My red Merle Border Collie escaped from my garden at approx 8:30am on Monday 25-08-08. Still no sign of him by 7-00pm that night.

I would appreciate any news or sightings of him that day.

Kingsway Literature Society – First Meeting

Thursday, August 21st, 2008 by Clare

Ladies and Gentlemen… The first meeting of the Kingsway Literature Society (aka "The Book Club") will take place on Friday 5th September at 127 Woodvale at 7.30pm.

For more information mail clare.bruton-young@sky.com or call on 01452 725458 – or just turn up!

We are not high fliers or intellectuals, we are just normal people who like to read.
Come along and have a glass of wine (or OJ if you’re pregnant like me), while we talk about how to get a local book club off the ground.

Don’t be nervous, we honestly won’t bite, unless you annoy us!

Very best wishes
Clare, Lis and Emma, the founder members.

Community Police Neighbourhood Panel

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 by Clive

As mentioned in this post I have become the local (Kingsway) representative on the Community Police Neighbourhood Panel.

The panel has been set up in accordance with a recent Government initiative to enhance neighbourhood policing by allowing the Safer Community Teams to engage with communities, through meetings and contact points; giving the team an insight into the local community’s crime and disorder concerns.

The panel is made up of local people who will identify (through engagement with the community, and analysis of those concerns) and help to establish priorities for policing in the Safer Community Team’s area.

Our first meeting was held on 13th August and all comunity members agreed that priorities should include speeding, dogs and issues with mopeds (and go-karts).

What to do about local crime and disorder issues:

To assist me to bring local issues to the attention of the Safer Community Team, please report on on local problems and issues using this form.
To report issues and problems with dogs in the community, please email: Helen.Devlin@gloucestershire.police.uk

More information is available at the Gloucestershire Constabulary – Quedgeley Community Page.

Three Communities Fayre

Thursday, August 14th, 2008 by Clive

In my post about the 2008 Summer Programme from Equals Youth Centre, I included a mention of a “Police Fun Day” at Waterwells, on Saturday August 30th…
In fact the event – sponsored by Prospect Training Services – is shaping up to be a:

Fabulous free day out for all the family:

Three Communities Fayre – Quedgeley, Hardwicke & Kingsway.

Saturday 30th August 10am-4pm – Waterwells Sports Centre (Football Pitch)
(Drive through Waterwells, past the Police HQ, left at the next roundabout – towards Naas Lane / Harescombe – and you’ll see the pitch on the left just before you leave the trading estate).

Arena Events:

  • Circus Skills
  • Bouncy Castle
  • Pony Rides
  • Vintage Police Cars
  • Cycle and Property Marking
  • Football Tournament
  • Police Helicopter (weather and operations permitting)

…and much more.

And – if you’re interested in volunteering for the Police you can meet the recruitment team who will be located on the SCT stand.

Community Police Priorities

Quedgeley and Hardwicke Community Police – Neighbourhood Panel

I had a call this week from the Community Police at Quedgeley, inviting me to join a “neighbourhood panel”.

The idea is to get input from local residents, via a small team of representatives who “have a desire to be active within their respective communities, working together with other members to address concerns identified by the local community”, and the plan is to create such a team “to gain an insight into the local community’s crime and disorder concerns”, meeting regularly – every 3 months – to prioritise those concerns for the local Safer Community Team to work on.

Since it fits in rather well with my activities for the Residents Association, I have agreed to attend, but – on a personal level – I have no particular issues and I don’t live in one of the areas which have experienced serious problems up to now, so – whilst I am aware that issues exist around the underpass – I don’t know how things are faring at the park(s) nowadays, nor if there are particular problems elsewhere in the Kingsway Village area, so I would very much like to hear from anybody who has an opinion / problem / issue / POV, about our local community policing and it’s future, including:
Any recurring issues.
Anything which needs attention (urgent or otherwise).
Anything else we / you would like to know / add.

Stranger at the Door.

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 by mortgageadvisor1

Last night I got a bit of a suprise…

My husband was upstairs getting ready for work when the doorbell went; this was at 9.30pm ‘ish.

I opened the door to a young handsome looking lad (aged 12/13, dark skinned, diamond stud).

He said “how dare you come knocking on my door at this time of night” to which I replied “sorry I really dont know what you’re on about”!

He said “it is rude and its nearly ten o’clock at night and you come knocking on my door my wife and children are asleep upstairs… it’s rude man, rude”…

I replied “strange child” and he then proceeded to walk off!

I went upstairs to see if he was with his mates and it was a wind up… nobody about.

Thinking back there was no expression on his face, no reaction to anything I said. Perhaps he was sleep walking? Not sure!

Was wondering if anyone has had the pleasure? Or - if this sounds like your son - maybe he should get checked out!

Don’t want to hear of anyone getting hurt xxx
