New Coffee Shop

Monday, April 25th, 2011 by leydyer

I am planning to open a coffee shop in your local centre and would welcome your feedback.

We will be a family run, independent coffee lounge providing excellent, freshly made coffee and other hot drinks, locally sourced fruit juices, smoothies, homemade cakes, pastries and sandwiches/rolls/paninis prepared daily on the premises.

I have identified and made contact with local suppliers who will provide me with speciality breads and rolls; cakes, fruit juices, crisps, ice cream and cold meats.

Our ethos is to provide a home from home where friends and families like to meet and where local businesses can confidently bring their associates/customers to enjoy top quality products and first rate service within a clean, friendly and comfortable environment.

I would like to know if this is what you would like to see in your village.  Would you like to grab a takeaway coffee and sandwich before you set off for work?  Pop in for a coffee and a slice of cake with friends?  If you run a business from home, would you like somewhere you could bring clients for lunch?

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Doggy Do Do’s… & Don’ts!

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011 by Clive

Since this website was launched, there have been several discussions about local dogs and dog owners, including: Big Park – Dog Mess, Dog Poo, Dog Fouling
‘Dangerous Dogs’ Unleashed on Kingsway and Kingsway Canine Concerns.

Fred Wood recently posted a link to the City Council’s latest Citylife publication, which included this – very interesting article – on Page 3:

Dog Owners – Follow This Lead.
There are lots of places in and around the city where dog owners can exercise their pets and let them run freely off their leads.
But there are certain areas where the need to be able to do this without ‘undue restriction’ has to be balanced with the requirements to have dog-free ‘zones’ – children’s play areas are one example.
Here’s our handy guide for dog owners about the dos and dont’s of keeping pets on leads:
Dogs on lead
A dog should be kept on a short lead – not more than six foot – when it is being walked along a roadside pavement and any grass verge attached to that pavement.
An owner out with their dog who is asked to put it on a lead by a council officer or a Police Community Support Officer must do so at once.
Dog Exclusion
Dogs should not be allowed to enter any fenced or enclosed children’s play area within any of the city’s parks or green spaces. If it does it must be removed immediately.
Dog Fouling
Dog owners should always pick up after their animals and this applies to all areas of the city that are open to the air and that the public have access to or are entitled to have access to.
Failure to comply with any of these can result in a fixed penalty notice of £75.
Failure to pay will result in a prosecution with a maximum fine of £1,000.
Dangerous Dogs
To own any of the following dogs you must have a certificate of exemption.

  • Pit Bull Terrier or pit bull terrier types
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Braziliero

Owners of these breeds must be registered at their local police station and have their dogs:

  • Micro-chipped
  • Tattooed on the inner thigh
  • Neutered
  • Covered by third party insurance
  • They must be muzzled and on a lead at all times in a public place.

The penalty for failing to comply with the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act is up to six months in prison and/or a fine of up to £2,000.
In certain circumstances the courts can order the dog to be destroyed.
Lloyd Griffiths, the city council’s environmental protection service manager, commented:
"The vast majority of dog owners are keen to act responsibly. They keep their dogs on leads when they should and clear up any mess they make when it happens.
As is always the case it is the minority that can cause problems and we want them to know that we can and have been taking action against people who act irresponsibly."

There’s also mention of a Gloucester dog owner being fined £350 (plus £150 Costs) for a dog fouling offence! 8O

Kingsway Pub’

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011 by George

I probably am in minority here, but I dont see the sense of Kingsway having it’s own pub’.
We have enough anti social problems here already, surely a pub’ will give us more problems?
There are pub’s closed/closing down in Gloucester already due to lack of profits.
I would prefer more local shops, not a pub’.

Also why do we have to have yet another Tesco, which is so close to their Quedgeley store? I would much rather have a Sainsburys or a Co-op, it would give Tesco some much needed competition in the area.

Buses

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to Kingsway this Saturday & was wondering if anyone knows if there are any cut-throughs to Tuffley?

I work in Barnwood & I don’t drive so I would need to get the number 10 bus.

As I don’t know the area very well, the only thing I can think of is getting the 14 into Gloucester and then getting the 10 from there to Barnwood.

If anyone knows any shortcuts I’d be very grateful.

Thanks :)

Rubbish Collection – Paying For Bulk Items

Thursday, April 7th, 2011 by mitzi1960

I have notice over the last two weeks there seems to be a lot of local fly tipping, and walkways are filled with household (bulk) rubbish.

My lawnmower broke down this weekend, and I ‘phoned GCC to arrange collections, receiving a message saying that this service is now being charged for, and have your credit/debit card handy!
I was surprised as I have had no notice to say this service is now being charged for.

Many people have no car to go to the tip to dispose of bulky items.
It seems to be encouraging fly tipping.
So Much for this Village being Green.
