Mens Walk – Gloucester

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011 by Barry Kirby

Hi All,

I am taking part in the Mens Walk, a 10k walk around Gloucester, ending at Kingsholm Stadium in 19 days time, on Sunday March 13th 2011.

It is aimed at raising money for Cotswold Care Hospice; more info’ about the walk can be found here.

I would like to ask that you consider sponsoring me (I don’t think it will be a walk in the park)!

You can sponsor me through my page on Just-Giving, which you can find by clicking this link.

Thank you in advance for any support you can give.

A38 Underpass

Saturday, February 19th, 2011 by Barry Kirby

In a meeting today it has been confirmed that the Bollard in the underpass will be decommissioned in the near future. This is due to the fact that it keeps getting vandalised and most importantly the impact to emergency services access when the bollard breaks in the “up” position.

However that does not remove the problem that the road itself and the Tesco roundabout does not have the capacity to cope with a large volume of traffic from Kingsway, and that, if open, it would turn into a rat run.

To counter this, the Highways Agency is installing a traffic camera, similar to the one on Llanthony Bridge. This will mean that anyone passing under the bridge WILL get fined for doing so.

This should be active by the second week in April. There will be explicit sign-age to ensure everyone is aware (learning the lessons from the Llanthony Bridge issues) and

I have asked for as much communication as possible about this to make sure everyone is aware and don’t get caught out by thinking they won’t be caught. I have also asked for some officers to be present during the first few days of operation to flag down and deter people from driving through. I am keen to ensure that this is not a “cash cow” for the city council but is there for the right reasons.

Please tell your neighbours and friends and I will do my best to keep you updated as to progress.

Cheers

Editors Note: "£60 fines will be issued to drivers caught on camera using the underpass from Saturday, 23 April"

Lyneham Drive Signpost

Saturday, February 19th, 2011 by Charlongo

What is going on with the Lyneham Drive (hope I’ve spelled it correctly) signpost?
It was propped up behind a lamp post on Valley Gardens for ages. Now every morning I walk past it and it is either lying in the middle of the pavement or in various places.

This morning it was right up near the play area past the new Children’s Centre.

I don’t even know where Lyneham Drive is or why it was removed in the first place but it really should be put back where it belongs.

Sand on Thatcham Ave

Saturday, February 19th, 2011 by KEVGEE

I’ve been wondering while I’ve been driving past the work that’s been happening on Thatcham Ave, where the path has been put in over last week.
I noticed over the weekend that the contractors, instead of getting the excess tarmac removed, they had spread it out and rolled into the dirt that was once grass.
And it’s not done in a way that it looks tidy but something that a cowboy builder would leave! And anyway I would have thought any right person would’ve known just how much Tarmac they would actually have to order and not over estimate like they have done, or have they ripped QUVL off?
So will this be put right once they have finished and the sand has gone or will that stay there for ever now as well?

FP2/3 Playing Field

Saturday, February 19th, 2011 by Sam T

Does anyone know how I can make a suggestion for the above?
Currently on the map it states:
2 Tennis Courts
1 Junior Football Pitch
2 Senior Football Pitches
1 Cricket Pitch
1 Bowling Green
Pavllion with car park.

It seems to me the only people who currently use this field are dog walkers.

We already have a football pitch by Naas Lane.

Could I suggest a dog’s agility or flyball?
We seem to have a lot of dogs in Kingsway and I believe this would be well used.

New Community Services at Kingsway

Friday, February 11th, 2011 by pss.badham

I would like to update the local residents of what is going on at the Local Centre in Kingsway.

Badham Pharmacy is opening a pharmacy here near the School on the 1st March, this will be in a portacabin for a few months.

We will move to one of the new shops that are being built there in June/July.

Five units are being built of which Tesco will have one; this will be a Tesco Express.

Badham Pharmacy are looking for tenants for the other units, and we are in discussions with a dentist, doctor, optican and take-away.

I will keep you informed of how we get on as I am sure you are all very keen to see local services looking after the growing population in Kingsway.

Badham Pharmacy are based in Cheltenham and have branches in Churchdown and Gloucester, we are a family company which has been providing services for over 70 years.

We are very excited about the new venture, we like to work with the community in which we have pharmacies. We see us coming to the local centre as the first step in getting this off the ground.

Please visit the Badham Pharmacy website for more information about us, including a map and directions to our new Kingsway Pharmacy.

Please give me a call if you want to know anything else:
