house and I’m clean so it’s not an onerous job. I am just too busy to do it myself and hate a dirty house!
If you’re interested please send me an email to clare@brutonyoung.co.uk to tell me where you are based, the hours that you can do and a little about yourself including any relevant previous experience if applicable.
Many thanks
Clare
