Dental Services

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 by Baz_k

It would seem that our medical facilities are (slowly) progressing:

A NEW NHS dental surgery could open in Kingsway within the next 12 months.
NHS Gloucestershire has confirmed a new health centre for the area will include dental provision much to the relief of residents in the area.

Local Elections

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 by Baz_k

Given that the Local Council are up for election soon, I thought a discussion on here would be useful to inform peoples opinions and share any knowledge we have that would be useful.

Also to encourage people to actually vote, as I can’t help thinking that this election is important, not only for us, but to send our message to Westminster!

On this page are the nominees for our area.

It seems we can elect 2 out of 8.
At the last one, both Conservative and Labour were elected.
I can honestly say I have only seen one of those and know who she is and has taken an interest in my issues.

But what do other people think?

Local Youth In Near-Fatal Accident

Friday, May 15th, 2009 by Clive

A local lad had a near-fatal accident recently, when he fell some 20 feet from a tree.

The boy (aged 8 or 9) was climbing an Ash tree in Thatcham Avenue when a bough broke, sending him tumbling some 20 feet to the ground!

His father had just pulled up in his car when he saw the fall, rushed over to find the lad was unconscious, had a horribly broken/twisted wrist and was not breathing at all! He quickly administered CPR and – after a few seconds (which probably seemed like hours) – he managed to revive him.

An ambulance was called and the paramedics had to manipulate the lad’s wrist before the journey to Gloucester Royal Hospital, where he was in pretty poor condition for some 36 hours.

The incident happened on April 23rd, (2 days before my wedding… hence the long delay in writing about it). The parents are close friends and neighbours of ours and the whole incident was horribly scary, sickening and traumatic for all of us.

Many of the trees in Kingsway are protected by conservation laws (unauthorised removal / alteration can carry huge penalties) and whilst they are quite beautiful, it’s worth reminding children of the dangers of climbing them (particularly varieties like Ash trees, which have a tendency to be quite brittle).

Happily the young lad looks set to make a full recovery (much to the relief of his poor, traumatised parents and friends).

Local Burglaries

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009 by MissC

Hi,

I would like to mention that there has been a spate of burglaries on our street in the last 3 weeks.

One was a break in to a car – stereo stolen, and more recently a bike from a garage (however it was recovered) and another car was broken into with some valuables stolen.

To protect ourselves further I would suggest locking your cars, locking your garages, keeping valuables either out of the car (ideally) or by hiding them. Items of value in your garden hidden or in a lockable shed.

We all need to protect ourselves and I am not going to mention the gap between the most recent burglaries… it was very short put it that way!
It doesn’t take long for someone to test your locks open up your car / house / garage then take what they want!

Let’s beat them, not help them!
