Kingsway and QUVL

Thursday, November 20th, 2008 by Barry Kirby

Folks

Firstly, my apologies for a seeming lack of contact on my behalf. We have been progressing all the issues that have been raised with us and these have taken more time than anticipated.

It is my unfortunate task to report that QUVL has broken their relationship with ourselves and essentially the Kingsway Community. They are removing the ability to report issues through their website and will not be entertaining issues raised by residents. This is a reaction to the downturn of the economic market and is their answer to saving money. I am working with the communcations manager to see if we can salvage some form of relationship with the builders who are still building directly.

This has a direct impact on the work of the Association as they had promised things like actioning issues that we brought forward (a large number of which we have achieved) and also to print a newsletter and contribute to events. To this end we now have no current real route to affecting change, and also no funding for events. Whilst it is not the end, it does pose a large barrier to our immediate plans.

I believe that this will change in the future when the market turns again, and I am hopeful for a relationship with the more productive companies. However, for the moment, we need to be realistic about what to expect in the short term future.

Im sorry for not having more upbeat news, but I wanted to ensure I passed on this news to ensure everyone was kept in the picture

Bus Service for Thatcham Avenue

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by teddybear.

Do anyone know when Thatcham Ave and beyond is going to get a bus service?

In this very wet weather it is no wonder people are bringing Tesco trolleys on to the site!
With no shops here and not having a car, weekly shopping for a family is very heavy. I feel very sorry when I see mums with small children in the pouring rain; surely they could run a bus down Thatcham and round past the School, back out through Valley Gardens to the traffic lights!

I know the roads has not been finished but does that really matter? Surely we will not have to wait 1-2-3 years until the recession recovery?

And – as for finishing roads – they can find funds to do side roads ie Marham Drive!

Blue BMW Coupe… Idiot

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by Ashley

I was out on Thatcham Avenue a couple of nights ago when I witnessed a Blue BMW coupe being ‘doughnutted’ around the Thatcham Avenue / Woodvale roundabout and then racing up Thatcham Avenue and swerving to avoid cars!

I have spoken to some friends about this and have learned that this is an almost nightly occurence for this idiot driver who is a resident of Thatcham Avenue.

If anyone on this site knows him maybe you could have a word in his ear before he:
1. Damages property – or – 2. Kills a pedestrian or himself.

Kingsway is not a race track, nor do we want it to be.

It makes me wonder if anyone has experienced anything else like this?

Kingsway School Website

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by Cllr Julian Powell

The School has launched it’s own website at www.kingsway.gloucs.sch.uk

Having said that, the web site is already out of date and we are having trouble updating it as BT can’t – for some complicated reason – provide us with a broadband line at the moment.

Still, check back when you can, the site name is permanent and the content will change from time to time.

Simon Says

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 by Clive

Earlier today I had a call from Simon Williams, the producer of The Breakfast Show at BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Simon says that he and his team are planning a series of broadcasts about Kingsway Village.

They are going to follow the progress of the Nativity Play at the Kingsway Primary School – from Thursday this week, until it’s culmination during the week commencing December 15th.

During that week they also plan to interview Kingsway residents and perhaps feature a live broadcast from The Village.

He invites local residents to email him – Simon Williams

He would like to hear from Kingsway Villagers about being in on the ground floor of a brand new community, living in Kingsway Village, the development of the community so far etc… or – if you have problems, concerns etc – Simon says "get it off your chest"!

Calling All Residents

Sunday, November 9th, 2008 by Barry Kirby

Folks,

It has become apparent that the original plan of the Residents Association is not working as quickly as most would like.

The original plan (as determined at the original open meeting) was to use the period to Dec/Jan to get the Association running. Unfiortunately, due to the workload involved, the situation with the QUVL and the expectations of the community, this may not be the best approach.
To get things moving faster, we need more bod’s (also – as Clive’s other post highlighted – the 4 existing Committee members have a high workload with home/work).

So to make it work, I need the following:

Help with organising the event in December:
An Events Coordinator.
Someone to organise food.
Someone to organise entertainment.
Someone to organise posters and advertising.
Someone to help the Treasurer with the finance.

We will add more as we think of it.

If you know anyone who would be able to provide anything cheap (food, entertainment etc), that would also be good.

If you want to help, please email kingswayra@googlemail.com

The event will be held at the School so we have a great base to work from.

Cheers,
Barry
